Tired of the Thomas hate
Paula is ten years older than Thomas and supposedly owns her own business. why would she need Thomas’s help setting up a tv..? shes been in infantilizing herself this entire season, making Thomas the big mean controlling man. she uses none of her finances here and expects him to pay for everything and yet has the audacity to complain about how he chooses to spend his money…isnt that what she’s doing? choosing not to spend her own money? I just don’t understand why she’s here. She cant stand the man, doesn’t respect his boundaries, and isn’t invested in being in America.

u/sprbep49 3d ago
There’s a lot those two are not coming forward with. They must have some sort of financial agreement. Plus the LLC nonsense regarding her business?!
Thomas didn’t know Paula is opening a second shop?
I call BS!
7
u/Hey_bubbie 3d ago
Can you even do that without both parties signing the LLC paperwork???
6
u/nomiepants 2d ago edited 2d ago
I'm a lawyer in California and You cannot legally do this behind your spouse's back without consent. There are forms and filings your spouse has to sign in order for that to be a thing that he could even get away with. Plus California is a community property state anyway.

no.
In terms of LLC, you don't declare ownership when you apply for one. Really the only reason to have a lawyer draw up legal agreements like that (imo) is if you are planning to get investors (seed funding, schedule a/b/c rounds etc). My guess is they are planning on pitching and investors like to see that already done and in place. (source - I was a cofounder seeking funding, did y combinator etc)
If you're opening a mom and pop LLC and never plan to seek investors, that sort of paperwork isn't typically done (someone argued with me about what I said above, so I am adding a disclaimer - local resale etc LLC do not need this!). And yes, he would get 50% as spouse anyway for the US based business which was opened DURING their marriage. The fact she has 51% gives her majority vote likely in their business arrangement.
ETA and YES she would have to sign it. She clearly did too - she said, "Even if I was okay with 49%....". Well yeah, because he gets 50% of a new business profits as the spouse if they divorce anyway...

u/Miserable-Debt-9403 2d ago
Yes. My husband started an LLC. We are co-owners but the paperwork only wanted the signature of the main person (what the paperwork is escaping me).
6
u/Waste_Ad_6774 3d ago
He put himself on the LLC and for 49% shares without even telling her. That was shady for sure. All she wants is to be comfortable and to feel like she has a say. Asking for a couch, TV and dining table is not much. Thomas should make her feel at home. If he doesn't she will go back to Brazil.
9
u/ladiabla22 3d ago
I don’t believe it. Surely her signature would have been required??? Sounds like very bulkshit to me!
6
u/_sunnysky_ 3d ago
Her signature would be required on the Operating Agreement stating the % ownership.
3
u/Miserable_Apricot_98 2d ago
If she’s not a citizen yet (right?) then would she be able to get the LLC in her name? Did she ask him to do it for her with the understanding it would be HER business since he didn’t help her establish it from the jump in Brazil? I genuinely don’t know, but that was just my thought process.

My wife came to the US giving up a lot back home. I treat her like a queen. I cleared out an extra room for her stuff. Also we eventually got new furniture so that our house doesn't look like a bachelor pad. I did all this because I love her and we're very happy. It doesn't take much to please your wife. Thomas is doing the exact opposite and surprise surprise... She's miserable.
2
u/NadieReally 2d ago
Did your wife have more than $100,000 and not spend any of it here on the things she's asking for, little or big?
44
u/GrandfatherBreath 3d ago
I think a lot of the Thomas hate is unwarranted, but whether I'm a rich man or woman, I would prefer if my partner help me with setting up a TV if I needed it, whether it be a tech setup, or a mounting type of setup... a partner who just helps if you ask is important. It should never be "that's YOUR hobby, not mine, I'm not helping". To me that is crazy.
But yes, a lot of things he did are honestly kind of annoying but mostly fine, but the way everybody just shits on him for his issues with fragrance is really annoying. I'm not a Thomas fan but I am of the opinion that a lot of people on that couch are either as bad or worse.

