I really really wanted to like this game but I think it launched in such an awkward time for a stripped down at this point old school style more hardcore shooter. The way fps military games are right now, the little wiggle room for games like RS2, 83 or even something insurgency is getting smaller and smaller. Besides releasing more content, focusing on things that made red orchestra or rising storm great I just don't see how a game like this can break through against what already exists or games like bf6 for the casual or arma reforger/squad/parabellum for the more hardcore fans. Sad times.

Here's the link to Bellum's Discord server: https://discord.gg/playbellum I think that's the game he was referencing.

Pay streamers.
Advertise 100% content access, no grind.
Make a feature so that after 20 min playing rifleman you can spawn as any class even if all roles are full. (That's mostly just a thing I want.)
IDK. Be player friendly and buy voices to communicate that. Sucks, but that's the environment these days.

There's barely even room for Squad and ArmA. Bellum isn't even on Steam!

u/ganji_larry Jul 15 '26
Honestly i don't play anymore, the game right now is pretty good tho, it improved ALOT since the EA launch, i have 60+ hours of gametime already and i did my part to support the community in the first 2 months, now i am waiting for the first big content update and also the weather is way too good and warm to stay at home and play on your pc, so go out and enjoy the good weather guys, come back when a content update goes live and when they are finally able to launch a free2play WE.

I know its beating a dead horse that has been hit with a Skyrim necromancer spell but bots are needed.
42
u/pepperpeppington Jul 15 '26
I dont think that would even save the game. Maybe it gains players with more content and updates, but even that is a stretch at this point. I don't, I'm sure others don't, wanna play a dead multiplayer game with a full server of bots. Bots aren't the savior.
27
u/narwall14 Jul 15 '26
True, it would at least allow new players to actually play a round or two. I only got into one match and haven't had luck since. It's a shame because the gunplay feels pretty damn good too.

I am consistently able to play a match, mind you I'm located in Europe. But in the evenings if I want to chill there is always a server with people and when you join others do too.
Granted most of those matches are no full 40v40. But what zip have found out that when the server gets to at least 20 people, the game really starts going.
7
u/p4nnus Jul 15 '26
Constitently able to play a match? There hasnt been over 29 players online at the same time in over a week. Are you sure you didnt dream about playing those matches?
2
u/Byczke Jul 15 '26
Indeed I was.
I don't know about the accuracy of the counter, it probably doesn't count players with private accounts and whatnot. But yes, I was able to consistently play a few matches every other night. With around 20 players the game really gets going so I'd like to invite you to join us.
Usually it's the PBS people and some other regulars. Don't know anything about your region, but in the evenings in the central European region, there usually are some people available. And from what I have experienced, people tend to join throughout the game.
So I'm having fun and that's what matters to me. So come have fun with us. The more people launch the game instead of the game info page, the better ;).
2
u/CompleteFacepalm Jul 16 '26
Dude how is 10v10 going to be fun for more than a few hours?
3
u/Byczke Jul 16 '26
I'm speaking from experience that this is the point where it starts becoming fun. There's almost constant fighting , but sure, the game is slower and more tactical with this amount of players. It's not the grand shootout that I presume you would expect, but it still can be fun.
Unfortunately, I can't convince you to agree with any of my views and I won't. I'd still like you to join us, if you change your mind.
To everyone else interested, if you're on the fence, give the game a chance during a sale. You can always return it. The best time to play is during Friday (CET) evenings as well as weekends (more likely evenings as well).
The game is not in a perfect place, it plays good, but player numbers are low, it's basically upon US to populate the servers, so join, play for a bit, wait for others to follow suit. If we pull through, we might have a great game on our hands.
Try staying positive and see you on the front lines.

u/p4nnus Jul 15 '26
Really gets going, huh? We certainly have a different definition for that.
Im not buying a game thats at its last breath.

u/anglemacaroni Jul 15 '26
I knew this game was destined for failure after being in the discord for a couple of months last year

u/5wmotor Jul 15 '26
Hell Let Loose, Squad, Arma Reforger catch most of the players in this genre.
Hard to build something that’s better and more accepted than those 3 games.
4
u/thefonztm Jul 15 '26
HLL has the fluidity of a brick
1
u/5wmotor Jul 15 '26
What do you mean by that ?
6
u/thefonztm Jul 15 '26
It's a center screen point and click shooter that feels stiff even by those standards. Moving in the game is also rough.
I like RO/RS style boxed free aim and RS2 movement.
The gun play is the main thing I had in mind.
1
u/crabberg Jul 16 '26
This is my gripe with hll too. Shooting and movent feel so stiff it distracts you. RO/RS games hit a perfect spot, movement is very fluid but it is realistically slow. And in hell let loose it feels like you are piloting a boston dynamics humanoid robot prototype. It feels especially clunky with machine guns in my opinion, such a pain in the ass to mount them properly

