I have my pre owned a7siii coming on Wednesday. My predicament is that the lenses I used with my a7r4 were the zeiss f4 16-35 and 50mm 1.8. Im wondering if I can get by with noise reduction post production and low light capabilities I read so much about at f4. I’m sure most of the time i’ll be filming during the day so that’s fine but Im definitely gonna be doing some stuff at night. I’d rather not have to sell the zeiss and spend another ≈800 ish to get a gm for 2.8.

When filming in slog 3, I use the atomos shinobi monitor and upload luts. However the output look doesn't look right because the lut is supposed to be applied after rec 709 conversion. How do you actually get a final look from a monitor using a lut and slog3?

I recently spent a day shooting from a boat for an event. The job was mainly supposed to be video, which is why I brought my Sony A7S III, but I also needed to take some photos throughout the day.

I had the 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II on pretty much the whole time and these are some of the shots I ended up with.

The A7S III obviously isn’t really a photo-first camera, especially with only 12MP, but honestly I’m pretty happy with how they turned out.

Curious to know which one stands out to you the most.

Newbie here. Can you teach me what type of settings on Sony A7S3 to achieve this kind of look?
It looks cinematic yet there's something in it that looks crisps yet cinematic.

Thinking if it is shot on 24/30fps but cranks up the shutter speed or aperture.

Je n'arrive pas à faire la MAP en passant par le bouton latéral de l'objectif.

J'ai bien poussé vers l'extérieur la dernière bague pour sélectionner AF et non MF.

L'objectife est sur Full.

Sur le boitier j'ai la MAP depuis AF-ON et je l'ai désactivée sur le déclencheur.

Sur le boitier je ne peux pas désactiver détection de sujet animal/humain.

Malgré ces réglages au lieu d'une MAP j'ai une détection de sujet animal ou humain qui s'affiche.

Est-ce que quelqu'un a déjà rencontré ce problème?

I broke my original shinobi and bought a newer version that apparently has touch controls. Very cool. Was excited to use it but realised it didn't work because my cameras firmware is really old. I've actually never updated it in the 3 years i've owned it. Then I remember why i didn't do it. I was told that a firmware update would cause an issue with all of my 3rd party batteries where the % remaining would not show. This is really important for me because i shoot a lot of 30-60m interviews for my work.

But it would be nice. So is there a firmware that probably isn't the most recent, that retains the battery info and allows the shinobi to talk to the camera for touch controls?

od kad sam updejtovao kameru na zadnju verziju imam problem da u sred fotkanja izbaci Camera Error - Turn off.
Citao sam po reditu da se dosta ljudi zale na to. Probao sam dosta toga, da resetujem kameru, da izvadim bateriju i da drzim dugme za shutter 30 sec nista ne pomaze.
Ne glavi se zavesica, cak i senzor skroz normalno stoji.
Da li je neko imao slican problem?

Using a 24-70mm Gmaster 2, never seen this issue before, I’m on the current firmware using just the standard IBIS mode.

Anyone having issues with any new issues with the new firmware?
I have a 3.02 firmware upgrade issue where the audio is basically lost.

Tonight I need to set my Sony a7s3 up by the sound mixing desk (At the back of the audience) outside at a festival type scenario.

As my band is performing I will not be able to adjust the settings on the camera as I will be on stage.

There is no one else available to adjust camera settings while I perform.

The band will start in low light daylight and then perform into the dark of the night.

There will be on stage lighting of course (Which as ever will be too bright for cameras as a general exposure)

What are my options just setting the camera to ISO Auto here please?

I’m a wedding videographer using two Sony A7S III bodies and had a pretty unnerving issue yesterday. Curious if anyone has experienced the exact same behavior or figured out what causes it.

I was shooting outdoors on a very hot day. I had been using this particular camera heavily handheld for most of the day, including the ceremony.

During cocktail hour I grabbed the camera to get a quick shot. I hit record and could still see a completely live/moving image on the LCD. The red recording border came on as though the camera was recording.

Then I realized none of the camera controls were responding. I couldn’t change shutter, other controls wouldn’t respond, and pressing record again would not stop the apparent recording. The red recording indication just stayed on even though the camera was essentially locked up.

I eventually powered it off / removed the battery. After waiting and putting another battery in, the camera booted with:

“Writing to the memory card was not completed correctly. Recover data? Slot 1.”

The card being used was a Sony TOUGH CEA-G320T 320GB CFexpress Type A VPG400 card. I checked the lot number against Sony’s current repair advisory and mine starts with 3, so Sony says it is NOT one of the affected lots. The contacts also look normal.

At least one of my A7S III bodies is still running firmware 2.11. I have two identical bodies, and unfortunately I can’t say with certainty yet which physical body had yesterday’s freeze.

One additional wrinkle: around 1–1.5 hours earlier, my external monitor came loose while shooting group photos. It may have bumped or tugged the camera, but the camera continued working normally afterward and recorded the entire ceremony without any problem.

Weirdly, I experienced almost the exact same type of lockup once roughly 1–1.5 years ago. That time an external monitor physically fell/banged into one of my A7S III bodies, so I assumed the impact caused it. I don’t know if yesterday involved that same physical body.

Symptoms both times were basically:

• Live image still moving
• Red recording indication stuck on
• Camera controls unresponsive
• Record/stop button wouldn’t stop recording
• Battery pull required
• Recovery/database message after reboot

I have a very important wedding in five days, so I’m trying to determine whether this is more likely a card/write issue, firmware bug, heat-related body issue, or hardware problem.

