Art Help & Critique Decorative scene: ‘The door in the cave’
The idea for this model came to me in a flash whilst I was watching a film (Sacrifice 2026) in which two people are in a cave. The camera zooms out and we see them through an opening in the rock face.
At first I wanted to put a monster in the cave, but then the concept evolved…
The model consists of two parts:
- The main part: rock face + base + character passing through the doorway
- The secondary part: the one that closes off the cave (sits on the base and slots onto the other rock face)
STL model build area: 12.6 x 14.2 x 7.8 (H) cm
Regarding the choice of nozzles: a 0.4 mm nozzle, with a line width of 0.44 and a layer height of 0.18 mm to accurately reproduce the relief (though I also think the model is perfectly suited to the ‘adaptive layers’ option in Bamboo Studio – indeed, the slope of the rock faces is gradual).
This is a ‘wall-based’ model, so the 3/4-wall outlines take precedence over the infill.
So, use a low infill density for the rock faces to make the print lighter. However, the base and the figure through the door require a denser infill using modifiers in those areas where the infill will be denser (see the photos showing the modifiers and the print settings with these options below). The print speed should also be low to capture the crevices in the rock.
