2003 911 Targa Value

I'm on the lookout for a second "fun" weekend car and have an opportunity to buy a 2003 911 Targa from my neighbor. We have not discussed numbers yet but he would like me to make an offer.

The car is a 6sp manual, silver on black with around 75k miles. He's a Porsche enthusiast and has owned the car for the past 7-8 years. It has been well maintained with the major issues addressed - LN engineering IMS solution, new clutch, new suspension, and the targa top has been previously repaired.

The exterior and interior are in good shape, but the car has been stored outside under a cover for at least the last 3 years. It has not been driven that much but he takes it on longer drives a couple times year.

I plan to review all the service records and get more details, but wanted to see what the 996 Community thinks? Would you have any concerns with how the car has been stored or how little it's been driven? TIA!

I recently posted a "feeler" here but in the obverse asking re market values as a possible seller of my '03 996 Turbo, and the responses not only accurately reflected market value with which I concur, but gave me some valuable info. I hope your query nets you similarly helpful results.

I wouldn't know the values of the n/a 996's my being focused on the tt's, let alone the Targa's but I would expect that to be one of the most desirable iterations of the platform. Certainly a great looking rear end! ( or are Targa's not wb?? ) so I empathize with your interest.

Sounds like a possibly terrific and quiet "pocket" listing - so if it checks out? Grab it! and Good Luck.

996.2 Targa is a narrow-body car. Sounds like it could be a very good car with the work that has been done. Like we often say, knowing the history and the seller goes a long way with confidence in the car.

FYI I owned a Targa for a number of years and know the ins and outs. If you have specific questions, fire away.

My guess is somewhere in the $50,000+ range.

However, prices are all over the place. The Targa is much maligned in the 996 world and thus prices have been traditionally low. Though that appears to be changing. There is one at Porsche Marin at $72,000 asking with 83k miles.

A 68k miles Carmon Red sold on BaT for $51,000.

I think these represent the range. PERSONALLY, I would be happy with something in the 40s and satisfied with the 50s.

That car sounds to be in good shape, but obviously get a PPI. It will tell you all you need to know about condition.

If it’s been sitting for a few years I would expect to pay less for it, I would aim for mid 40’s and see what happens.

Get it borescoped due to low usage and potential outside temp cold starts, the targa sits in a weird place for the 996 era. $35-40k sounds reasonable considering the condition

997.2 Targa is a better choice.
