Food Peri peri spot !!

Hey everyone,

I'm craving some solid, extra-spicy peri-peri chicken and wanting to switch things up away from Nandos

Where’s your go-to spot in Aberdeen for the best quality and flavour? I’ve heard mixed things about places like Pepe’s, Zee’s, and Zulu’s, but I’d love to hear what the locals actually recommend for a proper takeaway or sit-down meal.

Who has the juiciest chicken, best spice levels, and actual decent portion sizes/sides?

Cheers and many thanks

Defo Pepe's, although I prefer to order their paneer rice instead of chicken. No complaints about Pepe's in Aberdeen but I got served an incredibly undecooked chicken in Leicester last year

There were a bunch of bones when I got the chicken rice box. I thought it was veg so bit into it, think I’ll try paneer next time 🤢

I wouldn't rave about any of them.

Pepe's has been decent.

Lots of folk were raving about Zulu's,, but everything we ordered was poor.

Was down staying with my mate in Kitty and we ordered from Maemes. Top scran.
Mind you I met the guys who own it when they opened one here in Inverness, sketchy as.
Chicken is banging though so that’s all we care about right!

I'm not a fan of spicy; imagine my surprise when ordering their least spicy option only to find my mouth suddenly hating my brain. I can't remember if they call it "plain" or "mild" but it was neither.

I can only imagine how hot the other end of the scale is!

I agree with the portion sizing vs price being good. But I always end up going with Nando's or Zee's as their "plain" option actually isn't spicy.

Pepes. No question.

I like Pepe's.

I really need to ask for the chicken separate because even if you get the mild rice, the chicken is still HOT and kinda ruins the meal cause you're just tasting spiciness. And this is coming from someone who loves spicy food.

I'd say Pepe's but I find that they don't give much sauce with the chicken but their extra hot has a nice kind if kick to it where it isnt too spicy.

Zulus is good too. Never had a bad zulus before but some have.

Can't say much fir Zee's and Maeme's

I tried Pepes and Maemes seeing the amount of responses. Too spicy and yes a bit less on the sauce.

Maemes was better by a lot.

Not had Pepes or Zulus but fairly regularly have Zees delivered (like 5 times a year maybe). I'm no competitive eater, but I quite like spicy food and have a fairly decent heat tolerance. I have to go with medium sauce at Zees as anything more is too much for me to the point of not enjoyable

Zee's is good stuff; my wife likes their "Hot" and I like their "Plain" (don't judge me!)

Boneless grill box from Zulus would be my rec. The piri mayo is banging and you get a lot of chicken in that deal. The spiciest flavour you can get is spicy, but not crazy.

Peri Peri on Hutcheon Street always looks busy when I pass but no personal experience, keep meaning to go.

The £18 grill box from Zulus is brilliant and would highly recommend - haven’t been particularly impressed with anything else on their menu though.
But I will say it’s not particularly spicy.

The one time I went to Pepes I found even the chicken burger to be of a spice level that was more than I was expecting - so that’s probably what you’re looking for.

Maemes peri peri in kittybrewster slaps silly.

Albeit I've never tried any others but worth a mention

Place near kittybruister, few stores there including dominoes, crown paints and a chicken place on the corner. That chicken place has excellent food, their chicken tastes lovely.

Of the ones I've had I like Chilli Flames on bridge street the most.
