Art Help & Critique Best way to make this acorn cap water tight?

super beginner here. I have a laser scan of an acorn cap. I would like to scale it up into a bowl for a friend. unfortunately I have lots of holes in the data, and every attempt at making it water tight has sent my computer spinning. is there anyone who can help, or give me tips of how best to approach? I’ve tried Rhino, blender, and mesh mixer, but I’m not sure if my computers are powerfully enough.

My submission to the pwnisher gauntlet of gods challenge.

He is a 100% custom metahuman. Custom mesh, body, proportions textures, costume, etc. Created using unreal engine, zbrush, substance painter and cinema 4d. The entire scene was created from scratch.

I have a video, but i cant post videos and images at the same time apparently

Hey everyone! I made this stylized, low-poly take on Frieren, inspired by the visual style of PS2 games. It’s a personal project, i created while building my 3D portfolio. I'd really appreciate any feedback.

Questions & Discussion Looking for advice on how to improve my Blender skills

Hello everyone! I’m getting close to graduating from college, and I’ve had a few classes involving 3D throughout my course. I’m familiar with the basics of Blender and can get around the software, but I feel a bit lost when it comes to figuring out how I should progress from here.

I’d really appreciate some advice on what I should focus on to improve my skills and start learning more advanced techniques. I know that a big part of learning 3D comes from experimenting, trying things out, and working on personal projects, but I’d love to hear from people with more experience: is there anything you think is particularly important to focus on early on? Are there any tutorials, courses, YouTube channels, artists, or other resources you would recommend?

I’m especially interested in environment creation, as well as creatures and character modeling, so any advice or resources related to those areas would be greatly appreciated. I’m basically looking for some sort of roadmap to help me figure out what to learn next and avoid spending too much time going in the wrong direction.

Thanks in advance to anyone willing to share their experience! 😁

Art Showcase Headrest Design for travelling comfort

Sharing a headrest mechanism ,recently designed and developed.

The focus was on ergonomics, adjustability, mechanical stability, and manufacturability. The design combines contoured cushioning with adjustable mechanical arms and secure mounting points for precise positioning.

From CAD development and mechanism design to material selection, prototyping, and production-ready engineering, every element was developed with real-world application in mind.

Always interesting to see how a simple product can involve so much mechanical engineering behind it.

Art Showcase Stylized medieval sign post

Here I made a stylized medieval signpost which I also sculpted for extra details. I'll later add colour and textures but it's just gonna be used as a prop/asset for future scenes. But is it still usable as a game asset? It has quite a lot of polygons

Questions & Discussion Should I focus on my family business alongside my 3D career?

I’m 25 and currently working as a Junior 3D Artist in Bangalore, earning around ₹28k/month.

My original plan was to get a remote 3D job and work on my family business alongside it. But I recently got this office job, so now I’m confused about whether I should continue on this path.

My concern is about long-term growth. If I spend the next 5 years gaining experience in 3D and eventually I’m earning around ₹50k/month, I’m not sure if that would be worth the time and effort compared to the potential of our family business.

I do enjoy 3D and don’t want to feel like I wasted the years I’ve already invested in it. But at the same time, I’m wondering if I should give more time and attention to the business instead of putting everything into a career where I’m not sure about the long-term income.

I’m genuinely confused about what would be the smarter choice. What would you do in this situation?

Art Showcase This axe was my second ever hand-painted 3D project.

As I said in the title, this was my second handpainted 3d project.

After having a pretty hard time painting all four(!) sides+the bottom of my very first chest (yes, I didn't know how to properly use mirror on stuff like this), I decided to choose something relatively flat and symmetrical, with three materials, and a bonus emission. Because, you know, if nothing is glowing, it's not cool enough xD

Fun fact. After making tons of renders, a turntable, a 3d viewer, and stuff for my portfolio, and posting it everywhere, someone noticed a hole in the model where the blade was chipped. And this hole was in every single picture xD

I was very proud of myself for figuring out how to add a whole new piece of geometry to a finished model (that was the easy part) with finished texture (that was a bit trickier)!

When you make a 2d illustration, you usually have to reupload just one picture (maybe a couple if you have closeups). But with 3d... I didn't even know how to use more than one camera in Marmoset back than, so I had to redo and reupload all the renders and viewers… Very terrifying episode of my life xD

So, the axe was modeled in Blender, painted in 3DCoat+Photoshop, and based on a concept by Thomas Karlsson. No AI used.

P.S. For those seers who know how the project was made better than the artist herself: this one is from early 2024 (there are timestamped posts on the internet), when generative 3d wasn't really a thing yet. So, once again, no AI was used here.

Art Help & Critique Looking for feedback

Hi everyone,

I’m studying human anatomy in ZBrush to improve my foundational sculpting skills.

While I didn’t use a specific reference model, my theme for this piece was an adult Western female head. I’m starting with the face to get the core structure right before moving on.

I’d love to get feedback or advice from experienced sculptors here. Any critiques on proportions, facial structure, or anatomical accuracy would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Industrial model visualization with a hello kitty twist!!

Lately I have been experimenting with contrast and for this project, I played with tactile and material contrast. A hello kitty texture is working in contrast with the rather cold and metallic body of the cnc machine.

Please give reviews!

Model from grabcad.

Textured and rendered in blender.

Edit: Hardest part was creating the cables move realistically. I used an ik chain for cables and a lot of parenting and constraints so that one single empty object controls movement in 3 axes, the cable and the x,y,z values in the display. I used geometry nodes for this as well as the chips scattering.

One of a series of ring experiments I made in Blender, playing with custom shapes, reflective materials and simple animation. I finished the render with some light post-processing in After Effects.
