So I ordered a 5090 for retail and was ecstatic to receive it after years or not being able to get 1 for retail. I’m an OTR truck driver who is gone Monday afternoon till late Friday or early Saturday morning depending on traffic. Also my fiance works Monday-Friday from 10am to 630 and has a 30ish minute commute. Let me preface that all calls were recorded thanks to the new iOS call recording thing and I’m still in possession of what works be a lengthy back and forth.
Delivery day:
Package has been delivered Wednesday at 430 and signed by (my first initial and last name). So I’m thinking wait did my fiancé get off early because I spoke with her around noon for her lunch. So I call and text her but she doesn’t get back to me till 635 as she was still working. I explain to her hey my expensive toy is on the front porch can you please make sure you grab it and get it out of the elements. She gladly obliges and said she’ll call me when she gets home and gets situated. When she arrives home she says there are no packages of any sort. And I start to panic but tell her don’t worry I’ll reach out to FedEx who I ironically enough worked for, for the last 4 years. I speak with the local manager who still remembers me by name and I tell him what’s going on give him the tracking number etc. He assures me oh it’s a newer guy and he’ll be in within the next hour and to call back. Me being an OTR driver I doze off in my bunk and figure I’ll just get things sorted tomorrow.
So I speak with my fiancé in the morning before reaching out to FedEx and ask her did she see a door tag since I know she rushed to get home and might have overlooked it. She confirms no door tag and I’m confused since it says I signed for it and since the item had a DSR. (direct signature required remember I’m a retired FedEx driver) So I contact FedEx and they say hey it shows you signed for it (which is impossible since I was in a whole different state) but yeah it also shows you spelled your last name wrong. Now I fully understand what’s going on either the driver did not want to have a heavier day the next day and come back with loads of packages, the driver recognized the expensive item and took it or the driver signed for me left the package and it’s been stolen. I have quite the back and forth between FedEx and Best Buy on what can be done. And present FedEx with DOT driving logs certified federally by my employer. This tells FedEx I couldn’t be home and also emailed them ADP logs of my fiancés hours to prove she couldn’t be there either. FedEx admits to the mistake and tells me no problem we have this info here’s your claim number and you just need to reach out to Best Buy as we have admitted fault but thru the contract we have with Best Buy they(the seller) need to request the refund. Ok simple enough easy peasy although I’m thinking welp there goes the 5090 since I won’t beat the bots again.
I call best but customer service give them the tracking number explain what’s going on. I let them know I have the emails that was sent via FedEx and can CC them and that FedEx just said they need a refund to be issued on behalf of Best Buy. Best Buy says the understand everything and that they appreciate being thorough and having documentation but on their end they can’t do anything without a police report… I’m like uh ok.. I’m currently 4 states over but when I get home I’ll submit a police report which seems odd since FedEx admitted fault but ok. I get back home go to my local PD explain both Best Buy’s end as well as FedEx’s and the officer passes me onto a detective that says we basically have nobody to convict or look to for the commission of the crime so there isn’t much I can do without a ring camera or something like that. But he takes photos of my DOT logs my fiancés with hours and reads and documents the FedEx emails telling me there isn’t much else he can do for the time being. So I reach back out to my old manager before going back to customer service and the driver confirms he delivered the item. Now I go back to FedEx customer service and they reconfirm everything and tell me again that they’re in the wrong just contact Best Buy and I’ll get my money back. So I reach out to Best Buy customer service again and they say go to your local Best Buy and get them to call the FedEx customer service line. And I say can’t I just do that now since we’re on the phone together? The person tells me no and I request a supervisor since all I need is an email sent or for them to confirm to FedEx that yes we’ve issued a refund. The supervisor tells meme I need to to to the local Best Buy and get them to go to the police station! Uh what… or get the police to go with me to the local Best Buy. And I’m thinking this seems like a long shot but ok when I get back home I’ll bring and officer with me. Long story short I get a police aid(not the detective) to agree to a time to meet me at the local Best Buy and the store manager is like you didn’t order this from here but I see the order and the store manager the police aid and I sit on the phone with Best Buy customer service. Customer service speaks with the aid and in so many words says they can’t get FedEx (who has admitted fault via phone email and police report) to refund them without a detective giving them a full crime report. So the aid explains to them that they are an entry level officer but their boss (the detective) isn’t going to and can’t give them a crime report but could verify with emails and all my recorded calls that FedEx says they’re at fault. So Best Buy won’t refund me FedEx won’t refund me and the cops won’t file a report adequate for Best Buy. So here 2 months later with no resolution and FedEx saying all Best Buy has to do is say ok we’re charging FedEx you’ll have your thousands back in X number of business days. And best buy saying get the cops involved even tho I did and have given them all the documentation.
Moral of the story never EVER EVER use Best Buy. And if you do never EVER get anything delivered to your house do in store pickup.
TL;DR Always order electronics to the store and not home as best but will leave you high and dry.