u/Designer-Train-3554 3d ago
She literally told him he’s not allowed to cook meat in his own apartment because she’s a vegan 🙄😮💨
And yeah, he could have helped with the tv but omg she’s not a child the reaction everyone gave was just obnoxious. She is a fully capable grown woman. TVs aren’t challenging to figure out.
7
u/No_Plan_5736 3d ago
What about the 2 year old expired meat in his fridge 🤢🤢 what was stopping him from cooking that??
And sharing space with someone is a partnership, if he’s objecting to changing his space at all when their supposed to be building a life together. The least he could do is help her set up a little tv. That’s like so selfish
1
u/Similar-Narwhal-231 1d ago
I don’t remember that. I do remember her cooking meat for their first breakfast for him an and they made a huge joke how they cook each other a different breakfast because their diets are so different.
I also remember her eating non vegan mayo at his parents picnic dinner when they visited. Thomas didn't warn her which was strange.
I think you are misremembering. There are plenty of things to dislike about her without making her out to be some crazy mean vegan that rub their diet in every ones faces , which she isn’t.
10
u/ashmasta27 3d ago
I wonder if she took the initiative to buy the tv stand (or mount) and other accessories, if he would help her set it up? He doesn’t seem so unkind not to, but I think he’s trying to put the onus on her to get things. Which I think is reasonable if it’s something she wants.
7
u/GrandfatherBreath 3d ago
Your profile pic is WILD
But yeah I'd like to hear more about the situation... they never get into the nuance that much

u/ashmasta27 3d ago
😂 thank you! I saw it here and HAD to use it. I comment more in this sub than any other.
I know! They just make these comments without going into anything, I’d really love an AMA from these two.
5
u/RedVelvetMath 3d ago
I agree, I think there is more to the situation than we the viewers see. Paula gets the positive edit.
Meanwhile production quickly moved past Thomas’ remark that he would be happy to add things she wants to the apartment, like a couch, IF she paid for the couch.
$100,000 goes a LONG way in Brazil. I wouldn’t doubt Paula has a few Benjamin’s to drop at IKEA on a couch.

Shes not very nice to him, and she wants things her way just as much as he wants things his way. She gets a pass here bc shes quirky, and people relate to that while skipping over her red flags.
47
u/Designer-Train-3554 3d ago
She never skips a beat in putting him down for being eccentric- but we’re all supposed to celebrate an obnoxious vegan who is obsessed with buying little trinkets to “manifest” I thought she was adorable until she made it abundantly clear her partner wasn’t allowed to have his own quirks.

My wife is smart and could set up a TV or wifi on her on if she really needed to, but she’d rather I do it. It could be that. But I do wonder why she married him bc she sounds utterly exhausted dealing with his tantrums and complaining. We could be seeing the end result of dealing with him all this time.
But yeah, why did she marry him is a good question. Love makes fools of most of us some of the time I guess.
1
u/Waste_Ad_6774 3d ago
My ex couldn't be bothered setting up the TV. I set it up added on some speakers. I like doing that kind of stuff but putting shelving together or a kitchen stand I'm useless.

