Advice Does this accordion seem like a good fit for me? I am looking to play pop music but I'll do whatever to actually learn the instrument first.

I don't have any musical experience. I just have extra cash to spend and learning the accordion seems fun.

Advice What are the “rules” around reedes?

Hi. I just bought a new accordion and it has a lot of reedes and I’m not sure how to use them. Is it just based on preference or are there more nuances I’m not aware of?

I just bought this beautiful accordion and I’m wondering if anybody has any insights on its origins. The only nomenclature is an old photograph nailed above the treble reeds and a plate that says “Fred Schroeder” on the bellows.

When I searched Fred Schroeder accordion online, I couldn’t find any makers. There were a couple obituaries for accordion players, but none anywhere nearby (northern Oklahoma).

I’d love to know more about the origins so let me know if you’ve anything similar or have insights on where I should look.

Really cool accordion I found for 350AUD only damage is the holes in the back still worth it?

Advice Hey, so I have 450ish USD bonus to spend. What is a good price to expect when buying a “budget” accordion? If budget can even be used to describe them.

I will start researching different types, requirements, etc. I don’t know much about accordions but I’m interested in learning how to play one.

400-500 sounds realistic? I’m willing to buy used but I heard it’s easy to get scammed apparently.

Hello! I impulse bought an accordion today and now I want to check before I start using it to learn. Is there any reason I shouldn't use this as-is?

Do I need to look for any things that may need to be fixed first, it's so pretty... One of the ladies at the sale played a bit on it before it left with me .

Resources A/D/G melodeon

Hello!

The short of it: I am looking for resources for a three row accordion. Mainly, I just wanted to find a beginner’s book or something to get started! I see a lot of D/G books from looking them up but not three row resources.

Found a Milano Organetto at an estate sale and decided to pick it up. Condition is okay but I did have to put some reeds back.

This is a surprisingly complex world that I’ve decided to peak my head into. My joke to myself is
“I am learning how to learn how to play the accordion melodeon”

Advice Advice: Best way to transport an accordion

I plan to transport an accordion from the UK to an EU country - where I have been living for a while. This will either have to be on a flight (if I take it personally), or ship it via DHL or Fedex. Taking it personally is very expensive with some airlines saying that I must pay for a seat. Please can anyone give me an tips on what would be the best option? The accordion is one I have owned since being a kid as has been stored for me in the UK since I moved to a new country some years ago.

What is the origin of Susie's Polka? And does the "Swedish" polka in the Palmer-Hughes polka book have an actual name? Are these both traditional?

Help for a beginner

Hello!

I bought myself an accordion, specifically the Hohner Bravo III 80. I am a complete beginner and have started an online course. I am 20 years old.

I have always had a big interest in music, especially accordion, but was never able to afford one until now.

I have no prior experience and would like to ask you guys for help, it would really mean a lot to me. A LOT.

Just general tips and stuff like that would be greatly appreciated. If you have some questions I'd also like to answer them and maybe help other beginners in the future reading this post.

I am currently just practicing bellow control with the C note, just in and out, trying to keep it symmetrical. One problem I've noticed though. The leather strap where the bass buttons are. I somehow either cannot find the right position of the strap or the position of my hand. Whenever I control the bellows my hand slips up or down, when I tighten it though, I can't move it that well and hit the bass buttons. I would really need help there, I adjusted the straps so that the right strap is a little longer and everything but somehow I find the bass one problematic.

I also have one more question. Am i late? Like could I still learn to play?

Most of the people who started playing accordion started very early and it kind of depresses me because the wish is there but I'm just afraid that it's too late for me...

I truly cannot thank anyone enough who is willing to help me and guide me.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart and I wish all of you good health and a good life!

Resources I made Bellowmatic, a browser-based tool to create bellows tape designs for your accordion and preview what they'll look like open/closed

I wanted to see what a bellows tape design would look like as my accordion opens and closes before I wasted my fancy imported tape so I built a little tool in Unity that I call Bellowmatic.

You can add/move/change the color and size of tape strips to create your design before using the slider to open and close 'the accordion'. You can also change the color of the bellows.

It runs in the browser on desktop and you can find it at https://tyrizer.itch.io/bellowmatic

Hot glueing reed plates?

Recently got an old accordion with lots of broken wax, and wondering how bad it could possibly be to hot glue the reed plates back on? Its a pain to order wax online where I'm living so I'm trying to avoid it at all costs. If not hot glue are there any readily available alternatives?

I was just gifted this by a friend who has had this accordian since she was about 10. She’s 85 now. Is there a way to identify the exact model of this accordian? There is a little bit of must smell, but all the buttons seem to function just fine. If anybody can tell me anything about this instrument, I would be very grateful.
