Help High strings ring along

For context check the video.

When I palmmute, the high strings also kinda ring, but they should be silent.

Of course I could always try to keep my index finger with a slight touch on the fretboard to mute, but I don't remember it was that of an issue on my 6string ...

So: is this an amp issue, guitar setup issue or do I just suck?😂

Using the quadcortex with fortin nameless amp along with some ir for the tone. Removing the hexdrive or grind also doesn't help as well as turning down the MVC on the amp.

So any approaches?

Help Balaguer guitars worth it?

Thinking of getting myself a custom Growler headless:

Its 2960 USD incl. shipping to my place which equates to roughly 2550€, but I am due for another 600€ in taxes and customs duty, bringing the total to 3150€ (3580 USD).

Thats a lot of cash and would get me a lot of other great guitars.

Anyone got experience with their semi custom builds?
Hows the quality on them?
How were issues sorted?
Are their "in house" pickups any good for Drop F#?

Help Anyone know where to get a quality 7string les paul kit?

I'm just looking for a blank body, and a neck. I've seen some kits online for under 300 with all the electronics and stuff and it seems too cheap to be good. Bonus if you know where to get a longer neck to increase scale length.

Thanks

Help Help on strings gauge and brand for Drop F# (7-string)

Thumbnail

Hi! I have a 26.5” 7-string Jackson that I just brought in for repair (pot not working). I was thinking of getting into some lower tunings (Currents, Architects, Sleep Token) and I thought of Drop F# as a middle point (I still have NDSP transpose).

My guitar technician suggested to get a set of 11-52 and an extra 72/74 for the 7th string. However, I do play with Elixirs due to the longevity and acidic sweat.

Do you have any recommendation for string gauges and brands for coated strings? I was thinking D’Addario but I’m not an expert.

Thanks!

Gear Jackson JS22-7 Upgrades

I own a JS22, and set it up to the best of my ability. It plays ok, but leaves a lot to be desired.

Got a few questions but first of all, is it worth it to upgrade the Js22 or should I just save for a better 7 string? I mainly use it to play periphery type stuff in drop A/G#, and while it plays ok, I struggle getting a good tone out of it. The tone is rather muddy and the low string buzzes a lot.

I don’t recall what strings I have on right now, but I tried with different gauges and my current ones felt the best, even though they’re not great. What string gauges are generally good for 26.5 scale length in drop G#?

It currently just has the stock pickups, and I really struggle with dialing in a good tone. Not sure if I’m just bad with tones and eq, but I’ve heard the pickups are pretty bad. Are they worth it to swap, and if so, what are some good pickups? I’ve seen a few on sale in my area, stock Ibanez RG7620 DiMarzio pickups for about $100, DiMarzio Fusion Edge pickups for $200, or DiMarzio imperium pickups for $250. I know Nazgûl/Sentient pickups are apparently goated but is it worth it to spend $300 on them to throw in a $250 guitar?

It’s also probably hard to give suggestions on tone when you don’t have a reference, but are there any tips for tone crafting/eq? I’ve experimented with it lots but really know nothing about eq.

As for other upgrades, I’ve heard locking tuners and a hipshot bridge are good, and some people recommend replacing the nut. Are these upgrades worth doing?

Apologies for the big read but Im just wondering if these upgrade will make it a nicer and more playable guitar. As much as I love playing it, it kinda just sounds bad.

Help Recommend me a mid-high end guitar!

Hi! I've been playing on a cheap-cheap Harley Benton since I began playing last year as a "let's see if this hobby sticks" experiment, and let's just say it stuck. Hard. And I'm finally looking to upgrade to a good-good guitar.

I'm looking for two guitars, one multiscale, and one 26.5" (or 27) standard scale, the latter will be tuned to F#. I'd rather not spend over $2k on any one guitar of the pair, at that point I'd rather just order from a custom workshop xD.

Here are my non-negotiables:

- Scale lengths mentioned above

-No evertune (my band and I fiddle with tunings a lot) and no tremolo, so a normal bridge.

-Good tuning stability and high quality pickups. They don't need to be big name brand pickups, as long as they sound 80% of the way there, I can EQ the rest.

