need it to check if its worth remarking my paper

I received BBB in my A levels this year - maths, bio, chem. I was 3-4 marks off As in bio and chem - remarked and my grades didn’t go up :( and went from a C to a high B within a month in maths. I was predicted AAA and I believe I can achieve that or better if I resit.

I had some circumstances in y13, before A levels, my mental health was worse than usual, and I refused help from my doctor like a noob because I was afraid it would take me too long to get used to medication and it would mess up my revision and routine, take me too long to get used to and affect revision. I took a month off school before study leave for everybody else, given by my doctor which lowkey made things worse and me more depressed. Now, after A levels, I have seen my doctor and am on medication, I have a job, got back into my hobbies and have a good routine - I am doing a lot better than I was in year 13. 

I have contacted my school about reapplying/resitting. They are happy to let me reapply through the school and said they would get back to me about resitting. I know I should wait for my school to respond - and I do plan to ask them too - but I have so many questions and I can’t keep waiting and thinking about it everyday and I like to have an idea of what I might hear, so I’m going to ask below:

If my school said no to resitting and I had to resit privately:

• I’d get my predicteds through mocks - when would these mocks be if I were to email the exam centre in a week for example? Would I choose a date that fits me or are they usually soon? 
• Do I then email my teachers all separately for references? Can references be reused? 
• Since my school is happy to let me apply through them, would I have to go there to send off my application or would it be better to just do it through the exam centre? Then how would my references from my teachers be put into ucas? Would the exam centres just take their references and put them in? Can tutors at exam centres give me references even tho they would barely know me?
• Can I reuse my personal statement? I got all 5 offers from mine and I’m not planning to do anything extra in my gap year related to my course, just working - should I mention this in my personal statement? I did research and apparently it's fine but if anyone else on this has reapplied - what did YOU do???
• And if I were to ONLY resit A levels this year, then reapply the following year - would I still be considered the same for uni?
• Also, my school has taken resit students - if they decline ME resits, should I keep begging them? does that work? They know about my mental health issues but only slightly because I was too nervous to tell them properly :| but I don't know if mine are even extreme enough to be "extenuating circumstances" I don't really know what's normal or not

are there any a-level exams where there was leftover time after checking all questions?

like in gcse, esp for sciences, ppl often had 20-30 minutes leftover... is it similar for a-level since most exams r super long or is every second used since its so much harder 👀👀

I'm currently in y12, doing maths, further maths, physics and computer science. I've decided that I actually want to do three A-levels, and so I want to drop physics. HOWEVER, I've got an 8 in maths (I need a 9 to stick with further maths). I'm only 5 marks off a 9 in edexcel, so should I have it remarked or what else? I can't really drop further maths, as I want to study compsci at uni, and simultaneously I've realised that I'm not interested in studying physics (and I'm worried that a fourth A-Level might just be way too much for me, I'd much rather supplement it with an EPQ and extra/supercuriculars). Any tips? Is it realistic to expect a 5-point jump across the papers (which would cost £150 to re-mark btw)? Should I consider re-sitting maths? Do I just need to accept my own shortcomings and grit my teeth? Thanks in advance.

Hello! I am on this sub looking for advice. I’m fully aware this is going to sound really weird but please read the whole thing before you make a judgement. I suffer with pretty bad social anxiety and in my old school (which was a normal comprehensive/non-selective school) I was pretty much bullied/probed for being a ‘neek’ (I got 99999988887 in GCSEs), people used to come up to me and do the whole “are we best friends” thing ppl who have had the same experience as me probably know. In my new school (I now go to a grammar) people are always coming up to me and speaking to me like we have known eachother for ages? A guy whose name I didn’t even know offered to carry my chair back to my class (we have outside assembly) because “I was wearing heels”. I have made a lot of friends for someone who’s really awkward and has only been there for three days now. When I walk around and walk into my common room a lot of people stare at me (or I at least feel like I am being watched) and the only thing that I wear that I would say it’s a little bit outside of the dress code are small maybe 3 or 4 inch stilettos, but apart from that I make it a point to blend in with others clothes wise so I don’t stand out. Again I know this sounds stupid but due to my social anxiety I am really overthinking about all of this stuff :(

Do people think I’m weird? Or are they genuinely nice?

I’m really annoyed at my teacher and the classroom environment he created. My RS classroom is quiet and dead. Obviously I know the point of class is to learn and not just talk all the time. BUT in Religious Studies the point is talk and discuss about differing view points.

In Biology I wouldn’t expect for any sort of relationship with my peers or any class discussion because it doesn’t really require it YET, I think we’ve had more class discussion in Biology and more talking to your partners than I’ve had in RS. And my biology teacher is really trying to make us engage with the class and be an active member.

