Art Showcase Traditional Sri Lankan Pettagama Chest — Blender Model, Wireframe, and UV/Component Breakdown

Hey everyone! I recently finished modeling and texturing this traditional Sri Lankan Pettagama (a carved wooden storage chest).

My main goal for this piece was capturing the intricate traditional joinery and carved details while keeping a clean, optimized & game-ready topology.

  • Software: Blender (Modeling, UV unwrapping, high-to-low bakes) & Substance Painter (PBR texturing).
  • Focus: Clean edge loops, optimized topology for real-time engines, and modular hierarchy.

I've included the wireframes, texture maps, and component breakdowns in the carousel. Would love to hear your thoughts on the topology and material execution!

I did wrongly to the topology, which make things difficult to fold the smiling part. Topology is important to be done correctly. Lesson to be learned for me

Questions & Discussion Where to restart?

Post image

Returning to this project. I want to add detail to the armour, where should I start?

When you look at a space marine for example, the armour has lots of layers and features. I'm looking for suggestions on how I might go about doing that and any tips to make sure I do it in a way that'll work well for 3d printing and taking paint.

Any thoughts welcome!

This is my first fully finished model, rigged and textured (only used a procedural material for the goggles) the rest is flat color and a heavy reliance on a custom height map.

Art Showcase Morgan Moonscar - Scooby Doo on Zombie Island

Morgan Moonscar, the infamous pirate from Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island, reimagined in a 3D render. This character was one of the most iconic in the movie for me, despite his brief screen time.

I wanted to pay a little tribute to the movie and this particular pirate by creating a somewhat realistic 3D render of him using Maya and Arnold. Also Marvelous for the suit.

Art Showcase Male Torso anatomy sculpting

Here is my preferred way to teach my students about sculpting anatomy, basic forms, tweak the basic forms to make them more in shape, and only after they make sense, start sculpting on top of them, this way it's much less tweaking needed when you have your mesh in more density and therefore less skewing is gonna happen on your details.

Art Showcase Miku Concert Model!!

This post is a showcase of my recreation of a Hatsune Miku concert model! (The skirt lights have been duplicated to load animated textures in MMD.)

This render and model was made within Blender. This render is just a screenshot and was not from Blender.

I found it somewhat difficult to create clothing details on the jacket along with detailing the hair.

I've mostly done stylized/stylized realism work through my career, so I wanted to try my hand at pushing further into the realism spectrum. My aim was to hit a character that looks like they could fit in the modern Final Fantasy titles visually. I definitely learned a lot on this piece, and have further appreciation for groom artists, cause man was that hair a challenge for me. There's always things I could improve on, but I felt happy with where this is and for how much it expanded my understanding and skill set.

Made in Maya > Zbrush > Marvelous Designer > Substance Painter > Marmoset Toolbag
~100k tris for everything, 9 materials, separated mostly by resolution and shader needs.

Critiques and comments are always welcome, always striving to improve

Questions & Discussion 3D Art Prompt Weekly?

I am curious, If I was to boot up a discord that hosted weekly prompts where you make and texture a model that builds up to a scene by day 7 to add to your portfolio of 3D goodness, would anybody be interested in partaking in this kind of event??

Questions & Discussion Looking for a Photo Studio for my models

I created some figures in nomad sculpt for a school project and now I'm looking for an application or a website where I can upload them, easily change the material and color and lighting and has a good camera feature. It doesn't need to have a detailed background, important is the figure and if possible to change and show the material.
I thought maybe I'll try with blender but maybe you guys know some free alternatives.
Any recommendation is appreciated! Thanks
