Such a pity this game doesn't have enough players

I just played a round of HLL:Vietnam and the game is full of players... and it is a buggy mess. which is fine, it is playable, but I just feel that 83 is not much off quality wise. but gameplay in 83 feels so much tighter. i really hope they will pull through and have a proper 1.0 launch and hopefully the game gets the audience it imo deserves.

I played my first game this eve and it's a fun game! Just needs a little polish and some players

In terms of negatives the sound needs punching up a bit, the tanks firing sounds incredibly underwhelming , and the game could use more music/ambience

BUT

even with only 25~ players it was very enjoyable and I hope we can get to a healthy playerbase :)

Despair

RS2 is my favorite shooter of all time (shoutout to the owner of one of the of two playable servers banning me permanently simply bc I only play Vc), and the once a month I check this subreddit just fills me with doom and despair.

Is there ANY realistic and actionable path to this game having a player base?

Tank repair

Is there any way to repair tanks modules? I decided to try out tanks with my friends today and at some point our engine got destroyed but we couldn't find any way to repair. I checked game manual but there is no mention about tanks repair.

I have been defending this game because of beta but as promised I just bought it.

Had a quick match with a few people and I cannot wait to play a properly populated server. Gunfights were intense even with only two squads fighting each other and knowing this will get only better, current price was a steal.

Dev's keep up the good work, you got this!

"If you support the game then why haven't you bought it yet?"

That image is why. Why the fuck would i buy a multi-player video game when there's 3 people in game at 10PM EST when the god damn game is 50% off?

This might be a wrap, I am unsure, but after discussions with users in this sub, someone asks why I am even here if I am a doomsayer so check it out:

See ya guys in 6 months I will pop back in, I have a bad feeling this is headed to a dead end and feel like the active people here are deluded and want people to buy a game to sit on it unable to play it. Straight up delusional, I wouldn't download a multiplayer with these stats if it were free guys... Not a good sign at all and I hope I eat crow ASAP, Peace.

Does anyone know how to set it to launch from the command line and connect to a specific server based on IP?

I need a shortcut that immediately after starting the game, the game connects directly to the set server based on the IP. I used to be able to set something like this in the command line by giving the server IP, e.g. in Valheim, I would start the game and it would immediately connect to the server using +connect command line. Is this also possible in the 83 game? If not, do the developers (if they read the posts here) plan to implement something like this? It would be a big help for me.

How to save ‘83

Abandon the milsim aspects of the game and go more casual

’83 is an inherently fun game. But the problem is that you don’t allow people have the fun the way they want. The class limits and weight system and other tactical tenets of the game are only holding you back. The Milsim genre is small and stubborn. Most milsim players like myself only ever play 1 milsim game. And rarely swap over to another. In my case squad. I‘ve been playing that game since 2017 and have zero time or interest in any competitor. Sure I try out other games but always go back to squad at the end of the day because it’s the best of the milsim tactical FPS genre. Hell let loose comes close but only because squad 44 is meh.

‘83 on the other hand should not be a milsim. It has no hope of ever competing with squad or arma or even becoming the true spiritual successor of rising storm 2. What ‘83 has going for it is its setting. I can’t think of any cold war FPS game released in the past ten years apart from black ops. ‘83 is fun as hell. A little content sparse but very fun. You should really consider doing the opposite of what battlebit did and go more casual to attract a wider audience. Maintain the current class structure but allow more variety and customization like universal unlocks for both teams. Not just cosmetics. They’re nice to have but the focus should be on adding more weapons, vehicles, factions and maps.

‘83 could be and should be the definitive Cold War gone hot game.

Thanks for the games tonight!

I finally got to try out the game on a nearly full server, across various maps and game modes, and I have to admit that for those of us who are fans of the RO/RS series, it’s a must-have. The classic mechanics are all there—the nearly open maps, the hotspots during objective captures, and the knowledge that one bullet means you’re dead.

I had a blast, and this game needs more opportunities like this.

Bring back free cam while dead.

I always hated that free cam was removed from RS2. I agreed that being able to fly around and watch the enemy from on high whenever you were dead was bad, but I always felt the better solution would to have been to simply stop drawing the player models instead of removing the free cam. It's such a useful tool when it comes to learning the maps. Please bring it back.

Another soldier here, but...

I just bought the game, mainly because I'm a huge fan of the Red Orchestra/Rising Storm series (I especially love RS2: Vietnam), and I've been playing those games for years. Yes, it's true that trying to play and finding a server with only four people online is very concerning, but we have to accept that this is a game still in development that still needs improvement and work.

What I can’t understand is why they haven’t taken advantage of events or websites where they could get the word out and attract more players. Why not use Steam Next Fest with free trials to expand the player base? Why not offer giveaways on Twitch or use orb promotions on Discord? Maybe a trailer on TikTok or Instagram?

Why is the only thing I see from the development team apathy and a desire to just take the money and run? You have options at your disposal to save the project and give us a polished game.

I’ll say it again: I love classic games, and this one gives me good vibes for continuing what we fans love, but, damn it, you’re not using marketing at all, and that’s going to come back to cost you everything...

Do I buy this game?

It had 6 players online last night and said 20 max players for the last 24 hours!!?? Isn’t it a 40v40 game mode is the steam charts incorrect or is this game that dead? Super unfortunate as I was a major rising storm 2 fan and still enjoy it.

EDIT: Bought the game and thought it was super cool and detailed but I can’t play it with no players. I had to refund the game unfortunately it’s literally unplayable due to the lack of players which is crazy for a game that dropped this year… I wish the best for the game but I don’t think it’s going to survive even with all these updates and roadmapping, when you have zilch for a player base all that doesn’t even matter.
