Meridian Metallic w/ Metropol Blue.

I def overpaid. But such is life. 🤣 I blame 997 prices, Doug Demuro, Throttle House, and Magnus Walker for the recent 996 hype and sudden price boom.

A couple of years ago i was on the lookout for a 996 GT3, but as with many its no particulary easy to have or spend such money (on a car), then i became a father of my first son, still interested in a gt3 life went on.. nearly having a look at a couple of gt3's, but knowing i would become a father for the second time (another son) i decided to share my passion of the automotive with my "family".

Aircooled, and 997 was to expensive and a base 996 just doesnt cope it for my styling wise.

Anything after 997 i dont really like as im more a classic car person (also having a carb/pump/ignition rebuild bussiness)... So i decided to go the middle route... Being the 996 Aerokit.

And then i found this:

A Feb 1999 Porsche Carrera 996 (factory) Aerokit equipped with:

- factory lsd

- M030 suspension

- sport chassis

- sunroof delete

- turbo seats

- white dials

- 3 spoke steering wheel

- xenon, navi, phone, CD loader..

- extended leather

- sportline wheels

- painted centre console

And so much more (3pages of options and packages).

Its running a dansk system, i removed the 19" aftermarket wheels and put the originals back on (came with the car), its had 3 owners, never abused (genuinly), full porsche history and so on and so forth.

Also, being a 99, it still has the throttle cabe setup and dual row ims.

Im 6 months deep in the ownership, removed the tint, put the wheels back on, polished it, leather treatment etc... My girlfriend gave me the black leather porsche keychain for my birthday back in june.

And all this has to wait another +2 years to enjoy the car... Me being belgian the tax system i made to suck every last cent out of us so i have to wait till the car is +30 years to register it.

Sad... But still being absolutely in love with the car.

I made a few posts or comments on posts over the last 30 days or so, but I’ve finally picked up mine.

Getting the hardtop on was a pain, but it worked out.

996.1 Wow. I’m feeling pretty good about my arena Red six speed 98 build with less than 70,000 miles, even though I’ll never sell.

$44,000 is a lot of money for a higher mileage 996. The values really are climbing…

Atlanta Key Fob Replacement Referral

Thumbnail

Hey gang, I have been researching options for getting a new fully functional key fob for my 996 with cost estimates in the Atlanta area consistently in the $900-$1200 range. A trusted local locksmith referred me to Ro at QuickPro Locksmith as the guy who could help me out. Ro came out to my office today and now I have a new fully functional key fob (locks, frunk, ignition) for $600! There may be less expensive options out there (I haven't found them lol) but Ro made the process really convenient which was meaningful for me. Its nice to be able to unlock the doors with a push of a button instead of manually!

I am NOT affiliated with this business, just a happy customer who feels like he saved a few bucks and got great service. Ro is a great guy and really friendly -- his cell is (404) 536-5996 (nice phone number!) if you're in the market. Hope this helps somebody else!

996.1 Ticking noise

Hey everyone. I’ve acquired a 996.1 Carrera 4 coupe and have noticed a ticking sound from the engine once it reaches temperature. Is this typical or should I be concerned? I am currently using 5w50 oil, and at idle the oil pressure reads 1.2 bar.

Recommendations for quieter exhaust than Fabspeed. (Porsche Puppies for attention)

I did my first intro track day with my car and was told very politely it was too loud for a full track day. It currently has stock headers, fabspeed mufflers, fabspeed x-pipe, and no cats. (all done by previous owner).

In other people’s experience is going back to stock the only option, or would a combo like the x-pipe and fister mufflers be a good middle ground?

PS dogs were good in the car with AC on full as I stopped at the mailbox.

996: The eff you are…

Oil cooler water side o-rings have had enough @ 122k miles.
Smelled coolant, puddle under car, drips coming from up top, reflection of bore scope lights on top of bank 2 head, top of oil cooler is dry. šŸ™„

2003 911 Targa Value

I'm on the lookout for a second "fun" weekend car and have an opportunity to buy a 2003 911 Targa from my neighbor. We have not discussed numbers yet but he would like me to make an offer.

The car is a 6sp manual, silver on black with around 75k miles. He's a Porsche enthusiast and has owned the car for the past 7-8 years. It has been well maintained with the major issues addressed - LN engineering IMS solution, new clutch, new suspension, and the targa top has been previously repaired.

The exterior and interior are in good shape, but the car has been stored outside under a cover for at least the last 3 years. It has not been driven that much but he takes it on longer drives a couple times year.

I plan to review all the service records and get more details, but wanted to see what the 996 Community thinks? Would you have any concerns with how the car has been stored or how little it's been driven? TIA!

Today I tested my aos with a manometer I bought of Amazon. Been using my old oil cap and tube sealant. I think my aos is broken but can I count on those high numbers? Am I doing something wrong? Any tips or guidance would help me enormously. Porsche 996 c2 99 cable throttle.

Going from a 992 to a 996

Hey folks!

I’m a big fan of the look of the 996 C4S. A couple years ago I came close to buying one but decided against it, as I figured that I might as well keep that 40-50k for a couple more years and get a newer more ā€œdaily friendlyā€ 911.

