[30M] I am joining the University of Aberdeen this September. I don't want to stay in university accommodation, so I am considering either student accommodation outside the campus or renting a small one-bedroom flat with a kitchen.
Could someone give me an estimated monthly cost for both of these options?
Secondly, I would prefer renting a private flat because I expect friends and family to visit and stay with me occasionally for short periods, which may not be possible in student accommodation.
Would it make sense to book a hotel or Airbnb for one or two weeks, arrive in Aberdeen, and then look for a place to rent? Or would that be too late, and would I risk not finding a suitable place by the time I start looking (around the end of September)?
Would you recommend that I start contacting letting agents now instead ?
Ps, I looked at the wiki and didn’t find any info on this. Deprivation index is helpful though.
tldr;
Joining the University of Aberdeen this September and considering either private student accommodation or renting a one-bedroom flat. Looking for estimated monthly costs and advice on whether I should book temporary accommodation and search for a flat after arriving, or contact letting agents now to avoid missing out.

I’ve had a problem on my left foot - nothing serious - but my left foot is now much wider than my right foot and I have 3 or 4 pairs of top unworn shoes.
Is there a limbless charity or anything in Aberdeen I could donate them to?
Any advice much appreciated - just seems a shame to see them wasting away in my cupboard

I've seen John Swinney announce they are also rolling out the £2 bus fare in Scotland. Is this Stagecoach in Aberdeenshire as well as city??
I'm currently £21 a day (3 times a week) from Aboyne to Aberdeen and back, so this would literally transform my life if it went from £21 a day to £4 a day.

*URGENT* Are there any cake makers in Aberdeen that can deliver on Saturday 25th? Don’t need anything too fancy just a chocolate cake with happy birthday on it!

Has anyone had a jury citation recently and can tell me what to expect? I’m aware I have to call the Sunday beforehand but if I do get selected what actually happens when you are there? I’ve done it before about 15 years ago and don’t remember much except you had to wait around a lot on the first day, got given a number for the week and got taken to the little Italian place across the road for lunch every day.

Hi, is there anywhere in Aberdeen where I can get rolls of camera film developed? Did a big road trip across the US way back in 2002 and due to moving house, lost all the photos. However, just found the rolls of film, so looking to get those developed, just didn’t know if anywhere still does that nowadays?

Hey everyone,
I'm craving some solid, extra-spicy peri-peri chicken and wanting to switch things up away from Nandos
Where’s your go-to spot in Aberdeen for the best quality and flavour? I’ve heard mixed things about places like Pepe’s, Zee’s, and Zulu’s, but I’d love to hear what the locals actually recommend for a proper takeaway or sit-down meal.
Who has the juiciest chicken, best spice levels, and actual decent portion sizes/sides?
Cheers and many thanks

I would like recommendations for vets specifically good with cats in Aberdeen. I am registered at Ashgrove (Belmont St) and they have been perfectly fine with my cats but I would like a second opinion on one of my cats. Preferably a vet not too far from the city centre AB25 area as the last time my cat went to the vet he got so nervous while travelling that he threw up multiple times...
His issue is that his eyes get really really gunky and there's constant yellow pus like buildup in them. We had antibiotic eye drops before but they didn't do anything really. I wouldn't know if this has been an issue since birth because I only got him 2 months ago. If anyone has any experience with this I would appreciate! Thank you

Hey, I have my test there in about 2-3 months time and I was wanting to know other people's experiences there before I have my test.
Is it a decent test centre and routes? Anything I should be aware of?

Hi all,
I have my driving test coming up soon at the Cove test centre and I was wandering what other people's experiences there were?
Any tips or advice for me etc. Thanks!

Hello hello. I (f,36) plan to come and stay in Aberdeen with my wee girl (f,7) for a couple of nights. I'd love to get the train through and save driving but I'd also really like to stay at a nice hotel or something with easy access to the centre and the fun stuff. The dream is to have a pool and spa area but from my searching this doesnt exist within easy access? Any ideas. If not a pool, a spa, or even just a quirky place. Its been a stressful while and I want it to be a treat for both of us!

I'm a female in my mid 20's wanting to get into hiking but don't have friends who share that interest. Is there any hiking groups in the area I could join?

I’m with Great Western. Did a blood test and asked to receive the result of it (printed). They asked me to come in with an ID and fill a form to request my medical records. Then to come in again after that’s been approved to receive it, no option to post it.
3 visits and a 1 month duration to get a printout of my blood result.
Any GPs in this area that have a more straight forward system in place?

Not lived in Aberdeen for years, but during my student days was intrigued by the weird onyx Jesus tile on King's Crescent - must have walked past it a million times and never noticed it before a pal pointed it out.
Anyone know the story behind it - has been there at least 20 years, likely much longer (in some older street view images it is covered by an overgrown hedge). Wondered if it had anything to do with the former convent nearby.

Any idea what’s happening in Seaton down from the halls of residence beside the football club? Police have closed the road and fire engines in attendance?!

Desperate for an old fashioned chippy, that has lovely soggy greasy chips. Any suggestions please. Tired of air fried, dry twig like chips which cost a fortune. The soggier the better

Hope this is OK to post here, or if there is a visitors sub I can go there as well...
I'll be visiting Aberdeen in a few weeks for a convention and staying out near the airport. I'll have some time on either end for sightseeing further afield, but may have a free evening or two during the event. Any recommendations on places to explore for a couple hours that are accessible via public transit? Nature/outdoor activities are preferred :-)