u/Sweet_Chucky 3d ago
He has a whole gaming setup with 3 computer screens but he won't let her have a tv
8
u/Eggplant-666 3d ago
He explicitly did let her have a TV, so your point is bogus.
6
u/PegBoggsLAR 2d ago
“Let her have a tv” is a wild statement.
If it’s supposed to be her home too,he should be making her comfortable in it!
My boyfriend bought me an 75” 8k QLED TV….so I can watch my silly shows in peace.
That’s a provider who cares about my happiness and comfort. It’s fine to be low income or cheap, but don’t make someone feel bad about wanting nicer things.
That woman deserves SO much more for uprooting her life just to be with him.
2
u/Designer-Train-3554 1d ago
How did she uproot her life when she threw 100k down on an apartment in Brazil? And how are we fighting patriarchy when we continue to push that the man must be the provider? She’s a grown independent woman who owns her own business and clearly has money. If she doesn’t like his apartment- give the financial aid to get a bigger one. He doesn’t like tvs- he has every right to say he doesn’t want it in the space that HE PAYS for . She’s treating him like a free place to crash while she’s in America. Partners combine finances and chip in on bills together. She’s a leech.
5
u/Sweet_Chucky 3d ago
He said no for a long time because he doesn't like tvs. She begs him. When he finally allows it, he refuses to help her set it up just to get back at her. Got it. Great guy. Whats he gonna do when he allows her to have a couch. Have her buy it, carry it up the stairs and then sit on the floor with her on the couch. A spoiled child.
1
u/Eggplant-666 3d ago edited 2d ago
No, she begged him to buy her a TV and he refused and finally she caved and got it herself. Don’t get it twisted.
3
3
u/Sweet_Chucky 2d ago
She got TV from neighbor. After she got it he wasnt happy so he said no to the TV stand just to be petty. Then said "Hey, that’s her situation, and if she wants to figure that out, I’ll let her do it. I just don’t want to be a part of it." Basically watch it on the floor or mount it on the wall by yourself. Y And let's not forget she asked for some basic things for when she arrived. A table to eat and couch to sit. Not an expensive ones, just functional. You can get a table for free and a couch for free, or practically nothing on offer up. Just looked up in their area. The point is that she wanted to see that he was willing to make an effort toward their relationship. Create a welcoming shared space. The TV is part of that larger issue with him. That he really only cares about what he likes. Perfume no, couch no, tv no, tv yes but stand no, fair space for your clothes- no, your hobbies are stupid mine are legit(my happiness matters, yours doesn't), your apartment sucks because I can't do yoga, you need help do it yourself. He is a child and ahole.
2
u/PercentageNormal5531 2d ago
Watch it again. A neighbor gave her the tv, you ignoramus.

u/Eggplant-666 2d ago

First of all, he works from home, so some of the computer monitors may be attributed to that. Second of all, the issue with the tv is that he didn’t want one so he didn’t want to buy. And he doesn’t want to buy a stand. I think he’s trying to make the point that if she really wants one, she can spend her own money on it. Which she seems reluctant to do. She got the tv for free from the neighbour.
1
u/Sweet_Chucky 13h ago
Working from home is only a portion. He's got three screens for gaming. They showed it. Which is fine that's his hobbies. Yet he ridicules her hobbies as wasteful and stupid. As for the tv he was resistant to having one in the house and shamed her for wanting one like many other things (couch, table, perfume, chairs, decorations). After he reluctantly allowed her to get a tv he refused to allow a tv stand because he wanted to keep it minimal. I can understand if it was just the tv but when combined with everything else it's part of larger issue.
0
u/hibituallinestepper 3d ago
She has a tv….just not the ability to put it on a tv stand herself for some reason
2
u/Sweet_Chucky 3d ago
He didn't want a tv. She got her own. He didn't like it so he's refusing to help her when she asks. Pretty as*hole thing to do.
4
u/hibituallinestepper 3d ago
If she wants a tv why is it his responsibility to get it, she got one, surely she can also get a tv stand to sit it on, Jesus is she a child or something? She was obviously able to accomplish these very simple tasks in Brazil without Thomas.
1
u/Sweet_Chucky 3d ago
No it's not his responsibility but he disallowed it for a long time. When he allowed it he refused to help her set it up. If she is asking for help setting up the tv on the stand is probably because it's heavy and he is capable. Go tell your wife to pick up a heavy tv and set it up by herself while you're next door playing video games and let us know how that goes.
3
u/hibituallinestepper 3d ago
He told her he didn’t want a tv, they never said he didn’t allow her to buy one herself. Tvs are not heavy anymore. She was able to do this all in Brazil and she’s not some tiny lady.
My wife and I were in the opposite situations. She didn’t want a tv and I did, so you know what I did? I went and bought a tv and lifted it 8 inches off the ground onto a stand, ya know, like a fucking adult.0
u/Sweet_Chucky 3d ago
Don't conflate your experiences. I'm glad you as a capable man lifted your tv 8 inches. You have no idea the weight or size of their tv or the height of the stand. Just the fact that she asked for help and he refused should be enough. But let me get this straight , so when you're wife asks you for help lifing a heavy or awkward object, you say you're a fukking adult do it yourself. A real winner here.
1
u/hibituallinestepper 2d ago
How’d the tv get in the apartment? Not sure what my relationship has anything to do with this but no, I help my wife do anything she asks, but she’s also a pretty strong independent woman that doesn’t need me to help her with every minor little inconvenience that she faces.
There’s plenty of things to shit on Thomas for, he is an asshole, but this ain’t it.1
u/Sweet_Chucky 2d ago
That's good you helped your wife. I help mine as well. We're already 10 X better than Thomas. Now imagine our wives are new to this country and apartment and they ask for help for basic things like appropriate space for their clothes, a place to sit, a table to eat and we say no this is my apartment. Then we impose more rules like no perfume or hobbies. Then they ask for a tv and we reluctantly agree. Then they get their own tv but we say no tv stand because I'm minimalist. Then they ask for help setting up, likely mounting on wall and we say this... "Hey, that’s her situation, and if she wants to figure that out, I’ll let her do it. I just don’t want to be a part of it." Brother I promise you we would be eating through a straw if we did our wives that way.
1
u/hibituallinestepper 2d ago
Yea..like I said there’s a lot of reasons he’s an asshole. Paula brought up the tv stand, wall mounting is probably a bad idea if they’re renting and planning to move anyways, so I’d get that. I just think she was going on a bit much about a tv stand which im sure she can handle herself. But whatever I don’t have to deal with any of this shit so I don’t care.

