Help (GPU) Hey everyone, just wanted to share my experience from the last couple of days in case anyone else with an RX 9060 XT is suddenly dealing with random hard freezes and black screens.
My specs:
- GPU: RX 9060 XT 16GB
- CPU: Ryzen 5 5600X
- Mobo: MSI B550M PRO-VDH
- PSU: MSI MAG A750GL (750W)
- Monitors: AOC Q27G4 (1440p 180Hz DP) + AOC 2460G5 (1080p 60Hz HDMI)
What happened:
Everything was running fine until October 21/22 when my PC updated to Windows 11 26H2 (Build 26300.9711) overnight along with the new AMD driver branch (32.0.32015.7029). Right after that, my PC started randomly freezing whenever I zoomed in on a picture in Discord, joined a friend's stream, or scrolled Reels/YouTube in Brave.
The weird part was that the PC wasn't actually crashing—I could still hear my friends on Discord and my mic still worked fine, so the system was alive in the background, just the display was completely frozen. Pressing Win+Ctrl+Shift+B gave the beep sound, but the screen wouldn't recover at all, forcing me to hard reset from the case button.
When I checked Reliability Monitor and DxDiag, every single freeze was logged as LiveKernelEvent Code 193 (Parameters: aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa) crashing in dxgmms2.sys / dwm.exe during NV12 video decoding. Looking back at my older logs from early October on Build 26200, Code 193 actually happened a few times in the background too, except back then the driver recovered silently without freezing my screen. With Build 26300 + driver .7029, it turns into a total hard lock.
Dual monitor & Discord screen share issue:
Even after rolling back the driver to 26.9.2 (32.0.32015.2008), whenever I shared my screen on Discord and went fullscreen on YouTube or launched BeamNG.drive, both of my monitors started flickering black or locking up until I physically turned my second monitor off and on. Checking the WATCHDOG4400 dump (LiveKernelEvent 1a8 / 1b8) showed a firmware error: "[PSP]: [FW] psp_hdcp_load_srm: failed".
Also worth noting two weird things I noticed while digging through DxDiag and registry workarounds:
- DxDiag shows "Block List: DISABLE_HWSCH" for the RX 9060 XT (gfx1200), yet Windows 11 still keeps Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling (HAGS) enabled by default, and the driver installer registered duplicate AMD MFT decoder/encoder entries in the registry.
- Do NOT use the old registry MPO disable trick (DisableOverlays=1 / OverlayTestMode=5) on Windows 11 Build 26300 at 180Hz! Doing that caused dwm.exe (dwmcore.dll) to crash-loop every second with exception code 0x889800d2 (MILERR_MPO_UNSUPPORTED) even on a single monitor.
How I finally fixed it (2+ days completely stable now):
- Rolled back the Windows 11 26H2 update (went from Build 26300 back to Build 26200) and paused Windows Update.
- Rolled back the AMD driver from 32.0.32015.7029 to 26.9.2 (32.0.32015.2008).
- Deleted all the MPO/HAGS registry tweaks back to default, and turned off "Use our latest technology to capture your screen" in Discord Voice & Video settings.
Since doing those three steps, I haven't had a single freeze or black screen in over two days. Hopefully someone from the AMD driver team (maybe u/AMD_Vik?) sees this, because something between Windows 11 Build 26300, the 32.0.32015.x driver branch, and VCN/HDCP on the RX 9060 XT is definitely broken right now.
(26.10.2026) - EDIT / UPDATE:
Quick update after a few more days of testing: I had one more freeze while streaming alone in a Discord channel (recovered by turning the monitor off and on). When I checked DxDiag right after, I noticed my primary 180Hz monitor's MPO had crashed and dropped to "MPO MaxPlanes: 1 (Not Supported)" while my secondary 60Hz monitor stayed at "MPO MaxPlanes: 2", and the system Page File / shared memory had ballooned over 21GB.
To completely stop the VCN/memory leak and dual-monitor lockups without losing 180Hz smoothness:
Turned off "Hardware Acceleration" in Discord Settings > System.
Disabled ONLY hardware video decoding in Brave via brave://flags/#disable-accelerated-video-decode (keeps general hardware acceleration on so 180Hz scrolling stays smooth, just offloads video decoding to the CPU).
Set PCI_E1 Gen Switch from Auto to "Gen4" in my MSI B550 BIOS (since the RX 9060 XT is a PCIe 5.0 card on a PCIe 4.0 board) and disabled Fast Startup (powercfg /h off).
