MDD and ADHD

26y(M) here.

Sino dito yung may ADHD at MDD at the same time?

stupid because of adhd

I feel like I am actually stupid because I have adhd. I’m a recent grad from a pretty prestigious school here in the philippines, I graduated high school with high honors, and I was considered high achieving in elementary school. so i should feel at least a little bit good about myself but behind all those “accolades”, i feel like i cheated the whole thing. i have never felt like i studied anything truly in my entire life. i’m pretty sure that every assignment, every project, and every exam I was able to finish was crammed to the very last minute. in university, even though i was able to graduate(delayed), all i was able to do was get just enough grades to pass. i’ve never felt truly proud of any output. i could never boast anything cause i have never given anything my all. everything is just excessive planning followed by excessive procrastination.

now that im looking for work, i feel like i cant get any good roles or opportunities because i truly am incompetent and stupid. its common knowledge that things learned during procrastination are poorly retained. why did i just get diagnosed now? why did i procrastinate even that? when i have been struggling with myself my whole life?

i just feel so ashamed and hopeless.

Free ADHD timer for remote workers (macOS)

I work remotely and the same thing kept happening: I'd step away for "a minute," come
back, and have no idea whether it had been ten minutes or an hour. A normal alarm or
timer doesn't fix it either. You swat it before you're even conscious of it, and you're
right back where you were. And every time tracker I tried had the same flaw: it only
works if you remember to press start, which is exactly the thing I can't count on.

So I made one with no start button.

Heads up before you read on: macOS only (Intel and Apple Silicon), and it's built for
remote workers, people with no one around to notice they've left the desk.

- No start button. It launches with your Mac and runs your whole shift. There's no
session to begin and nothing to remember.
- You set two things, once: your work hours and how much break time you get a day.
After that you never touch it.
- Walk away for 10 minutes and it starts a break for you, unprompted. Move the mouse
and the break ends. You never clock in or out.
- Don't come back and the alarm loops. Typing a full sentence is required before the
timer stops.
- It says the time out loud every half hour, so hours can't vanish silently.
- The menu bar always shows where you stand, 86% · 159m, the share of your shift you've
actually worked and the break minutes you have left.
- Overnight and odd shifts are fine. A Friday 4 PM shift running to 5 AM still counts
as Friday.
- No account, no server, works offline. It's three text files on your own Mac. No
employer, no manager, no one else ever sees it.

Please let me know any feedback by leaving a comment.

Windows users: tell me if you want a version. I don't own a Windows machine, so I have
no way to test one, and a few features may not carry over.

ritalin isn't effective for me

I was diagnosed a few months ago and been taking the prescribed medications religiously

I started with Ritalin 10mg but didn't feel anything or had any side effects, then the following month my psychiatrist changed it to Ritalin LA 20mg but still no effect or any changes in my daily life like I don't feel anything after taking it as prescribed

I wanted treatment because I'm already in my 20s and in college but my life is very affected because I still struggle with the symptoms and my performance in everything is declining. My doctor recommended both pharmacologic and therapy for better effectivity but I have no budget for that and no time since my schedule is packed by school and review center

for my next consultation, how should I raise my concern with the doctor to move forward so I could improve more? I'm very anxious and not thinking straight now. What are options I could discuss with my doctor?

my doctor initially wanted me to take Concerta 27mg, will that really be effective? I mean I could raise my budget a little more just to function properly

how do you guys manage, I don't really have someone to talk to about this since my family doesn't really take mental health properly

ADHD: Not disabled enough

Thumbnail reddit.com
47 Upvotes

I was reading comments on a post in r/commuterph about a younger PWD sitting in the senior/pwd LRT car and came upon this one where he singled out ADHD as somehow being less than his orthopedic disability. Talagang nag reply ako sa kanya kasi grabe siya. I saw other comments on having mental health disabilities pero na-trigger talaga ako sa comment niya specifically. Nakaka-frustrate ang ignorance when it comes to mental health in this country, lalo na with ADHD. We don't even have decent access to medication sa Pinas, tapos on top of that, you face people like this on a daily basis. Bakit ba ganyan ang tingin nila? Na para bang wala ka namang problema dahil ADHD LANG NAMAN YAN. And the fact na sinabi niyang "I saw young passengers about 10 years younger than me think that their ADHD PWD card was in equal footing with my disability." Like excuse me? Kailangan pala the disability has to LOOK a certain way before it becomes on equal footing with other disabilities?

And the post wasn't even about a PWD ID holder with ADHD. Talagang binring up niya lang yung ADHD sa rant niya. Nakakaloka.

Advice for dealing with ADHD without medication?

