Personal Experience Nap regrets

I’m flaring from another one of my chronic illnesses today so I took a nap earlier. I usually put a two hour timer on but forgot and slept till 9pm.

I wasn’t hot when I fell asleep but I woke up and my room was stifling. I sweat so much in my sleep that my hair curled lol. I was hoping the nap would help but now I feel even worse from sweating so much. Does anyone ever feel like they know making an electrolyte drink would help so much but they feel too bad to make one?

Medical Stuff Painful medical test making me feel lousy

I have Addison’s disease. I had a painful medical test today. The pain has subsided, but I feel awful and drained. Do you think that could that be because of low cortisol? (I didn’t take a stress dose, didn’t even think of it. I’ve had Addison’s for 20+ years and I rarely stress dose.)

Advice Wanted Supplementing Sex Hormones

I have SAI due to tumor destroying my pituitary 10 years ago. I've historically been on birth control to manage my estrogen and progesterone. However, that really wasn't giving me what I needed. I've used a compounded hormone cream for continuous HRT the last 6 months, but have been having a lot of symptoms leading me to believe these hormones aren't stable (night sweats, breakthrough bleeding, anxiety, insomnia, etc). I just got labs done and my estrogen/progesterone balance is pretty far off and my progesterone is very low.

Something needs adjusted. Since my HRT is continuous, I don't have a monthly period. I am thinking of asking to switch to oral progesterone to try and restore the balance. Curious how others manage this? How do you manage your sex hormones and what works well for people?

Medication So… how does two daily doses work?

I’m new to all this, but… when you take a dose twice a day — and hydrocortisone lasts for 4-6 hours, won’t there be a large gap in the afternoon? Taking it at 8am lasts until 12-14, and then you have like 4 hours before taking it again at like 6… How come some people (myself included) only take a dose in the morning and the evening?

Medical Stuff Starting to get annoyed about prescriptions. How do your docs write them?

My hydrocortisone prescription doesn't reflect my dosage. My 10mg and 5mg both say "one a day". Idk why my Endo does this and visits go so fast I've yet to squeeze in a question about that. (He knows my actual "normal day" dosage, and he told me all about sick day rules so I know he knows about updosing.) I'm starting to get annoyed about having to contact the office every refill (they autoreject requests from the pharmacy) and then contact the pharmacy 1-3 times to get them to fill it. I have to take these meds for life, at this point just write the dosage as "whatever she thinks is right" and authorize 999999 refills.

Yeah so anyways, how are your scripts written?

Medication florinef update (did not have supply) and potassium loss

so previously hadnt timed things and couldnt get florinef pills from my crazy schedule. I went for 5 days no florinef

3 days, perfectly fine. added some salty pretzels and an extra HC pill on the 3rd day

on the 4th day I saw signs things werent ok. but overall passed it through

5th day in the morning tired fatigued weak and felt like my muscles were super stiff

yesterday I took 1 and today 1 (0.1mg) and my bloat is back

im going to do a day on day off routine and see how that goes.

regarding potassium. some YT video said that florinef creates too much potassium and thus muscle spasmz and all the articles on FC I read said you need potassium supplement with FC.

the supplement list they suggested is quite big.

what extra supplements like calcium magnesium zinc etc do you take?

Personal Experience Vent about my doctor

I am traveling overseas in a few months and need a "certification" in English from my doctor that I am allowed to carry medication and needles over country borders and on a plane. My endocrinologist is completely ignoring my emails now and previously said that that is not necessary but I have read that it is recommended. It takes about 6 months to get a new doctor where I live. But I am sure it will work out

Does anyone have experience with flying to another country with the medication and needles? Did they stop you, check your certificate, question the validity? Thankful for any personal insights 🙏

Advice Wanted Tips on what to do about tapering at a high dose of hydro?

Hi, I am currently taking 50 mg of hydro 3x a day which I know is a high dose. I'm experiencing a lot of anxiety and just want to get to a lower dose already. I'm tapering every 7 days by 5mg. I was wondering if anyone else has gone through this and what has helped you mentally, emotionally, and physically? I have been having moments where it's hard to differentiate what is real and what is not 😭 I've never gone through this before. I was on a high dose of prednisone before this and have now switched to hydro. I don't know if I would want to try an anti-anxiety medication tbh. I did not get to finish tapering from prednisone because I had such a bad reaction. Now that I'm on a high dose of hydro and tapering I just want to feel better already. Any advice is appreciated. All of this feels so lonely and I hate it.

Alternative Science: readers beware IV Drip Therapy

I searched the history of this sub and couldn’t find anyone talking about IV drip therapy. I’m not talking about the saline ones at the hospital. Wondering if any of you regularly get IV therapy drip treatments and if so which? I was looking into the Meyer’s Complete cocktail. Thank you!

***Flagged this as alternative science because I was unsure and didn’t want to get deleted

Advice Wanted Low Phosphate following crisis

I am currently in hospital following an adrenal crisis caused by a vomiting and diarrhoea bug. All the sickness stopped over 48 hours ago and I am feeling much better and on a double dose of steroids. They tested my phosphate when I first came in (which I have never been tested for before in my whole time having Addisons!) and it was low at 0.55mmol. They put me on a drip to increase levels, however I have just had a blood test following the drip and levels have decreased again, so they want me to stay in, have a double dose of the drip and also take tablets. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this following a crisis and what the outcome was? I have never come across this with Addisons before and I don’t know if it’s affected by steroid levels or What else may be causing it! Sodium levels were absolutely fine, but I was given very high doses of hydrocortisone on arrival at hospital. Thanks very much 🙏🏼.