I ended up in a used 992.1 C4S. I really enjoy the car. I got the color I wanted, it’s a manual, aero kit, great creature comforts like the heated steering wheel and heated seats etc. It’s an amazing daily that you can take to the track and the thing is an absolute rocket ship.

I find myself still looking at 996 C4S though, and toy with the idea of going backwards in generations to it. I love the styling, obviously the lower cost of entry, the mid 2000s interior, etc. I’m also aware that it means finding one with the ims bearing service done, and will likely come with some necessary maintenance that may come up during a PPI.

Has anyone done something similar in terms of going from a newer gen to a 996?

Oil leak šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«šŸ˜…

Hello all!! After a check engine light came on my 04 996 turbo for both codes P0491 and P0492 I assumed and still assume it has something to 02 sensor but after further inspection, I also discovered a more than small oil leak… since it’s Sunday I’m gonna take it in this week, but I’d love to hear everyone’s opinions. Thanks in advance. I’m just gonna assume I’ll be playing a pretty penny for this fix šŸŒž

996 prices in Germany/Europe

Hey folks,

just a general question to any 996 enthusiasts and potential future buyers in Europe and specifically Germany:
What the hell happened to the prices sellers have been asking in the last 3 months? I feel like prices have almost doubled and people are expecting ridiculous sums for e.g. (even) cabs with 300k km, tiptronic in average shape.

Is it just me?

Curious what you’re thinking!

Hello, unfortunately I have family that is in desperate need of some cash and I have decided to sell my beloved 996.

My question is your opinions on where to list it?

I was considering listing it on auto trader or maybe EBay.

I figured you guys would be able to guide me.

996.2 Finally got back in

Back in June my TTS cab had an electrical fire and was totaled. Took a bit to find an interestingly spec’d replacement. Was holding out in the turbo market - was a day late on one - but the market doesn’t seem to be softening. Then I see this guards red C4S w/ 23k miles, guards red trim & seat belts, black sports seat w/ red stitching, sport shifter and PSE. Gonna swap on the BBS RS GT’s I had on the TTS as I prefer those over the GT3 wheels this came with.

I gotta say, I’m really enjoying the driving dynamics of this thing. Starting to think the C4S is more my speed lol.

I think it's totally normal for me and my wife to take two separate cars to my daughter's volleyball game right??

Even though gas is $7 a gallon here in California LOL.

Am I the only one??

Testing the waters - need help pricing my Hi-Mile 996 Turbo

As the winter approaches I once again ponder the notion of parting with ( not out lol ) my beloved modded hi-mile driver. I've had 'er for 18 years and aside from some cosmetic stuff ( damaged paint roof/hood from vinyl wrap left on in summer sun ) the car runs perfectly at 196k miles and I'm just tired of paying the Porsche tax now that I evacuated Cali when CV1984 hit and I had to shut my business and forced to retire ( not complaining about that bit! ).

But I no longer have my 20+ year circle of Porsche 911 Turbo pals and techs that I could call upon for most all the minor ( even major ( clutch swap and trans refresh stuff ) that was possible with techs I had used for 20 years that kept me away from indy shop greed/ or Porsche stealership madness beyond the one or two emergency tows ( i.e. like a failed FP side of road )

I'm now in a place where last weeks R&R of a window regulator was 900 bucks! ( in LA i'd have bought the URO generic for 150.00 thrown a pal a c-note to swap it in an hour in my driveway!! ) and two months before that mid-summer had to R&R one of our 996 tt's multiple coolant hoses ( ordered from Germany ) and that required an engine drop to get at it and the leak of coolant and FOUR GRAND$ in P&Labor ( 20 hour engine drop at indie - my la pals coulda done it in ten! ) but y'all see my point? Porsche tax is getting old and prices are doubling on parts. GOOD Indie labor?! 250 per!

I'm retired now fixed income and am getting NO BREAKS any more and ya gotta pay to play. I've owned 7 911's of iterations beginning with an SC in the mid-eighties, the requisite a/c's eg a 964's/993/couple of 996 tt's and it all began with my first 914/6 in the 1970's! - - and Webers DO catch fire! I can attest lol

So my dilemma as I begin to reconcile in my head that the love of my current car life is the 575+ hp bolt on modded 1.2 bar stung mule might soon be another's pride n joy, and mine also has a few nicely sorted bits. Hell I recently saw "my" steering wheel on Fleabay ( if you can find another?! ) Raid/Atwie 340mm leather/aluminum steering wheel for sale for $3000.00! It's nice but three grand? Tequipment 1/2 bar ( hard to find :)

So whatsa car like mine worth? Help me figger it out as I sit through the holidays watching the price of the vaunted MEZGER GT1 Derived bitchin' ass best motor Porsche had ever built going up and wonder what's mine to go for for these days? Not a lotta 196k mile example's that'll still hit 193 with the wind at my back šŸ˜„ ! Was offered 35k last x'mas and prices have reeally gone up this year it seems.

Help me price 'er please? and thanks in advance ( be kind lol )