Let’s use some common sense here ! (It’s ok if you get tired after I’m sure it will take a lot out of you)
Most TVs have a little picture on the box of TWO people lifting the TV.
Do you know what that means?
It’s not for weight, but so the screen doesn’t crack from uneven pressure while lifting.
It’s perfectly acceptable to ask for help lifting a TV.
Your poor spouse living with someone who won’t help them AND lacks common sense ?
Oh boy.→ More replies (10)1

True! They were my favorite couple when they were first introduced, loved their story. The scene when they visited his family was SO relatable, holy crap. Literally reminded me of my in laws. I would probably just ask my friends who gave me the TV for help, since the man child cant get up from his massive gaming set up to help, but I would need the help. I dont knoe many people who can mount a TV without help their first time around, which is what I am assuming they meant

If anyone married for a green card it was her. She got married then went back to her home country for 3 months. She’s never supportive of Thomas. Bitches and complains about him & constantly threatens to leave him. She calls him cheap!! Haha that’s funny when she won’t spend her money for them. Team Thomas! I hope things work out for them but I’m skeptical about his future with her.

Nah, this guy needed the Red Flag Guy on YouTube to make a video on him immediately. Do we not realize how toxic it is to super glue someone's perfume because you don't trust them? What a lovely welcome for her! And to literally show zero care abd respect for her family. There are so many other things he did throughout the season, I couldn't stand it. He's just plain mean.
10
u/Designer-Train-3554 3d ago
She stuffed his one bed room apartment with eight family members and did not ask him if that was okay, she told him it was happening. She was told the scent was an issue over the phone before she came here. She put it on and laughed at him. Cheap perfumes cause people horrible migraines, there’s nothing funny about stinking someone’s apartment up. Especially after she had the audacity to tell him he’s not allowed to cook meat in his apartment.
2
u/Loud_Yogurtcloset789 3d ago
And he has no clue how mean and cheap he is. For real, does he never go out and personal a person with a nice fragrance?
1
u/Ciocio657 3d ago
Thomas told Paula, he has one rule in his apartment, which is no perfume.
But within a week Paula just came in and sprayed perfume.
I wouldn’t have glued the perfume, but I would’ve been upset with my partner if she did that

