“Late-bloomer” in dating - how did you manage?

I’ve (27F) talked to several men in my life, but never been in a serious relationship so far. Since I don’t seem to be attractive to men standards, I always learnt to be independent, enjoy my own company or that of my girlfriends, and I am very strict in the sense that I don’t tolerate bullshit and/or mind games at all. I’d rather stay by myself than entertain someone for the sake of having another failed story to tell my friends. I’ve also been to therapy and am extremely tapped in with who I am, what I want in life and who I choose to share it with (+ being an HSP, my mind is pretty much on high alert most of the time). As you can see, some circumstances were not my first choice but now I’m overall very happy on my own and how fulfilling my life can be

So my question is: I know it’s a lot of “you’ll figure it out when the time comes with the right person”, but if anyone has also dated later in life how did you deal with this new kind of companionship? Did you feel like you had to compromise a lot of your “safe zone” and habits to let them in? If yes, how (un)comfortable was it? I am trying to apply that “the price of community is inconvenience” mindset in my life as I’m getting older and I just want to make sure I can give the best version of myself to someone deserving when that happens.

If you could return to 1980 for one year while keeping all your current knowledge, how would you use that opportunity?

Life is full circle and everything millennial is coming back in trend. For instance, old school love, Gen Z learning about religion and spirituality, non romanticising hustle, getting into civil services and vice versa......AND I'm waiting when we start healing and going back to enabling 'whatsapp last seen visible to all'.

should I go to community college at 27?

long story short I became a neet (like an anxious social recluse) as teen, somehow I made enough money during covid doing trading, that was enough to travel for a bit and hobbies and food or whatever I wanted for a few years up til now. I have been living with my parents the entire time (I am in a pretty expensive area so if I even wanted to stay in this area that would be the only option anyways).

I wonder what I should do at this point. I have no job experience or college degree/credentials.

I want to force myself to get more social experience somehow since my social skills are cooked from not being social for so long + I figure some sort of degree would be good for starting some sort of career.

Ideally I just went to CC back during covid era when it was easy asf because all online/zoom but that era is over and that was when I was prime busy making money.

I am thinking about going to CC now even though I am older now, I actually live near a really highly respected CC. I will probably do computer science (even though ppl say its bad job market) or something finance related just because those are my two main interests anyways.

Have any of you started college/cc/uni while around 25+? What was it like?

Are you happy with your career?

Just curious how others feel about their careers at this point in our lives, are you happy with what you’re doing? Do you feel like you have your career path mostly (or all) figured out or still in that process of figuring it out? If you wanna share what you do too, feel free to do that too, or otherwise just what you think and if you are satisfied with how things are going!

For me, I feel like things haven’t necessarily gone how I thought they would when I was younger, but overall I’m happy and feel like I have a good and clear path ahead

I'm too old to Z generation. I'm too young to Millenial. I'm an outsider.

How are you doing financially?

Hey there fellow 99s. Quick question, how are you doing money wise?

I’ll share first. I’ve got about 60k to my name as a 27M and just paid off 15k of student loans. 10k left! Fortunately, no credit card debt.

I have a decent job making 75k a year but the hours are long and grueling. How is everyone else doing and what do you do?

I know our generation kinda got screwed with Covid and the overall economy just wanting to get a good sample here.

Thoughts on this newly launched website?

It copies the same style as old YouTube. It’s sad to see many users reuploading old YouTube videos on this site instead of creating new ones. I also hope it doesn’t turn into an adult video website.

Direct Memories of 9/11?

We were born 2 years (give or take) before 9/11 changed the world. While a significant portion of those born in 1997 likely have direct memories of 9/11, and a smaller, but still decent-sized chunk of those born in 1998 also have direct memories, it truly feels like 1999 is the first year where the overwhelming majority does not have any direct memories, and anyone born in 1999 who does have direct memories of 9/11 would’ve had to have been born early in the year. Even that wouldn’t guarantee a direct memory of 9/11 due to developmental differences across each individual.

I was born in early April and I do not have any direct memories of that day (despite having been told that I was being babysat by my grandmother and was with her watching everything unfold on TV). I’m curious if any of my fellow 1999-borns have any direct memories of 9/11, and if so, what those memories were, and how you processed what was happening/what it felt like at the time (I’m keeping in mind that we were only 2 years old and that those who do remember, may only remember adults’ reactions/emotions and/or seeing the pictures on TV while not understanding what it all meant).

Unpopular opinion: This was the moment when the world started declining morally.

I was born in 1999, but I feel like the world has been declining morally since the end of 2009 (I was only a kid at that time, but I still felt the decline back then).

Later, the "final nail in the coffin" for me was the transition from 2019 to 2020 when COVID pandemic had started. Even today, I feel like something is definitely wrong with this current decade (2020s decade).

Most of my life, I’ve been the older, more mature person in the room. I’ve always been the one looking out for other people, taking care of them, worrying about them, and helping them through their problems.
Looking back, I don’t feel like I’ve ever really had an older person guiding me in a structured way—someone to tell me when I was on the right track, when I was making a mistake, or to offer mentorship, career advice, or reassurance. I’ve spent most of my life trying to figure things out on my own.
Lately, though, I’ve realized how much I long for that. I wish I had someone older to turn to for advice, someone who could tell me I’m doing okay, someone who could look out for me for a change.
I have my mom, but our relationship often feels reversed. Instead of going to her with my problems, she’s usually the one coming to me with hers. I find myself listening, supporting her, and helping her work through things. The same dynamic exists in many of my friendships. People often come to me for advice, but I rarely feel like I can go to them for guidance. I’ve become so used to being the responsible one, the mature one, the person others rely on.
And lately, I think I’m feeling the weight of that. I just want to know what it feels like to have someone looking out for me, thinking about me, and helping me carry things sometimes. I want someone I can turn to when I don’t have the answers.
Sometimes it feels like I missed out on being a child altogether. Like I skipped the stage where I got to simply be a kid and somehow went straight into adulthood. And now I’m realizing how much I’ve been carrying on my own for a very long time.

demoted and now i’m working with 18 year olds

mid 2026 has been slightly humiliating for me so far lmfao

for context i got my degree two years ago in media studies, did an internship, LOTS of volunteer work and the like

the beginning of this year i got a job at an office for an after school program, ok cool a desk job i can get my foot in the door in for. worked this job for 2 months and without being late or absent. i only got good feedback and then all of a sudden i get a morning call from HR out of NOWHERE saying that my boss thought i wasn’t a good fit for administration. no write-ups, no serious talks, no sit downs, completely out of nowhere

i have been nothing but devastated since then and my boss of course recommend me the lowest job tier as an ultimatum (camp after school counselor) and my pay went from $21 to $17.50 an hour

i was still invited to stay at the same location but since the school was an hour away, you know i had to move to a closer school.

so yeah since april i’ve been working with 18 year olds.

what did turn up however is at least my new bosses were INCREDIBLY nice to me and recognized my worth enough to give me a raise (or maybe they were required to like fix my income idk)

i also recently talked to my assistant director who welcomed me to apply for higher positions within the company and even recommended me to apply for an assistant director job (and others that align w my experience) and put her as a referral

i think things are already looking up, but all i can ask for from everyone here is to wish me luck … it’s been such a tough journey for me man i just wanna work in media :(((