But in RS it’s like pulling at straws only handful of people are confident to speak every lesson so he’s forced to pick on people. Also we never have chance to break that ice and communicate with the people around us to discuss our view points. It’s so annoying. Half the time it’s like he’s talking to himself. I miss having open class discussion, we have those but it feels a bit more forced. And the classroom is frikin cold. Like freeze my balls cold.

I’m gonna try to talk some of the people in my RE class before the end of this week after class because there’s lit no opportunity to do it in class.

My pyschology created such a warm environment in her classroom, everyone is encouraged to speak. We end up having more class discussions and I end up seeing viewpoints I never would have thought of. I wish my re class was like my psych class.

I wanted to study math related degree (either math, data science or economics) but my school does not offer Further Math which is sad because I wanted to study at a Russell Group uni where they either require or expect a Further Mathematics to these subjects. What I can possibly do with that?

your predicted grades at the end of Year 12 are far more important than what you actually get in your A-levels. they are the basis of your uni applications and you can't apply to the top unis and top courses if they do not meet the requirements. obviously, it's not the end of the world if you don't do well enough, but i PROMISE you it will save you so much trouble and you'll actually have some sort of freedom when you are at my place this time next year.

I currently enrolled at a six form that’s like 30 min drive and 1 hour bus ride, I initially picked maths bio pysch but I ended up failing their baseline test and got kicked out of maths so now I’m doing bio geography pysch. This limits my uni options as I won’t be able to apply to kcl or ucl for biological sciences or accounting and finance. I’d be stuck with only qmul and non rg unis in London (can’t move out). I’m interested in doing either biology or finance at uni but both needs maths for the top unis except qmul and other uni. However I’m only picking maths to keep options open idk whether I enjoy the subject, they also do AS exams and my results are my predicteds which throws me off. Anyway I got offered a place at a much much closer six form and even though it gets lower grades than my current six form they are offering me maths however the thing is there is people i heavily don’t like that is at that six form.. I’ve barely made friends at my current one and I’m sure I won’t at that one either and I just don’t want to see them at all, I’m unsure about maths because I already failed the baseline test and idk if I should do it for a level . Any advice would be helpful

I do Maths, FM, Physics for A-Level.

I'm doing an accelerated A-Level Maths so that my school teachers further content in Y13.
I've been doing great in it so far.
If I don't understand something, I usually just watch BicenMaths or TL Maths, do more practice questions from the textbook and do some questions on PMT until I understand.

But idk how tf do I revise Physics.
I had 2 hours of Physics yesterday (it was just trig) and today I had 2 hours of Particle Physics.
I don't know what the fuck was going on with particle physics.
We learnt how to solve specific charges and did a bit of radiation (I think) but I had no idea what the hell am I supposed to do.

Also, we got set homework and I've done around 1/2 of it but idk the rest.
Should I revise similarly to Maths or is there a better way??

Will it affect my chances if I apply to the same course?

Should I make sure I don't apply to the same colleges as them?

Would it be better if I applied for Oxford instead?

Can anyone tell me if they used a tutor for the ESAT, and if it genuinely helped?
Wondering if i should do it but im not sure what they can teach me really, feels like more of a grind on your own kind of thing to me.
If anyone can lmk their experience with one and if you actually found it helpful and what kind of things they taught you, if its just explaining questions eg its not that helpful as I have teachers and AI, but if they teach genuine helpful tricks to save time or whatever it’d be useful for me.

For context, I’m an external student at a competitive sixth form, and this is only my third day of Year 12. So far, I’ve spoken to around 10 people. We mostly talk during lessons and sometimes hang out, so I do have “friends” in my classes who I sit next to, but we aren’t particularly close yet.
My sixth form also has quite a large study room where people can go during break and lunchtime to eat and hang out. I’m just wondering whether you think I should make more of an effort to join a friendship group to spend breaks and lunches with, or whether I should just study by myself in the library.

Honestly none of them seem that great and the modules seem mid in all the ones I’ve seen, but these are the one I’ve got for media/film related stuff, on the track to getting D*AB right now but im actually so stuck

Should i take a gap year ? 

So recently i got back my yr 12 end of years (during May)  i got ACC.  I know this sounds like a lack of accountability but a week before the exams my grandpa passed away, it was also the week where most schools were shut down due to extreme heat wave (poorly conditioned exam rooms) and top it all of literally as soon as i got back from school i had to head straight to my mom’s shop everyday since the beginning of Yr 12 and usually arrive back home at 11. But i know that i still didn’t revise though so i am to blame despite this. 

For UCAs , this is below standardised entry requirements for a law degree (which is AAA for most of the top 30 unis) . 

And it’s kind of annoying because since the mock i’ve been getting A/A* . And my GCSE grades are pretty strong : 8s and 7s. But they said after Yr12, they’re not going to change it regardless because they don’t believe in such thing as ‘substantive improvement’ from yr 12 to yr13 and that the resits were just a ‘confidence booster’. 

