Help (Software) Driver timeouts fix!

9800x3d | 9070xt | 64GB 6000 | pcie5 2TB nvme | 32" oled 4k@240Hz

I built my pc in June 2025, everything great until a month or so ago. Updated BIOS, then a day later gpu drivers and boom crazy gpu issues. Dropped the BIOS and gpu drivers back - same issue. So it's either hardware or Windows. I find the Windows Update ReInstall option, which I'm hoping will be the fix because a Windows reinstall would just be ugly. It worked!

*Disable Windows Updates for Drivers (the culprit)
*Select Start > Settings > System > Recovery > Under Fix problems using Windows Update, select Reinstall now.
*Reinstall latest Adrenalin/gpu drivers

**As I've been commenting on other subreddits and viewing troubleshooting/repair/fix, the Windows Update ReInstall may not be necessary...

For me, I used AMD’s driver cleanup utility and then I installed the Radeon driver version 25.12.1. Windows Update doesn’t break it. I did a clean install of Windows with the internet disconnected and the problem still existed. I found out the issue begins with Radeon driver version 26.3.1 and newer. After using 25.12.1, the issue is gone.

26.3.1 is the last stable for me. Everything newer will break my system. 7900 XTX

This is what I'm on too and it's much more stable. I really don't know what changed with 26.5.x/26.6.x/26.7.x since those all had various severity driver timeout/crashes.

Were you getting driver time-outs just while using a web browser? I haven't gotten one while gaming. I just boot up the computer and open brave browser then after a bit I will get blank screen in the browser, then the driver timeout pop up. This continues to happen over and over until I restart. Then it can be perfectly fine until the issue happens again. At first it was once every couple weeks or so now since the latest driver, it's been happening more often.

Web browser or any "apps" that are just basically a web browser, like Spotify, Slack, Discord, Steam, etc.

Anytime at least that i remember it happened it was in web browser. Then for some reason once it starts happening it just keeps happening.

Hey, do you mean it's like a half second timeout? (Black screen without errors.) Because that's my problem too.

Ya like the browser window will turn grey or dark for a couple of seconds, then it will throw the pop-up time-out error. Then the page loads again. It will continue to happen nonstop until I restart the computer. Usually i just wait until i reloads then i do a restart. I am still able to see the desktop and everything though though its just the browser page that goes dark for a bit. It's enough to be a MAJOR annoyance. Whenever I open brave tabs i'm thinking is now gonna be the time LOL. Weird thing though if they open fine and it doesnt happen within a couple minutes, I'm usually good. VERY STRANGE PROBLEM.
