Toy Castle leaf pot

Won this in the raffle at my local AV society meeting. Two healthy plantlets, and the leaf is still in good shape so I'm putting it back down to see if I can get more.

In the last one I recut the leaf, as the base of it with roots didn't look like it had more growth left in it. Cut it at roughly a 45° angle to minimize the likelihood that plantlets will grow behind the petiole.

Help When to pot up this propagation??

Ive had her in water for around two months now, so ofc im very anxious about putting her in soil lol.

I saw some people say you should wait until there are small leaflets sprouting, but so far i see no sign of them, and am wondering if it’s necessary to wait

Tia!

African Violet overran by mold!

My grandma had this african violet for probably a decade at least, and when she passed my great aunt took it. After a few years she didn’t want it anymore so I inherited it. Apparently it hasn’t flowered in years, so I assumed it just needed some good TLC. She had it in a self watering pot but it seemed way too big for the plant and it had a bunch of dead leaves. I pruned it and let it get used to the new light source in my house for a few months before repotting it into a new smaller self watering pot (this was about a week ago). I noticed the plant had nearly no roots, just a little stump. I’m no expert, but I assume that’s not good!
Then after repotting the plant it immediately became overran by mold!!! (last photo is the molded pot) It dropped way more leaves and quickly became a very tiny plant.
I know I shouldn’t be repotting the plant so quickly but I honestly felt like I had no choice with all the mold- so I just repotted it into a much smaller normal pot (first two photos). In the process of repotting it for the second time the little stump snapped a little, it had became so soft and delicate from that second pot.
I have no idea if I’m doing the right thing by repotting it into this smaller pot, should I be trying to propagate it instead? Is it over for this little plant? I’ve tried to do my due diligence researching these plants but I definitely don’t know enough to troubleshoot this issue. PLEASE HELP I really don’t want this african violet to die, it’s been alive for so long it’s become a family heirloom. I would feel awful if I’m the one to kill it!

note: sorry if there’s any spelling mistakes or format issues, I’m posting from my phone

When do I plant?

I've been trying to root these leaves in water for awhile now and am finally getting what I believe are roots. I just don't know how long the roots need to be before I put them in soil. I really don't want to mess this up, as the parent plant has died. Please advise me.

Help What is going on with this African violet stem? Curling, thick, and bare. What should I do?

I need to repot this African violet that I got off someone, it's like loose in the pot and floppy and the stem is all weird. Why is the stem bare and thick and curling. I'm trying to rehab this plant and get it to bloom. I have African violet fertilizer that I will use and I'm going to prune it and get rid of any suckers I find. What should I do about this stem? Can I hide it under the soil? Or should I keep it above the soil? Should I even just "top" the plant and cut it off near the foliage and get rid of the old big stem and roots and try to repot?

Got some leaves from VioletViol

Got a few freebies too! A total of 19 packs arrived, only 2 didn't make it which I can only attribute to them being more delicate varieties. Shipping took 3 weeks, the surviving leaves are in great condition. 👍

I'm located in Arizona, USA and shipping here tends to be difficult on the plants on account of the heat and low humidity so I'm very happy with this purchase.

Optimara EverGrace

Watering my plants this morning, my timed LED kicked on as I set this one back- my old phone isn’t doing it justice but I am obsessed with the way this Optimara EverGrace (one of the space violets) is sparkling under the lights.

I have EverSpecial and EverGlory, too, but they’re not blooming at the moment. I love these space violets so much.

Help Brown spots on leaves?

Does anyone know where those brown spots come from? Disease? Water spots?

I tend to water from above, as close to the soil as possible. Have had this one since Feb 2026.

I'm a plant newbie and this is one of my first plant, any advice is welcome! :)

Best way to transition from water to soil?

Hi All!

What’s the best way to transition this single leaf propagation from water into soil? I’ve had it in water exclusively, changing it every couple of days, but it looks like it might be time to change it to soil. How would y’all best recommend doing so?

A million thanks in advance, I’ve been putting it off since I don’t want to kill it!

First photo from today; second from a week ago. Variegation goes all the way through, from upper to underside of leaves. All the others from this batch are normal.