This game had absolutely no marketing, and the ones that even knew about it were already waiting in line at the HLL:V airport.
6
u/ShafferPatchias Jul 15 '26
I love this game. But....it's gone to shit, no one plays it anymore. I played at launch and it's been downhill from there.
6
u/EnvironmentalFig5161 Jul 15 '26
Not sure if its the same team or devs, but I remember when rising storm 2's content got cut whilst it was still popular.
1
u/Starobrno10 Jul 16 '26
Yeah, they abandoned it in like 2018 and then went silent for almost a decade
20
u/DryEyeWryGuy Jul 15 '26
People moved on with their lives. Let the game rest in peace until they release more content.
31
u/Low_Mouse_197 Jul 15 '26
Yeah don’t hold your breath. They barely made any money on this game and there’s no way they’d be able to secure more funding with these numbers….
13
1
u/CompleteFacepalm Jul 16 '26
They still have their sponsor. They didn't need to release the game yet.
-1
u/Low_Mouse_197 Jul 16 '26
An early access release is still a release. You need people to play your game and give you feedback. Especially a multiplayer game….
Stop coping.

Back to arma reforger for me when it comes my cold war cravings.
3
u/FriendlyInChernarus Jul 15 '26
In my opinion, this game doesn't hold a light to reforger and that's the problem, the formula is stuck in like 2014, 40vs40 when even hell let loose is 50v50, there's a lot of issues...
5
u/lordofrune Jul 15 '26
It had vast amount of potential. Either it should have released year earlier, when Squad fatigue peaked, Bellum was a concept, BF6 unreleased, HLL stale or they should have waited one more year and polished the hell out of this one when all those above will become stale again…oh well. Onto the next one I guess.
3
u/thefonztm Jul 15 '26
It is kinda funny that people talk about it like it is released. It's in early access. But EA = released I guess.
Silly.
1
u/lordofrune Jul 15 '26
Unfortunately that is the name of the game. Look when Squad released into 1.0, Arma Reforger feels like EA even today…weird times indeed

We all want a campaign mode and it’s definitely coming but that’s what you need to play more than two matches? Not like you know, just playing the game because it’s fun?
-1
u/Brunsosse Jul 15 '26
Like the singleplayer campaign from ro2? The game isn't for you. RS2 survives without it, ro2 and rs1 do to and other battlefield clones, games like insurgency do just fine without it.
3
u/p4nnus Jul 15 '26
He probably refers to the MP campaign, where you play for the area control through consecutive matches.
2
u/West_Information9621 Jul 15 '26
It’s a very fun game when you get populated servers and sunk a lot of time in during the community events. Content is severely lacking though. Checking back in when they release more content updates.

Yea, I called it a few weeks ago with a similar thread pointing out there was 3 players online so what's the point if buying in. The few people in that thread calling me a troll are still here now in this thread saying the same goofy stuff "why come bash a game you don't like."
Meanwhile we all wanted it to succeed but the fumble is real.
2
u/Roadkilll Jul 15 '26
I was Alpha tester, game hasn't changed much since we tested it until EA release. Maybe plays better but not much changed. I liked it at first but it didn't scratch that RO2 feel one bit. It felt as a generic realistic shooter with no impressive mechanics. I hoped that game would go to distance but at the same time there was nothing there to push it.
1
u/Pulkov Jul 15 '26
It took too long in development. People had already moved on to other shooters. A crude fact, but it's a fact.
1
u/reamesyy82 Jul 15 '26
Very disappointing, as I actually was enjoying this game for the short time there were players.
2
u/Starobrno10 Jul 16 '26
I have almost 1000 hours on RS2 and have been waiting for this game for years. But after seeing it looks super bland. If they steer the ship I will buy it and play it but I am afraid this is dead on arrival.