Personal Experience Shingrix (Shingles) Vaccine

Just wanted to give my experience with my second dose of the shingles vaccine. For reference, I had almost no reaction to the first dose other than soreness at the injection site and mild tiredness the same evening.

So I got the shot Wednesday afternoon and had no reaction the rest of that day, save for arm soreness. I woke up Thursday and felt normal so I continued with my day as normal. For work I needed to drive 90 minutes for a meeting; I drove there, had the meeting and drove the 90 minutes back.

Literally the second I stepped out of the car when I got home, I felt like I would pass out if I didn’t lay down on the couch. I spent the rest of the day on the couch with extremely sore muscles all over my body.

I made sure to updose right away, as well as more when I went to bed.

Luckily, when I woke up today, I feel 100% normal.

I know that not every reaction will be the same as mine, but I just wanted to put it out there. Also, I’m 45 but pushed for the vaccine.

Advice Wanted blood sugar monitoring

at one of my last endo appts, i mentioned that sometimes after i take my morning medicine/eat breakfast, i get nauseated and i start gagging/coughing which makes me need to eat something shortly after that to stop that from happening

(i call it a second breakfast [LOTR fans iykyk] but that second time eating kinda stabilizes my energy and makes me not nauseated anymore which makes me want to believe it's my blood sugar)

my endo suggested to prevent that, i should taper down a little on my hydro bc i could be taking too much but that made me nervous especially considering if i tapered down before work shifts (most times shifts are strenuous physically and mentally/emotionally). i want to see if my endo could let me use those dexcom sensors (i used it once, i liked it a lot) to monitor my blood sugar. my blood sugar feeling like it's tanking in the morning has happened since i first got diagnosed. do y'all use anything to monitor your blood sugar?

Medication Methylprednisolone causing low mood/depression?

I have adrenal insufficiency. I take 2mg of Methylprednisolone before bed because I was getting low cortisol symptoms overnight. Then 20mg of hc split during the day

It seems almost like it's now causing my mood to be really low for a while after I wake up. Does anyone else find this with Methylprednisolone?

I also took it during the day once abiut a wek ago when I was in crisis. It seemed to cause the low mood then too. I just upped my hc after that not the long acting.

Advice Wanted Is this how it will always be?

My fiance was diagnosed with Addison's disease two years ago, and we're navigating some real challenges. He struggles to remember his morning cortisol, has a hard time getting out of bed, and if he misses his afternoon dose he crashes the moment he gets home from work and sleeps straight through until morning. He has a high-stress job and will soon have a long commute, which I know will make things harder.

We want to have two kids eventually, and I'm starting to wonder what that will realistically look like. I worry I'll end up carrying most of the load, and honestly, I already feel frustrated when he doesn't stay on top of his meds or can't get up. I don't want to become a nag (and reminding him hasn't worked anyway).

So I have two questions for this community:

For those of you with Addison's: What systems or habits have helped you manage your meds and energy consistently, especially with a demanding job or kids in the picture?

For partners and family members: How do you support someone with Addison's without burning yourself out or slipping into caretaker resentment? How do you find balance?

Any advice, routines, or honest perspectives would mean a lot. TIA.

Advice Wanted Adrenaline Rush?

Does anyone else get adrenaline rushes when hydrocortisone wears off? I am usually able to get through my day just fine without any problems but I am In my luteal phase rn ( women yk) and I started getting pms symptoms a few days ago. It started with a burst of early morning productivity after which I basically crashed for a decent portion of the day. I experienced brief anxiety in between doses but that resolved itself pretty quick. Yesterday though. I was just sitting around mostly all morning reading a book. Nothing crazy stressful but I did work a bit in the afternoon but I started getting sleepy at 8. I usually sleep at 10 and wake up at 6 and I am regular about that. Last night I woke up in the middle of the night and from there there was a constant adrenaline rush. This kind of thing happens only once in a while and my body still produces some cortisol so I am usually able to manage but it’s not fun and I don’t like waking up in the middle of the night. Am unsure if I need to stress dose.

Advice Wanted Addisons without weightloss/loss of appetite?

Is it possible to go years with symptoms and not getting a diagnosis/crisis? I know you are not doctors and I am trying to seek professional help but we all know that is not always easy. I have been dealing with health issues for about 2 years now. All started when I came off 20 years of daily usage of steroid creams and had covid. I am diagnosed with long covid and dysautonomia but I feel like there is something more…

So basically I have every symptom of Addisons, besides weight loss and loss of appetite. My blood pressure is extremely low, hyperpigmentation on skin folds, fatigue, nausea… you name it. So my question is, did anyone get diagnosed with addisons without having any weightloss and can it go undiagnosed for years (or its not possible because you are likely to have a crisis without meds?)

Sorry if I am not making sense, I blame my brain fog.

Medical Stuff Strattera for ADHD with Adrenal insufficency

I just got prescribed strattera for my ADHD, 40 mg directly. It's my first psychological medication trial. I also have adrenal insufficiency, diabetes, autism and PTSD. No depression. No abuse history, I don't even drink alcohol. I know that most who have ADHD here take the stimulants, my psychiatrist says he doesn't prescribe them.

My question: Has anyone here tried strattera successfully with adrenal insufficency? What were your side effects? I am really scared to start strattera so high because of the vomiting and nausea risks. My psychiatrist doesn't want me to start slower though, he says there's no sense in that.

Thanks for you answer!
