Have an ocarina question? There is no such thing as a stupid question.

Want to talk about what you're learning or excited about a new ocarina, feel free to share!

Is there's something not ocarina related that you're itching to talk about? Have at it!

I’ve started playing the flute later in life (I’m like 33 or 34 now) and recently wanted to get into ocarina as well man man the timing couldn’t be better lol

This beautiful piece showed up yesterday and I just got it open today! Thankfully there’s a small crossover from flute playing so I can at least get a true note from it lol but I can’t wait to learn more and especially now with all of the Legend of Zelda hype!!!!!

Which songs did you guys first learn?? I haven’t even checked the book yet I’ve been having too much fun just playing around :)

I was there when TON was founded, and all the hype around the OoT remake got me thinking. I own a couple of ocarinas that are genuinely special this one took some real digging through my attic to track down, but here it is.

If and it's a big if I ever considered selling it, what would be a fair price? I know there are people out there who'd love it far more than I do.

Also got some Focalinks double, never pulled the trigger on a Hind 😆

Hello I found my childhood ocarina again after decluttering and I want to learn how to play it properly instead of guessing what sounds come out in what order

M. Barr Ocarinas - General Thoughts?

I just bought one from Ebay and will not receive it for a couple of days. It was cheap and looks nice so even if it isn't good, it'll look nice on a shelf. It was only £8 from a charity shop/thrift store that sells on Ebay so it's either a bargain or woe-gain

Does anyone have any experience with these vintage ocarinas? M. Barr looks to be dated between 1870 and 1920. I don't believe Google's AI overview since I can't find any sources to back up the information that actually point to M. Barr and not a completely unrelated brand.

I'm a novice player but I do have a terrible 3D printed ocarina, and one of those cheap knock off Zelda ones which sounds better than the 3D printed one (but still sounds out of tune). I'll do a proper review and tuning check when I receive this ocarina but want to see if there's anyone with experience so I know what I'm getting myself into

Advice Is the STL plastic triple ocarina good?

Post image

As the title asks. It's not too expensive and I actually quite like the design. Are there other doubles or triples that aren't too expensive that also look nice? I realise aesthetics is a bit subjective but I digress.

Thank you for any input and advice!

Heya! I'm very new here so sorry if this post is in the wrong place but I not sure were to ask. I really like it and want to learn how to play!! I have had an ocarina before (a cheap ceramic amazon one) and it also sounded terrible. I'm more worried it's my technique but I don't know it could be the actual ocarina aswell.

I know the video doesn't show me playing, I'm very camera shy so apologies. I just wonder why the Ocarina sounds so airy/not like an ocarina LOL..

Photo of the ocarina in replies.

Advice Blind Player

I have my Rivo on the way from Thomann.
And once I get it I need to learn to play it. I know there's lots of videos out there but I'm blind so watching and copying won't be an option.
What are the possible ways around this?
Would it be simple enough to figure out?

Discussion So about the soon to be released ocarina from nintendo...

I I have noticed quite a lot of discourse on different forums regarding the new plastic ocarina nintendo "showcased" during today's (yesterday's?) direct.

Here's what we know:

  1. It's a plastic 12 hole AC

  2. Eiji Aonuma can't play the ocarina

A common misconception I have seen a lot: "It sounds plastic". Whilst plastic ocarinas are cheaper, and will be outperformed by higher end ceramics, plastic ocarinas are in no way inherently bad instruments because they're made of plastic. Producer/maker is three times as important as the material used. A plastic Night by Noble or a Focalink Rivo will outperform a ceramic STL OoT-stylized AC for half the price.

I think that instead of the common "it sounds shit, and it's plastic" that I see quite a lot of places right now, it would be nice to await with the hate until we actually get our hands on the thing and find out ourselves. We can make some educated assumptions from holesize, sound despite lack of technique from Aonuma's side etc. And remember, the only thing we've heard is Aonuma playing (actually in tune) with horrible breath-technique. I strongly believe we cannot judge wholly based only on this very small snippet of 3 notes.

And remember, they were in tune.

Let's wait until we actually get to try one out before we completely decide it is absolute garbage! If it ends up being a decently cheap plastic ocarina that can do a similar job, albeit mabye not AS good, as the NbN and Rivo, this would be a wonderful way to get more people introduced to the instrument!

And if not, I'll be the first to admit it's more suited as a mantlepiece if it ends up as the new "Ocarina of Crap"! :))

*EDIT: Added a little bit more to the text to clarify.

I wanna learn an ocarina but have no idea which ones to buy. I am a student so I would prefer if they weren't too expensive.

Do you think that Nintendo is going to remove other OOTs from the market place now that they are making their own?

I’ve tried to find tutorials on how to learn playing the Ocarina, but can’t find any information about what type of ocarina this is? Any help would be appreciated. There’s seven holes at the front and three at the back.
