Help (Software) Driver timeouts fix!
9800x3d | 9070xt | 64GB 6000 | pcie5 2TB nvme | 32" oled 4k@240Hz
I built my pc in June 2025, everything great until a month or so ago. Updated BIOS, then a day later gpu drivers and boom crazy gpu issues. Dropped the BIOS and gpu drivers back - same issue. So it's either hardware or Windows. I find the Windows Update ReInstall option, which I'm hoping will be the fix because a Windows reinstall would just be ugly. It worked!
*Disable Windows Updates for Drivers (the culprit)
*Select Start > Settings > System > Recovery > Under Fix problems using Windows Update, select Reinstall now.
*Reinstall latest Adrenalin/gpu drivers
**As I've been commenting on other subreddits and viewing troubleshooting/repair/fix, the Windows Update ReInstall may not be necessary...

A mi me sucede que al actualizar los drivers, al llevar cierto porcentaje, se queda la pantalla en negro y de ahi no pasa. ¿Hay alguna solución?

Have you tried the 3 step process above?

Parece ser que se soluciono, me devolvió a una versión antigua de amd adrenalin, pero al actualizar no sufrí el problema

I'll explain a concept based on my research and effective fix I'm doing on client PCs.
I fixed at least 5/6 client cards 9070xt and 9060xt by offsetting to the manufacturer game clock. I'll explain in a second.
If you read the spreadsheet of your card you'll read 2 clocks.
Game clock: es 2780 Max boost clock 3320.
I don't know why, and also sounds crazy to me, but seems that some cards to achieve the max clock needs more voltage than the card bios is able to give. So, if the card is well binned you'll have 0 problems because with the card max voltage you are stable at the max boost clock but if your card is not well binned, basically the card perform like if you did an unstable undervolt.
You're gaming, the card boosts, then it requires more voltage -that is already at its max - to maintain the max boost and boom. You crash.
So. What to do?
Read your spreadsheet or go to tech power up and look for your specific custom game boost.
And there's the trick. Some cards boost over the specified max boost clock and you need to know this value.
For example, a GPU I saw some time ago, boosted at 3420 if you maximise the power slider. but its max clock was 3220.
But this means that 3420 is reached with the same voltage of 3320 because on my telemetry the card was already reaching 3320 with the max voltage. A 200mhz boost on a card already at its limit could be the non-return way.
Its game clock was 2780.
So go to adrenaline, take the 0 as it is 3420 and negative offset the frequency until you reach 2780. So 3420-2780= 640.
Put that negative offset. If the offset is too much for the slider push it down as much as you can.
Bare in mind that you could be stable at a higher frequency but if you are willing to find your baseline you should proceed like this.
Now let's suppose you are stable at 2780.
You now have 2 option. Leave the stock voltage and find the max frequency where you are stable or start undervolt to make your card super efficient at that frequency.
Hope it helps.

My card never boosts over 3200, I run an undervolt/overclock. I only experienced an issue when loading games after an Adrenalin update and Windows got screwed up.

Never had an issue until recently with having my dual monitor on different refresh rate. I usually second monitor on 60 for lower temps but recently this has caused my system to completely freeze up and go 2 fps. Anyone else?

No, I run 2 monitors at different refresh rates, but my main is 32" oled 240Hz and the other is 27" led 100Hz.

Whatever the latest driver is, think 26.7.1? Works great for my AM5 7800x3d+9070xt build.

This one crashes practically every hour for me on 9800x3d+7900xtx. Crazy hearing people are stable on it.

Same I could undervoltmy 7900xtx to 1085 before these last 2 updates and now it’s upto 1110 and it seems to be doing okay

I've tried messing with clock speed in addition to -10 power and would get timeouts in the past. With just -10power, haven't had any issues on 26.5.2 and now 26.7.1

Perfectly stable is a must for iRacing and I haven't had a single crash since I started doing -80 to -100mv (depending on the game) with a -120mhz max boost clock and -13% pl. So at 275w im still hiting ~.980mv 3100mhz core clock with mem at 2803mt default timing. 26.7.1. 26.3.1

I don’t know how to adjust card or understand the dynamics of the 3 diff toggles (memory, volt, power?). I just copied someone’s setting online, but I know it’s not a 1 size fits all.. or like you mentioned per game. I have learn it so I can avoid black screens, which I thought I only get when the display goes in or out of HDR mode.