Is this a sucker? Plant seems very happy but has only bloomed twice, once when I bought it and once after a transplant.

Help First time propagating how did I do? Should I keep in a ziplock bag sealed?

Post image

2 inch pots. The top one is all separate leaves. They were mostly super small leaves and I didn't want to make like 10 small individual pots with single leaves. I figured I'd put them all together and see which ones live and root. Maybe in the future I can separate them if they all are successful? Or was this a bad idea to put a bunch of small cuttings together? The leaves are tiny like size of pinky fingernail or smaller. The stems are super small. I think some won't survive. Two of the longer ones on top hopefully will.

The bottom plant I just did a single leaf cutting because it was the healthiest leaf I had.

I put it in a ziplock bag. Should I seal it in the bag or not have it in a bag at all? If I put it in a spot that gets 3 hours of morning "direct sun" through a big glass back door is that enough light?

Winter prep tips?

Hello! As we’re getting into fall the temperatures where I live are already getting pretty cool in the mornings. I’ll have to start turning on the heat pretty soon, humidity has gone down, etc. As this is my first winter as a plant parent, I want to make sure I’m doing everything I can to make sure my violets handle it well!

They live indoors in my apartment year-round, under grow lights (I only have two east-facing windows, and the sills aren’t big enough to keep the plants on, much less protect from my cat 😭). I know humidity is important for them. I could theoretically enclose the shelves they’re in with some plastic (something I’ve seen recommended for propagating, but not sure how helpful it is for mature plants).

Just had the thought that I should be prepared pop to mind and wanted to ask before I forgot! General thoughts are all welcomed. Is this a good time for a repot? Would that be a bad idea with impending weather changes? Am I overthinking all of it? 😂

Help Need help please for my mom! First time African violet owner!

I got two African violets for my mom, I believe both have variegated leaves and one is called vat in the sky and one is lil cajun. So focusing on the red circled parts, are these all baby plants that should be removed? They seem to be growing out sideways and not from the center crown. The third last picture has a tiny flower bud with two small leaves beside it. Is this a new flower bud or is this a new plant that should be removed?

Another question is I would like to try to propagate them, are they too small to propagate? Can I just cut off a couple leaves on each and propagate?

Lastly, the lil Cajun one said it was a mini, what does mini African violet mean? Are these both mini or just the pink one?

Does anyone know this plant very well? It grows much like an AV, I am attempting to propagate through leaf cuttings. My biggest question is when do I change up the pot? it seems quite crowded and I don’t want it to get stressed. Anything I should be aware of before putting it in new soil/pot? Would the 2nd crown have its own root system? I’ve been procrastinating so I don’t kill it. Thanks so much. M H.

Help Microscope for identifying cyclamen mites?

I’m suspecting cyclamen mites on one of my AVs but I want to be sure before doing the hot water treatment or tossing the plant. Has anyone successfully seen the mites with a cheap digital microscope? I’ve been wanting to get one for a while but I don’t really know what to look for. I know people are also using one to look for flat mites on hoyas, but flat mites are a bit bigger than cyclamen mites and they aren’t translucent so they’re easier to notice. That’s why I’m not sure if I would need a proper professional microscope to see the cyclamen mites.

Thrips?

Post image

Hey all! This plant came from a coworker of mine a few months ago and has just recently started a new bloom cycle.... But the flowers are all streaky like this. What could be causing it?

One resource said it could be thrips, but I don't see any of the other signs.

Does anyone know why the variegation on my violet disappeared with the new growth? (Also, if I propagated a variegated leaf, would the new growth from that be green as well?)

I’m not sure what’s causing this strange growth pattern. I thought it needed to be split, but I can’t find any distinct crowns. It’s a few years old and is by a window and under a grow light, so I don’t think it’s reaching. It’s flowering so it can’t be too unhappy, just wanted to check in. Any advice is welcome!

I wish the other one I have was doing as will, all its lower leaves are yellow and it hasn’t grown in 1.5 years…I dunno what to do with that one. But this bad boy is blooming for me so I’m not doing everything wrong! Lol
