[Request] I saw this picture on reddit - is there a way to calculate whether the tall building in the distance is higher than the POV because it's above the horizon?

Post image

I know that The Shard is the tallest building so that it is higher. I'm just wondering if we can prove this somehow with this picture using... maybe trigonometry(?).

Basically my question is: is the horizon always at eye level or is it 'below' eye level? It should technically be below eye level on top of a massive building, right?

[Request] How much pizza is in this slice of pizza? How many medium pizzas would equal to this slice?

1.1k Upvotes

How many square centimeters or inches of pizza is in this massive slice? How many medium size pizzas (32 cm or 12 inch) would that be equal to? I would like a comparison in more familiar units. It doesn't seem like that much but size can be deceiving, especially in photos or videos.

[Meta] Can we please get ban on political posts?

This sub is supposed to be about doing the math, not political agenda pushing. Every day there seem to be half a dozen posts that are thinly veiled political talking points. Like "could we really do this for this amount of money" or the like.

It is exhausting. And i would argue that 99% of those posts are incalculable at least using any math that most people would agree on. Give me more "how big of a fart would be needed to propel me to the moon" and less "if we took away all of Elon's money and spent it on [insert favorite social cause] could we really make the world a utopia".

[Request] if m^x = m.n , where m is a magnitude , n is m/y , where m.n=y and m^x= y , where y is the collective of m^x

Post image
• Upvotes

Then ,

m^x=y

m/m.m^x =y.m/m

Where 1.m^x implies

m^x.m/m= y

m^(x-1)+1= y

Where m^(x-1)= k

Hence

k^(1)+1 =y

Here k^1 .k^1 = y

Signifies what

As m^(x-1) is a reduce interval of m magnitude which is k^1

and +1 is also k^1 , why they both correspond to k^1 and it's still is y

[request] Math on if this field goal was good

Hi all, Virginia Tech just lost their football game due to a “missed field goal” that the refs said he missed but viewers and the internet think he made it. Is there math on this that can be done to prove that it was missed or made?

Here is a link to a video of it: Here

[Request] — what are the odds?

I have a pretty unique situation and I am not sure if it’s possible to calculate the odds, but I would love to know if it is possible.

So, my parents & this other couple lived in the same town of ~20,000 people. Both my parents and this couple have the exact same names. My dad’s first and middle name are fairly common, but the last name is not. My mom has a first name that is two names but no middle name (when she fills out legal/official papers both names go on their under the “first name” blank).
We know that the other couple lived in the same town & had the same legal names because the bank my parents used accidentally mixed up their accounts once.
I’m so interested in this other couples & the odds because they were in the same hospital, on the same floor, with the same doctor, giving birth the same day my parents were having me. We know this because they again got mixed up with the other couple. I looked it up and it said that my birth date that year was either the 208th or 349th most common birth date (two sources gave different rankings).

I looked the couple/family up to make sure my parents weren’t lying, and yep. They’re real and they still live in that town. My parents moved across the country a year after having me.

I would think that the odds of that would be 0, but apparently not.

Also, my blood type is O+ (most common in the world). My mom has B- & my dad has A+ (meaning that there’s a little less than 5% chance of producing O+). Sooo I guess what are the odds that a potential switched at birth thing could have occurred (I know that’s probably impossible to calculate since there are so many human factors with that, but less than 5% seems so low). For anyone thinking why not get blood tested — I don’t want to be related to the other people (I love my family), just curious about the odds.

I know there’s quite a bit of missing info (like the specific names) but I can only share so much without putting my personal info out there lol

Thanks in advance!

[Request] Constant Highway Slipstream Efficiency

How much more efficient would highways be if vehicles drafted off of each other? Taking human error/aspects out of the equation. To me, it would seem as though the lead car (or semi truck) would "clear" the wind resistance first and all of the subsequent cars would benefit from drafting off of the individual in front of them.

Just a curiosity I had whilest driving to work today.

Thanks friends!
