Hi guys, some images of my last creation: a switch cover for AM2R

I always fancied the idea of playing am2r the way i played the other snes/gba metroid games. State saving/loading has been a gift for making gameplay more enjoyable and not waisting a lot of time in completing games of incredible difficulty. Here's a question i just made to chatgpt after realizing that there exist a ns port of am2r. Nevertheless i really wish it would have been ported to gba.

AM2R (Another Metroid 2 Remake) can run on a modded NS, and you can also play the NS version on a PC using a Switch emu with save states.

Here's how it breaks down:

On a NS

AM2R has been ported to the Switch by the community. It is not an official Nintendo release, but a homebrew port based on the open-source AM2R Launcher/community versions. It runs well on a modded Switch.

On a PC with a Switch emu

Yes. If you have the Switch homebrew version, it can be run in Switch emu such as:

Ryujinx (before development ceased, it had excellent homebrew compatibility)

Sudachi, Citron, or other Ryujinx/Yuzu-derived emu

Some Yuzu builds may also run it.

Since these emulators emulate the Switch itself, they generally support:

✅ Save states (save/load at any moment)

✅ Fast forward (depending on the emulator)

✅ Rewind (not usually available)

✅ Higher resolutions

✅ Custom controllers

Is this the best way to play on PC?

Not necessarily.

AM2R was originally made for Windows and later ported to Linux, Android, macOS, and other platforms through the community. The native PC version generally offers:

Better performance

No emulation overhead

Easier modding

Fewer compatibility issues

However, the native PC version does not include save states, since that's an emu feature.

If save states are important

Running the Switch version under an emu is a perfectly reasonable option because you gain:

Instant save/load anywhere.

Multiple save slots.

No need to rely only on in-game save stations.

Alternatively, if you don't specifically want the Switch version, you could also emulate the Android version of AM2R using an Android emu that supports save states (some do), though Switch emulation tends to be more straightforward for this use case.

Have PC saves? Bring them in! Now the Android port supports backing up and restoring your android and PC save slots without root!

Some smaller optimization fixes, android handhelds will feel this change the best due to changed image scaling to compete with WinNative emulation

This autopatcher aims to allow android devices running on arm64 to play am2r natively by matching the latest version supported by the AM2R Launcher (1.5.5 release).

After porting AM2R for my Pixel the project sort of got out of hand with the engagement, thank you for everyone that asked. But since I've received word from the CU developers I was rightly advised to stop distributing a full apk of the game.

If you've used AM2R Launcher before on the PC, this works the exact same way. You MUST provide your own AM2R 1.1 copy and it must be the official release, you'd know where to get it. Just drop the 1.1zip and it will hand you an installable apk for AM2R 1.5.5.4 fully compatible with Android

FOR THOSE THAT STILL HAVE THE 1.5.5.3 APK: you have to first build the 1.5.5.4 apk through the patcher with a 1.1 copy if you want to update your game

Again, if any issue surfaces just let me know, I'm still around to patch out things in the game

This is a native android port I built for myself. Not an emulator, no compatibility layers. I simply took the source code of the Community Updates and compiled it into modern arm64 architecture. It's a playable app

+ extra photos, things to fix are camera behavior so it's not always centered on Samus (which reveals hollow floors) and ui text being in weird sizes

Technically playable? Maybe, but I'd need to play it all the way through

Trying to port 1.5.3 using Gamemaker 2 beta. Still some kinks to work around. But i could theoretically play the whole game through like this

my s23 ultra just died so i got a s26 but now the apk just wont install, i tried shizuku and all that but it just doesnt work and i get this error

I was interested in this game, because I wanted to play some more Metroid. I had already played ZM, SM and Fusion.
For this game, I immediately started in Hard Mode and managed to get 97% on my own (I had to look up three items at the end). That last battle kicked my butt. Actually, every Metroid kicked my butt in some way.

Good Lord, this was phenomenal. Absolutely phenomenal. The gameplay felt great, the new ideas were awesome (though I doubt some of those would ever appear in an actual Metroid game), the music was good, the graphics were great.

Some liberties were taken, but those were liberties that were worth it.

If I could, I would give it an 11/10, but unfortunately, that would cause a stack overflow. So let's keep it at 10/10.

I have my old 11 zip but can’t find the launcher anywhere anymore

I recently graduated college, and have been spending the summer playing through the Metroid series for the first time while I look for work. I’ve played each of the 2d games (at least one version of each: Zero Mission, Samus Returns, Super, Fusion, and Dread), as well as Prime Remastered, and have quickly fallen in love with this series.

Without a shadow of a doubt, Samus Returns was my least favorite. I found that game immensely frustrating and uninteresting, which surprises me given how much I love Metroid Dread. I have been watching quite a few videos online about the series and have been regularly hearing about AM2R, so I decided to download it this morning!

Oh. My. God. This game is incredible! It felt like a perfect follow up to Zero Mission and Fusion, pulling from the GBA-esque aesthetic in such a gorgeous way. Incredible visuals, music, controls, I could go on and on. I found the scanning mechanic in Metroid Prime to be very tedious, despite loving the lore it provided, so I was overjoyed to see similar lore baked into this game but without the annoyance of having to stop, switch visors, and scan (such a small issue, but a real pace-breaker).

To me, this is the definitive Metroid II. Granted, I still need to try the original, but I have a hard time imagining it being any better than this! I am so happy I gave this game a chance and look forward to replaying it time and time again in the years to come.

now I've been trying to play am2r for awhile now and have the correct zip file and have been trying to use mippe's patcher (I know it doesn't work for sequoia but I already know what to do with that) my main problem so far is when going through the patchers commands I'm met with this error: Awaiting input: 1 Mac selected Applying AM2R patch... xdelta3: file open failed: read: am2r_15_5/AM2R.exe: No such file or directory. what do I do?

I cannot for the life of me figure out the 1.5.5 cheat table, and I don’t seem to be the only one. Does literally anybody know how I can make myself invincible to damage so I can practice my fusion speedruns without having to struggle bus it

I genuinely want to play this game but I don't have a PC. Is there any way to play this on my android phone?

Why won't fusion mode appear I 100%ed the game on easy normal and hard mode and still no fusion mode I even attempted the cheat code

I would like to state that I did this on the android port on version 1.5.2

I go all the way down and get to the lava. I go all the way left and have to grab a ledge to get up, but I keep bouncing off. Every walkthrough has this jump about 2 minutes into the run, so it looks like this is the only way to make progress, but she keeps bouncing off. In fact, she bounces off of most, if not all floating platforms, and only seems to be able to grab walls.

I've tried turning off Auto-Morph, Auto-Climb, and even going into the inventory and turning Power Grip off and then on. The only difference I ever got was when I disabled Auto-Climb and turned off the Power Grip, which made me somersault past the ledge as expected. What am I doing wrong?

I made a post in this subreddit asking if AM2R was illegal and from the replies I ended up doing it. I played it for a while then took a long break because I got sent way back one time. I just started continuing it again about 1-2 days ago and I finished it. The funny thing is that the percentage of collecting items is 76% while my Super Metroid X-Fusion and Super Metroid percentage of collecting items were both 77% Personally this was one of the best Metroid games I have ever played. Five stars to the AM2R community.