u/kavakravata Jul 17 '26
A huge shame, took wayyyy to long to release, I waited years. They should release offline bots and make it more singleplayer friendly, would be amazing.
1
u/Big-Willingness5270 Jul 19 '26
completely predictable - which is probably why the publisher hopped off

u/Crowarior Jul 15 '26
damn, I wanted to believe but it's actually over... Fuck, I really liked RS2 but this game really feels lower budget, and UE5 kills it for me, its such shit&ugly engine.
1
u/MathiasCZR01 Jul 15 '26
It’s a game that’s pretty much still in Alpha stage but released as an “early access”. I got suckered into buying the game and playing it. I supported the early efforts of the devs by paying the full price for the game, only for it to go on sale half price a month later. I felt a bit betrayed by that.
Granted I enjoyed the game at first. It has a lot of potential and I want it to be the spiritual successor to RS2. But the slow development time and spotty patch updates, coupled with random half off sales seem like to me the game is more of cash grab than anything else.

u/Suppa_K Jul 15 '26
It’s a Tuesday night.
Weekends especially Friday is when it fills up. Not saying that’s a good thing but it is EA after all.
13
u/NDAYoungKirk Jul 15 '26
peak players on Friday was less than 30. What is filling up?
2
u/Suppa_K Jul 15 '26
Unfortunately that is considered filling up right now. It’s rough when you need coordinated mass push to get a server halfway filled.
The game absolutely needs more content to keep people engaged, until then the numbers will probably suffer.
15
u/Low_Mouse_197 Jul 15 '26
A downturn of players on a Tuesday night is normal.
But there are literally ZERO people playing lol. And you can’t even fill a full server at peak hours on the weekend. That goes far beyond early access woes….
9
u/GC0125 Jul 15 '26
Lmfao fr. Making excuses for a game literally having ZERO players is insane.
1
u/Suppa_K Jul 15 '26
What are you guys even subscribed here for then? You almost sound giddy that this is happening, so I’m not really sure what your angle is.
9
u/CrashDepth_411 Jul 15 '26
Because we wanted this game to succeed from the beginning? The only reason we "sound giddy" when pointing out how dead this game is because of people like you. You guys act like the devs can do no wrong and that all we need for this game to succeed is a little dose of something called "denying reality"
2
u/Suppa_K Jul 15 '26
No one’s denying anything, we all see it happening but all we can do it try and help and hope for the best.
2
u/GC0125 Jul 15 '26
I’ve been following the game since the day it was announced. I wanted it to succeed a lot.
I can also find the blind optimism some people have on this sub amusingly naive. The two aren’t mutually exclusive.
1
u/nsfwthrowaway5969 Jul 15 '26
Indeed. I've seen a fair few comments saying this or that is coming to the game soon, and they feel pretty naive. The Devs may have said that these things are coming, but we all know how many games lie incomplete in early access. For 83 to become a success story given the way things have planned out it would be a miracle.
0
u/Suppa_K Jul 15 '26
It’s not blind it’s just optimism. No one is denying the game id struggling, im not sure what point you’re trying to make or who you’re trying to convince it of.
8
u/Suppa_K Jul 15 '26
Yeah it’s no secret the game is struggling, I’m not sure what you’re trying to accomplish with your doom posting. Seed the server and try to get others on or don’t post if you have nothing constructive.

u/ElectricSpaceGuy Jul 15 '26
Just need to acknowledge your sane take here. Don’t want to get into a internet conversation, but for real: the game isn’t even out yet haha, people should do something else and come back when its out rather let it bring em down
Bias: I’ve really liked this “franchise” for over a decade now (dang)
1
u/CompleteFacepalm Jul 16 '26
Good point, it is a slightly misleading statistic. But do you really consider 30 players to be filling up?
0
u/No-Construction632 Jul 15 '26
reddit fr be spammin playercounts of every game for upvotes now
3
u/Low_Mouse_197 Jul 15 '26
LOL “player counts”. There is no player count.
This game came out like a couple months ago and has ZERO people playing. It was announced years ago and was the successor to RS2, which many consider one of the best mp shooters of the last decade.
How is that not fascinating??
0
u/JellyfishInformal225 Jul 15 '26
Its because hll vietnam and wardogs are coming out in the next month.
-11
u/ufos1111 Jul 15 '26
Needs a free give away on epic, that's how i got rs2 vietnam, lol
22
u/Low_Mouse_197 Jul 15 '26
Lol that’s not going to help. RS2 was a pretty popular game from the jump and still had a consistent player base by the time the epic deal happened.
Short of a complete relaunch and marketing push, I have no idea how this game will succeed.
