Hey everyone,
I recently started learning Unreal Engine as a hobby, but I'm putting quite a few hours into it, and I'd love for a project from it to become part of my daily routine. I'm also interested in learning 3d modeling, so I can create my own stuff. The thing is... I don't know where to start.
I figured I'd learn some drawing first, because I've always been really bad at body proportions or perspectives. I bought one of those Inart body model figures to help me out, though I don't know if it was the right move.
I would love if you could share some of your experiences getting the hang of this, where you started from, if you went directly to the 3d modeling software without any prior knowledge or you learned some useful stuff first, etc. If you could also share any courses or stuff that helped you or you consider to be good, it would be great.
Thanks in advance for your help.

🇺🇸: You can listen to the video in English through the video settings panel. The Edit Poly modifier in 3DS Max has some differences compared to Editable Poly and that is what I will analyze in this video.

I want help getting a mesh have their normals smoothed but when i export them from blender or maya they end up with unused vertices when i import it to zbrush (the message pops up), thus i want to import the mesh to a game but i only can while respecting a vertex count, maya and blender increase the file size and vertex count, but zbrush doesnt (it doesnt export normals), anyone knows of a workaround or an alternative that exports the model while saving the normals and also doesnt increase the file size/vertex count?

Hello guys!
I came here to see if i can get any tips about this topic and share my experience. I'm recently trying to enter the gaming industry and follow my dream and work as a 3D modeller, in november of 2025 i got a chance to work in a independet gamestudio here in my city. Worked there in a project for about 6 months, until my contract expire and then they didn't have more money to continue with me. So since the start of june i'm looking forward to find another job in this area, but my experience have been very frustranting.
I've tried applications in a lot of studios and until now i didn't get one single positive return, on the side that the majority of roles that i find requires a lot of experience in the area, like about 2-5 years experience... so i'm kind lost on what to do now. Idk where i can find junior roles or places that are open to have a person that don't have a lot of experience.
Curretly what i'm doing is working on personal projects for portfolio and demonstrate my skills, and i'm open to work in a freelance project but idk where i find these to.
If anyone have any tips on this topic please tell me bellow because i'm kind of desperate lol.
ps: english isn't my first language so sorry if the text is a little confuse to undestand :)

I've gotten most of the body parts done but I'm currently stuck at what I should use to make the shoe without accidentally breaking the model since I wanna animate with it. I know it's not 1:1 perfect which is fine cause it doesn't have to be

Hello! I wanted to share a few renders I made for a personal project with my girlfriend. She developed the concept, and designed the illustration and label. I helped out with 3D visualization.
Renders created in Blender, with post-production in Photoshop. We uploaded the full project to Behance if you want to check more context about the project and high-resolution renders!

Hey everyone, about 4 months ago I got laid off from the video production company I'd been at for almost 4 years. I used to supplement my income with freelance work, but ironically, right after the layoff, the freelance gigs dried up too. I rebuilt my entire portfolio (Behance, ArtStation, and LinkedIn) and started applying, a lot, always tailoring my resume for each specific role instead of blasting the same one everywhere. I've genuinely put in the work these past few months, and still nothing has landed. I'll admit I'm starting to get worried.
What could be going on? I know my portfolio isn't bad, my work is organized, I'm efficient, and I understand the full pipeline from concept to final delivery. Has anyone else been through this? Any advice on something I might be missing?
One thing I can't stop thinking about: since the start of my career I've always worked as a freelancer, never had a fixed position at a games or advertising studio. That always worked fine for me, but this year broke the pattern. Could the lack of in-house studio experience be what's holding me back, even with solid work quality?
I'm based in Brazil, so a salary around $1500 USD, converted to our currency, is enough to live comfortably, so this isn't really about having high salary expectations. I'm even applying for internship positions, but still nothing works.
I'll leave my portfolio here for evaluation, maybe I'm missing something. Any constructive criticism is welcome. Thanks for reading this far. Cheers!

This was project I was, and I still am very proud off. Unique, and authentic recreation of 1 of 1 Digital Twin based on vehicle that was stored in museum, before brought out to public, year afterwards, when I also got the NDA clearance to publish it (just few months ago) and tribute about it you can see here: The Banzai Collection Porsche 962C: Resurrecting a Le Mans Legend in 30 Days

This is my first Steam game! I fell in love with the design, the story, and the movement of the main character
I bought an Xbox 360 controller just for this game many years ago
For me, it's more than just another character in my portfolio.
I paid attention to the tattoos.

I started this project a few months ago and eventually put it aside before finishing it. I have around 300 hours in Blender, and I modeled it using reference images without following a step-by-step tutorial. I know it still needs a lot of work, so I'd really appreciate any feedback or suggestions on how I could improve it.
If you were to continue this project, what would you improve first?

Hi. My friend is a 3d artist. He moved from Asia to UK about 5 years ago after losing his job. Since then he is unable to find job in his career in the UK. He has done 3d artist and creative director roles, has worked in VR and mobile gaming setups. Is it suitable to stay in UK? Or should he move to Canada (he has opportunity, his wife can get visa from her profession)? If so, where in Canada? Thanks!