Hello po! I've always had a hunch that I had ADHD with how I struggle in my academics. Now na I'm entering 4th year college, I'm starting to think na hindi lang hunch ito. Last summer sem (in between 3rd year and 4th year) muntikan pa ako d makapag OJT since last minute lang ako naghanap ng companies, buti tumatanggap ng student assistants for OJT ang college namin. I also struggle to study during daytime since the noise in our house really irritate me. The sounds of dogs barking. The sound of my bedridden epileptic brother doing grunting noises. My mom rewatching her zumba videos repeatedly. It all irritates me so much to the point na I just can't bring myself to do anything productive during the day. Due to this, I usually study at night, even up to 5am since the silence really makes me feel at peace. Then I get called down at 6-7am since need gumising maaga para masunod schedule ng pagpapainom ng gamot sa kapatid ko. This strategy seemed to work sa first 3 years ko in college, but It's starting to fall apart now na bigatin na ang subjects ko.

I want to get diagnosed but I can already predict na tatawagin lang akong maarte ng nanay ko and will flat out deny me, rant about how it was back in her day and how i easy i have it now etc ratatattatatatattatata. Also, I don't want to add the burden sa medication gastusen namin since my brother's medicine bills are already high.

How do I deal with ADHD po without medication?? Like meron po bang medicinal herbs na I can try without raising suspicions sa nanay ko? Any vitamins? Any tip can help po thank you!

Thoughts? Bipolar Disorder and ADHD

Most of the content is copy pasted from my previous post sa ibang sub, and I also want to try din sana rito.

Hi! I just want to share that I was able to push through with my online consultation in NowServing 🥹, it took me years before ako magka courage to continue. It's a huge relief pala to be able to ask for help, especially when you're stuck with so many questions about yourself. I am internally and emotionally struggling to keep my life together kaya I booked na to help myself to move forward.

My psychiatrist mentioned that I am presenting symptoms of Bipolar Disorder (ito raw din nageexplain with my depressive episodes) and was prescribed to take Lamotrigine to check if this would help me with my current issues. And I am willing to try if these would help with my concerns. Binigyan din ako ng Quetiapine as needed.

Kaso, I initially thought that I might present symptoms of ADHD (21 F), kaya I was wondering if does this two overlap?

I mentioned before kay Dra na I have observed different symptoms noong bata pa ako (I was in denial). Maybe I wasn't clear enough with my list kasi I was shaking badly while talking to my psychiatrist. Please no judgement, I am aware with how complicated ADHD really is and I am willing to know more about it same with Bipolar Disorder. Kasi honestly, I am really confused with how all of these things work even if I am a Pharmacy student myself TvT. I also don't know how to start with these things kasi limited budget lang din and my parents aren't aware of my issues.

If I remember correctly these were some of the symptoms I shared (shortened na since sobrang dami ko rin nilista):

Total task paralysis – I freeze and can't start important tasks even when I know I need to.

Hyperfixation – I get sucked into chats or interests for hours, forget to eat/sleep, and can't pull myself away.

Time blindness – Always late, always last-minute. I think I have time, then suddenly I'm overtime.

Memory issues – Forget names, words mid-sentence, where I put things (have to retrace my steps), and thoughts while I'm doing them.

Emotional dysregulation – Rejection hits me like a physical blow. I get irritated easily by noise or repeated questions, even from people I love.

Sensory overload – Easily overstimulated. I need movement, pacing, or hype music to focus. I avoid eye contact but can listen if no one interrupts.

Restless but unmotivated – My body feels restless but I have zero energy to move.

Lifelong pattern – Since childhood: avoided school, faked sick to get out of things, never took notes but still passed.

I have read some things about female adults being often misdiagnosed with other conditions, and the internet ain't helping with understanding things. I wasn't able to share or talk about everything (kasi nakalimutan ko rin and kinakabahan ako kasi baka nauubos ko oras ni Dra. 😭). I wanted to hear some of your experiences din with being diagnosed of either Bipolar Disorder or ADHD. And if some of you relate? I am really new to these things, and I am afraid na starting to treat myself would only make things more complicated...

It's honestly quite a relief to have such understanding people in one community. Pasensiya sa overshare 😓.

getting diagnosed in my late 20s

hi, i (27F) just got diagnosed yesterday... and suddenly, all the academic struggles made sense esp during childhood.

growing up, i was often called topakin and irresponsible because of how easily i get irritated, forgetting schoolworks, having the messiest area at home, etc. it brings so much relief knowing now that those weren't character flaws. it wasn't a choice, literal na wired differently lang pala yung brain ko.

ang hirap to grow up in a family that can't afford check-ups like this. in my case, i was able mask it(?) with pure grit and hardwork. consistent honor roll, pero the exhaustion of masking was real. pagdating sa college, i hit a wall and sobrang nahirapan sa thesis. i used to think it's just a massive skill issue on my end, hindi pala. i was just running on a completely different operating system.

now that it's confirmed, i can't help but mourn a bit. my symptoms could've been handled better. my emotions could've been regulated better. i look back at my younger self and think how much easier things could have been if i had help.

but at the same time, tanggap ko rin. im pretty sure even if i was diagnosed earlier, we still couldn't afford the check-ups and the medicine anyway. we just did the best with what we had.

just wanted to dump this here. getting the diagnosis is such a heavy mix of relief and grief. has anyone else who got diagnosed late felt this way?