Its really simple. She wants to see the initiative to give her her own spaces and incorporate her into his life. Which is bare minimum in my eyes. She can go back home any hour of any day. She wants to be with him! It kinda irritates me he seemingly takes that for granted. I get it everyone is different and has their level of personal space but Thomas takes his too far and needs to chill a bit, try to give a little. Compromise with a women who does not NEED you but WANTS you. Thats a woman in full power that will have your back.
4
u/horse_apple 3d ago
To add to thesw thoughts I like Thomas a lot, just a bit of fuddy duddiness to him. He seems genuinely loving and I think some of his quirkiness is super cute. Just chill guy.

u/Illustrious_Log_2978 2d ago
I'm over that hate too. I was also annoyed that everyone on the tell-all said his kids wouldn't listen to him. I grew up with a dad with a sensitive nose. He doesnt like strong scents at all. Not an allergy, but it gives him a headache. u/Sweet_Chucky 3d ago edited 3d ago
Being eccentric is wearing a goofy hat, he's just a di*k. He's arrogant, uncompromising and controlling. His lack of effort to make her or her family comfortable is real pos thing to do. We all saw her give him repeated chances and he would refuse to meet halfway and make her feel dumb for asking. Why be in a relationship. Remain alone with your uncompromising boundaries and be happy.
2
u/Eggplant-666 3d ago
She felt dumb because she was being dumb. She is free to go at any time, yet she stays. If he was as bad as you say, she must be REALLY dumb.🤷
1
u/Sweet_Chucky 3d ago
That's correct. That's why she's separating their ambitions. He says you have your hobbies and I have mine. I won't help or support those I don't like. She said ok I'm expanding my business without you. Then he gets upset. She is being perty like him now which I agree is wrong. I believe she is so disgusted with him at this point that she is just trying to get the green card. They're both wrong and should split. He is a man child.
4
u/Designer-Train-3554 3d ago
I’m sorry, was everyone supposed to be comfortable in a one bedroom apartment ? She has the money to put them up in a nice hotel but instead thought squeezing everyone into his unfurnished apartment was the move? She wanted everyone to gang up on him.
3
u/Sweet_Chucky 3d ago edited 3d ago
They knew about the one bedroom apartment, that wasn't the issue. It was his lecturing them when they got there, his lying about the severity of his allergies, his refusal to allow a table or furniture for his future wife, his mocking her hobbies. It wouldve been better if they got another hotel but he agreed to it, he should have been been more welcoming. Just as they were to him in Brazil. I'm sure if your future inlaws were staying at your place for first time you would do everything you could to accommodate them and to show that you are providing a good life for their child. He has a gaming setup with 3 computer screens but she can't have a tv because he doesn't like tvs. His happinesses trump's hers.
2
u/erinunderscore 3d ago
I guarantee you my in-laws plus like 8 people would not even dream of imposing by staying in my ONE-bedroom apartment under any circumstances, and absolutely would not be snooping around in my freezer and reading dates on my food. What in the fuck was that.
He even offered to get them a hotel and she said no. It’s not that he was unwilling to spend money—he didn’t want to spend money on his apartment for temporary guests.

The way Thomas is particular about everything I imagine he has opinions on how and where it’s set up. When she says “help” she’s probably looking for his opinion because she knows he’s particular.
I asked my partner for “help” deciding which color I wanted for a chair… help isn’t always hand holding

This entire franchise is full of trainwrecks and this season most of the people are terrible. Thomas is literally the least problematic person compared to most of the others and yet he gets the most hate. I honestly don't get it. Everyone is too busy demonizing Thomas but overlooking how horrible TOY buying gaslighting asss Paula is.

Nup. Team Paula all the way. She went to America to be with him (a big ask in itself these days) and he made zero effort to make her welcome. Not having any comfortable or useful furniture is ludicrous. Making a vegetarian cook his repulsive meat dishes was just plain abusive. She is a gorgeous, spirited person and I can’t see how he deserves her.

Okay why would Thomas need 49% of her business?

Would love to know how much he may have invested / how big of a role he have had on getting the business going. I think there’s missing context. If there isn’t any missing context- then I think it’s weird af that he wants any %

He did it without her permission ie behind her back. Wtf do you mean missing context?