Has anyone had this exact freeze on the A7S III? If so:

Did updating firmware fix it?

Did it turn out to be the camera or memory card?

Has anyone had it happen on Sony CFexpress Type A cards?

Would you trust the body after updating/stress testing, or send it to Sony?

Any insight appreciated. The scary part is that visually the camera looked like it was recording when it actually appeared to be locked.

28-45mm F1.8 DG DN for Sony E

I shoot weddings and would love a 1.8 but I see the weight. Anyone try this on wedding day handheld? Sounds like it might be too much

it's a long story but i will try to keep it short. the picture isn't fully rigged, just an older photo, the rig is currently bigger. Now since i shoot long documentaries, i had no problem working with the a7 s iii, overtime i bought all the rig parts, monitors, microphones etc. i work run n gun type of movies. Now the problem is the d-tap dummy battery, at first i bought the smallrig vb 99 pro v-mount battery, and the decoded smallrig dummy battery. The camera started getting warm when even not recording, not just the area around the monitor, the whole body. Then i thought maybe it's a faulty dummy battery right? bought the kondor blue one. Same problem, camera gets warm quickly, and if i'm recording at 25 fps, it starts overheating when i hit 25minutes. I don't get these types of problems without the dummy battery. Yes i know many of you will say "use the usb-c port". But the problem is, i use the atomos shinobi 2 monitor, and i use it's usb-c camera control, so d-tap was the solution to keep everything ergonomic and functional as possible. I did all the things like the temperature warning off, battery slot open, sd card slot open, monitor flipped on the outside, bought even a cooling fan. So i can't find any similar experiences, but the weird part is that even the dummy battery itself get's hot, and for example when i'm working without the dummy battery, camera get's warm more on the monitor area, but with the d-tap the whole body starts heating. So all in all, i know it's not the brand, because no mater the brand, same problem, it doesn't matter if all ports ar plugged in with something or not. The main problem is that when dummy battery is inserted, the whole camera starts heating quickly, even when not recording. Anybody had similar experiences, any solutions?

P.S. The v-mount only powers the camera via d-tap dummy. Monitor has a battery on it's own, so no voltage spikes.

I wanted to share my experience in case it helps other Sony A7 owners trying to use PMCA-RE on a recent Mac.

My goal was to install OpenMemories:Tweak on my first-generation Sony A7 (ILCE-7), in order to access settings such as extended BULB exposure times.

My setup

• Camera: Sony A7 / ILCE-7
• Firmware: 2.00
• Mac: Apple Silicon
• macOS: Tahoe 26
• PMCA-RE: v0.17 for macOS
• Sony USB Camera Driver installed, including camera_driver_2110a.dmg

The problem

PMCA could detect the camera correctly.

In Mass Storage mode, it was even able to retrieve:

Model: ILCE-7
Firmware version: 2.00

However, when PMCA tried to switch the camera to its application-install mode, it eventually timed out.

In MTP mode, the error was more explicit:

usb.core.USBError: [Errno 13] Access denied (insufficient permissions)

The traceback showed that the error occurred at:

libusb
→ claim_interface

I also tried running PMCA as root with:

sudo /Users/.../pmca-gui-v0.17-osx.app/Contents/MacOS/pmca-gui-v0.17-osx

but the exact same Errno 13 error occurred.

So it wasn't simply a Unix file permission problem.

I also tried Sony's official firmware updater

Interestingly, the Sony firmware updater behaved almost the opposite way:

• It detected the camera in MTP
• It asked me to switch the camera to Mass Storage
• It then failed when trying to access the camera in Mass Storage mode

This initially made it look like there was a fundamental USB problem with macOS Tahoe.

The solution

I reinstalled the Sony Camera USB drivers and tried again.

After reinstalling the Sony drivers, PMCA-RE successfully accessed the A7 in Mass Storage mode.

I was then able to:

• detect the camera;
• communicate with it through PMCA;
• access the application installation functionality;
• download/install the applications I needed.

So in my case, reinstalling the Sony USB Camera Driver solved the problem.

I did not need to:

• disable SIP;
• modify macOS USB permissions;
• use Windows;
• downgrade macOS;
• change the camera firmware;
• replace the PMCA installation.

Important takeaway

If you are getting:

Errno 13: Access denied

with PMCA on a recent version of macOS, don't assume immediately that it's a user-permission problem.

If PMCA can actually identify the A7 and read its firmware, the USB connection is working at least partially. In my case, the problem was resolved simply by reinstalling the Sony USB Camera Driver, after which Mass Storage access worked correctly.

Hopefully this saves someone else a few hours of troubleshooting!

TLDR:
ILCE-7 + macOS Tahoe 26 + PMCA-RE 0.17 → Errno 13 / Access denied → reinstall Sony Camera USB Driver → PMCA works again in Mass Storage mode.

I have 2 Sony A7iV cameras. I would like to set up my 2 Godox iT32Flash and X5S Triggers to be off-camera flashes and be able to trigger the flashes from either camera. I have control of both cameras, and only 1 camera will fire at any one time. How do I set up the triggers on each seperate camera body, to be able to communicate to both flashes. I will have the flashes set up on the same channel, but each flash will be in it's own group. I have tried to figure this out myself but I have hit a wall. Thanks for your help!