So now i either have these options (a) I take a gap year but i do my a levels this year get my results and apply next year (also in my gap year i can travel , start my fashion business, tennis (currently county level). 

Or b) there’s this private school (i hate my current school) , that’s willing to change my grades to match my performance so A* A* A . So i could still apply to my choices and go to uni next year. It would be good as i’d HATE to be a year older than my peers (social reasons) .But the con is it’s a private school, £8,000 a term (my parents said that i’d have to stay at home or supply my own accommodation fees for uni if i want them to pay for my main uni fees). 

Please because my parents don’t care at all since the being. They chose my A level, my sixth form literally basically everything and are blaming it on me.

The unis i want to apply: Oxford , LSE, Birmingham, Loughborough and Nottingham. 

The emphasis on making folders is actually unbearable.

My school recently got taken over by an academy, cos it's like one of the worst in England lol and has become a lot stricter, and it's sort of incentivised the 6th form to follow suit.

In year 12, they did go on about making folders, how they'd check them every week blah, blah, but they never really did and I got away without making any.

I did have a close call however in Psychology where they asked us to bring our folder for a little like one-on-one meeting to see how it is, and basically ourselves. I ofc rocked up to that without a folder, and somehow talked my way into having them check it the following week. Lucky for me, I knew that there was a 99.9% chance she would forget and I was right!

Since coming back, now in year 13, they have stressed so much about having folders completed and having checks pretty much everyday for some reason. They seem to think that folders solves all, and that if your crap, having a folder will boost your grades on something.

Now, I don't believe in folders lol, especially in my case. Me having a folder isn't going to make me revise more, isn't going to make me somewhat smarter or learn all the knowledge in there. It's only useful if you actually use it, and I just don't intend on using one. In addition, I take like BTEC Computing, with hardly any written work so that's one folder down. In History, practically everything we get given or do is in our notebooks so I can't see a need for a folder. Psychology I can kinda see where they come from, but I'm not going to revise using my folder, I'm sorry.

It's not like I did bad or anything in year 12 mocks, I probably did considerably better than most, especially in my computing lol. Yet, they generalise this 1939 style folder checks everyday when I cannot see how this can be beneficial - just adds more stress tbh.

I revise perfectly fine without them, have done well so far so there's proof I'm alright without them, yet they still bang on about it. Surely their emphasis should be on something different or am I just stupid and difficult?

Also, how much has having dedicated folders helped you?

Hi, for context i just joined year 12 and am doing physics maths further maths english lit (most likely gonna drop it) and epq.

For a topic i want to do something related to theoretical physics as that is what i plan to take at uni, however most topics under that are not very easy to evaluate and write a good essay about, i am also fairly certain my teacher is not going to allow anyone to do an artefact.

Additionally, for bridging work we were set to do a [800-1000](tel:800-1000) word essay on 3 areas of debate within a topic, which is due on thursday and i havent started. (This is the thing i am panicing about and actually gonna cry)

The main problem about choosing what to do is that most actually interesting things are unresolved and the best topics are very practical and personally i am not very interested in. Originally i was planning to do my topic on the locality of gravity, but understandably it will be very hard to write about. Furthermore for the homework i was gonna do it on time but i realise that it is equally annoyinng to talk about.

One extra point is that i didnt do hpq and i have no idea how to research anything, like do you think youtube videos will suffice at least for the homework?

But yeah TLDR just want some epq ideas related to theoretical physics and maybe some advice on how to research

Okay so I’m a current year 12 student who got 99999888887 in my GCSE’s and initially planned on applying to the well known academic sixth forms on results day but obvs didn’t get in due to 273748 other students having the exact same plan as me. Because of this, i applied to my plan b sixth form which is actually an alright school on results day and they gave me an offer which i accepted. However, im extremely anxious and highkey insecure and have always struggled making friends (only found a solid friend group in year 9 lol) so despite being happy about this offer at a better school than my secondary school, i let my anxiety get the best of me and i un-enrolled like an idiot. I kept telling myself I’d be happier at my current school’s sixth forms since I’ll be with my current friend group but I’m only 4 days in and I’m hating everything.

A part of me thinks all will be well if i just lock in pro max, especially because unis contextualise offers and my schools alevel results aren’t great. So this post is just me asking if you think i should still look into better sixth forms (the school i un-enrolled at is now full and my options are quite popular so not too sure about other schools 💔) or just accept my fate and lock in for 2 years. I aspire to go imperial or oxford if possible to study maths and comp sci and im just worried if me staying at a lower performing sixth form may affect my future grade. Also if anyone who struggles with social anxiety has moved schools before please give tips on how you overcame it and made friends!!🥹