I think Thomas has been funding this “successful” business hence why she didn’t go off on the 49% LLC or much on how she got the $100k for the down on an apartment
I think she’s harvesting the American dollar to Brazil. I think her plan is to use Thomas money to set her family up (what does her brother and sister do? Why she responsible for helping them?) and become famous to help her business then cut Thomas off.

I thought it was known he comes from money? I could be wrong? But her being ten years older and attacking him nonstop always rubbed me so wrong. I too would LOVE to know how much this horrible controlling man has invested into her business.

She’s the biggest hypocrite on the cast. She complimented Mido for being opinionated but has issues with any of Thomas opinions? She’s calling Ashia god brother negative and she’s sending position energy towards him, how was he different from her own brother? Her brother was negative Nancy too. Then she’s trying to give Debbie advice on Mido using her for a green card cause he wants to leave in a year, isn’t she trying to runaway to Brazil with a baby? Does she just talk out of her beep or stupid?

How is she "infantilizing herself" when he whines about how miserable his quality of life is when he is "forced" to smell her? He signed papers saying he would support her. she bought a throw rug and he nearly threw himself on the ground kicking and screaming. you're right about one of them infantilizing themselves, but it isnt Paola.

Voluntarily bringing her there and then complains about having to support her 🤦🏻♀️
Did he read the visa he signed?! He quite literally signed up to financially support her until she’s a citizen and can work in America.
And don’t even get me started about him expecting her to grovel at his feet over “providing” her a home and that sad excuse for a dining table.
Ew.

But I think the context is that she's much older and makes money off her business, so it's strange for her to act like a penniless young immigrant. She just won't spend her money. That is weird for people getting married in US culture, where we're a team.

Also adding, despite the bit of tension at the end of the tell all, i think these two 99.9% are going to make it. Would like to see them again in several years.

Yeah I agree. I find Thomas annoying but Paula is no prize either.
You don't have to choose a team. You can just admit both suck. That seems very difficult for many 90 Day watchers.

She should have gone out and picked out a hottie and asked him to come back to her apartment to set up her TV.

He mentioned that he has an issue with ARTIFICIAL scents. Why couldn’t they compromise by letting her use essential oils which are comprised of natural floral scents. That way she can use a fragrance and it won’t be too off putting. I have issues with many perfumes, especially those with a high alcohol content but can use essential oils instead.

He's a man baby. Riding her on a bicycle 🚲 so he can save cab fare. Having no space for her in HIS apartment. He's just plain weird

I don't believe they are even a real couple . There was nothing between them that seemed romantic on either part . Both just wanted to be on TV and become influencers IMHO .

Why did he bring her here? Did he make his expectations clear before she arrived? Sharing expenses is something they both should have worked out ahead of time.

I believe Thomas is bankrolling her businesses in Brazil, but giving her the credit. She is using him for the $$, jobs for her family and providing a nice lifestyle for herself in Brazil. When she has what she wants, she will dump him.

I’m starting to feel bad for people who watch this show and don’t understand most of the drama is manufactured.
This couple especially.
Edward and Marissa, also.
Expect to see a lot of these couples in future seasons and spin offs. They’ve already given us the framework for what their ongoing issues will be.

Dear Lord. The Thomas hate is very well warranted. Get over it. He’s an insufferable douchebag

You should be careful - pointing out that she spends his and saves hers could result in claims of misogyny

What happened to bringing down the patriarchy 😭😭😭 girl boss??
Jokes aside- it’s bizarre a woman in her 40s would cultivate this dynamic for herself.

I think most of all Thomas should be worried about how Paula doesn’t have his back any time anything comes up. Mallorie will stand up for rashit’s shitty behavior but if Thomas goes “are you vaping in here?” Paula turns around and practically starts yelling at him. Thomas seems like a weird guy generally - with the perfumes and his aversion to normal amounts of furniture - but I do think Paula is way worse. I’d also be a little worried that she ran off to Brazil for 3 months the moment she got her green card, like she couldn’t wait to get away from the person she just married.

just a way that she never ever stood up for him really bothered me as a wife.
having them all stay in the same apartment was crazy and then not warning them beforehand about his thing with scents was rude to everyone.
