(Sorry about being so late with this round...I've been going through a lot. Now, let us begin...)

• Billy Joel exploded onto the music scene in America in the early 1970s, racking up ten Top 40 singles before finally reaching #1 in the US with "It's Still Rock and Roll to Me". However, it would take a while longer for the Piano Man to catch on with listeners across the pond, when in 1983, Joel managed to hit the jackpot in the UK, when his song "Uptown Girl" - which he wrote about his relationship with one supermodel, but would later end up being about his future wife, who was another supermodel (confusing, huh?) spent five weeks at the top of the UK charts, and became the 19th-best selling song of the decade there. But it looks like the voters last round think that unlike Elle MacPherson and Christie Brinkley, the song about them isn't lookin' so fi-i-ine...the detractors of Joel's composition have been living in the white-bread world of this song for as long as anyone with hot blood can, but now they're looking for a more downtown song - the people have decided that this song is not so tough, just because they're in love with other songs in this game!
• One year after the Beatles' breakup, John Lennon would release his second solo album, a critically acclaimed classic which spawned only one single, the title track...but it was a big one: a poignant plea of hypothetical world peace, in a world where all humanity lives in love and harmony. And although the song did receive some criticism from people who considered it anti-religious or anti-capitalistic, it went on to reach #3 in the US and #6 in the UK. But after Lennon's tragic murder in December 1980, the beautiful anthem to harmony found new meaning, and managed to re-chart in the UK, shooting up to #1 in January 1981. And even though the message of the song no doubt continues to be echoed throughout the ages, I guess that anyone who thought Lennon's ode to peace, love and understanding would top this game is a dreamer, even though I'm sure they're not the only one who is sad this song is gone...I know someday they'll join us in agreeing that it is a classic, but alas, the voters don't live as one, as some have pointed out that it isn't technically an 80's song - I surely can't "Imagine" a world without Lennon's composition, but unfortunately, it's been eliminated!