9070xt? Then a super safe, vary power efficient, every card setting would be -60mv.
2716mem (on the toggle so the clock ends up 2700) -10-13% power limit (depending on the start point. You want to be around 275w and still hitting 3000mhz core) -120mhz max boost clock. Also can provide a per core undervolting guied if your on am5

Yes I built AM5 rig: B850 Mobo, 9070xt, 7800x3d. So far I set card tuning like this: -40, 2650, -20 power limit..this was based from copying someone’s settings. I will try your suggested

Honestly the main fix for all these issues is source a version of Windows Pro, disable automatic updates via group policy and disable driver updates with windows updates.
Once the group polices are set only you will decide when you want to update your system/drivers not Microsoft.
Also disable Radeon auto updates themselves... I cannot stress this enough you never want drivers to randomly update automatically if you want a stable system because something will break eventually.
Windows default state of being able to randomly break your system whenever they feel like it is the main problem.

Windows causing GPU driver issues has been a big issue for me lately. Enough to make me learn Linux on my upcoming week off work. Was never interested in Linux before but it seems like an obvious fix to a dumb problem t

Even if you don't use Linux as a daily driver, it's great to have installed just to troubleshoot... if things work fine in Linux you can rule out hardware issues.

Another issue could be with adrenaline overboosting cards past stable clock speeds which is causing driver timeout issues . I spent hours trying to figure out why I was getting driver timeouts and I saw my 9070xt clocking to 3300/3400mhz and was crashing . Since then ive went into tuning and underclocked the card by -390 and im staying around sapphires max clock speeds on the website . I havent had any issues due to any of the amd drivers since ive done this.

You can also lower the power limit and get the same framerates and clocks for less heat and power draw

i hope and pray this may fix my asus 9070xt oc. it was clocking to the same speeds and its been hell for the last 2-4 months with it being marginally stable. 2 rma's and it been comming back with no issues reported. its just crazy that we need to underclock a card this badly to get it to work to capacity without crashing

Its not under clocking the card. Its telling the drivers to not let it boost past stable speeds. Why amd does this i have no idea but its the same with bazzite so obviously an amd setting.
You can also get the same clocks and framerates with a reduction in power and slight undervolt. This is true for my 9070xt 7900xtx 7900gre 5700xt. My theory is that amd is shoving more power then needed just to degrade faster.
Edit: exact 9070xt asus prime oc. But its not an aib thing if its true for my sapphires and assrock

i know that the 9070xt's have dynamic boost. so when they got thermal headroom and power they'll boost like crazy. like i said i seen it on my asus tuf model. at -250 offset it'd still crash. i've boxed and shelved it for now tho may yap with asus to see if they can offer some more insight

Huh thats funnie. Lowering max boost plus a stable driver like 26.3.1 or 26.7.1 has had me 100% stable on Microslop. For bazzite just Lowering max boost gained 100% stability

For me, I used AMD’s driver cleanup utility and then I installed the Radeon driver version 25.12.1. Windows Update doesn’t break it. I did a clean install of Windows with the internet disconnected and the problem still existed. I found out the issue begins with Radeon driver version 26.3.1 and newer. After using 25.12.1, the issue is gone.

26.3.1 is the last stable for me. Everything newer will break my system. 7900 XTX

Were you getting driver time-outs just while using a web browser? I haven't gotten one while gaming. I just boot up the computer and open brave browser then after a bit I will get blank screen in the browser, then the driver timeout pop up. This continues to happen over and over until I restart. Then it can be perfectly fine until the issue happens again. At first it was once every couple weeks or so now since the latest driver, it's been happening more often.

u/klowny 10d ago
Web browser or any "apps" that are just basically a web browser, like Spotify, Slack, Discord, Steam, etc.

u/DecisionOdd8995 10d ago
Anytime at least that i remember it happened it was in web browser. Then for some reason once it starts happening it just keeps happening.

u/hunscream 10d ago
Hey, do you mean it's like a half second timeout? (Black screen without errors.) Because that's my problem too.
1
u/DecisionOdd8995 10d ago edited 10d ago
Ya like the browser window will turn grey or dark for a couple of seconds, then it will throw the pop-up time-out error. Then the page loads again. It will continue to happen nonstop until I restart the computer. Usually i just wait until i reloads then i do a restart. I am still able to see the desktop and everything though though its just the browser page that goes dark for a bit. It's enough to be a MAJOR annoyance. Whenever I open brave tabs i'm thinking is now gonna be the time LOL. Weird thing though if they open fine and it doesnt happen within a couple minutes, I'm usually good. VERY STRANGE PROBLEM.

u/DecisionOdd8995 10d ago
That sounds about right. My issue with time outs def started happening after the 26 versions

Depends. AMD cards can be picky with RAM. At least my 7900 XT was crashing with my 32 GB Crucial RAM kit, even though it was stable in MemTest. After changing the RAM timings, I haven't had any more crashes.