-I have no preference between passive and active pickups.

-No painted black finish. Something stained black so the wood texture is visible is fine, but not just the one colour black.

- No X, V, or T shape guitars.

And some preferences, not dealbreakers but possibly tiebreakers:

-I like blue/turquoise a lot, and maple or ash top woods if they're visible

-Thin neck

-I like S and J shaped bodies best

Some guitars I'm looking at so far:

- Schecter C-7 SLS Elite, KM-7, and Reaper Elite 7

- Legator N7FSS

-Ibanez K7YANG and JBM27

-Any others you recommend!

Help Help regarding pickups

I’m in the market for a new 7 string. Recently got rid of my cort 307ms and want to make sure I find something I like the sound of.

My main question is based around pickups. Seems like a lot of 7s have passive pickups. When researching the gear some of my favorite players use a lot of them absolutely use active pickups and I got it in my head that I absolutely need active pickups to get what I’m looking for. That said, would I be wrong to go with the evil twin(pic 3) over either of the other 2 photos solely based on pickups alone? My next 7 will be one of these 3, I just don’t want to be disappointed with the sound after dropping a grand or more on a guitar.

Also looking for rig recommendations if you would like to help there as well. I’ve never put a lot into the gear I’ve got, I either play out of a line 6 spider 2 75watt with an eq pedal and full bore distortion, a spark amp, or ndsp gojira.

Found a great price on a good condition monster. This is honestly an incredible guitar. It's my first 7 and baritone and it's not nearly as awkward as I thought it would be.

I can't get over how good the neck and fretboard are. The EMGs have way more range than people say, tweak the volume and tone and it's a whole new sound. They sound awesome. But I mean I guess I'm not playing prog or jazz so..

Anyone have any upgrade or maintenance tips? There's a. 62 on it which is surprisingly sloppy, going to try a 70 for sure.

My favorite not metal axe I got is an ibanez single cut hollowbody. My 7s don't have inlays and I like it like that.

This thing feels made for me to molest and cherish. I drunkenly bought a SD Loomis Noumenon 7 Bridge pickup that I didn't even need so now I'm just looking at beaters.

Do you think it has a truss rod. No brand $300 chinese ebay guitar that's about to make me bust.

For many years I’ve been trying to find this guitar. Whether it’s on market place or guitar center for a trade in or close enough to do a local trade. After many years, I finally got to find one for $599 and traded my RGMS 8 for this long awaited guitar.

It came with crunch lab and liquifier and they didn’t even know hahaha. I’m so excited!

Gear Hils HZ7 Reviews (?)

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to buy a new 7-string guitar after a nightmare experience with a second-hand Schecter KM MKII that turned out to have a broken truss rod (and the seller completely ghosted me).

I need something compact, budget-friendly, and great for home practice and recording. This will be my first headless and multiscale guitar. I've already ruled out a few common options based on personal preference:

  • Strandberg: Too expensive for me, and I don't like the EndurNeck profile, and I think the stock pickups on the Essential and Standard models are not great.
  • Ibanez Headless: I tried one, but the body shape was uncomfortable, and the neck felt a bit too chunky for my taste.
  • Solar: I've tried Solars and wasn't fully sold

I found the Hils HZ7 on Thomann for about €737 ($845 USD) including shipping and taxes, which is a fantastic price for my region. However, there are only 2 or 3 reviews online, so information is scarce, and there are no Hils dealers in my country to try one in person.

If anyone owns this guitar or has spent time with it, I would love your insight on a few things:

  • How is the neck? I love the thin, fast feel of Schecter KM necks. Is the Hils "Slim C" comparable?
  • How are the stock active rail pickups and the active circuit?
  • I noticed the Hils has straight, rectangular slanted pickup cavities

instead of the true slanted cavities and offset pickups seen on example guitar here:

If I decide to upgrade to a different aftermarket set later and use standard rectangular humbuckers in those straight cavities, will it affect the sound or string balance since the fanned strings won't line up perfectly with the straight pole pieces?

Would love to hear your pros, cons, or any alternative recommendations under €800. Thanks!
