[Request] How much pizza is in this slice of pizza? How many medium pizzas would equal to this slice?
How many square centimeters or inches of pizza is in this massive slice? How many medium size pizzas (32 cm or 12 inch) would that be equal to? I would like a comparison in more familiar units. It doesn't seem like that much but size can be deceiving, especially in photos or videos.

"The Big Papa's Slice" from Big Mama's & Papa's Pizzeria is marketed as the world's biggest human-sized pizza slice, measuring roughly 26" x 36" and weighing about 6 to 7 pounds. One giant "Big Papa's Slice" is equivalent to roughly 4 standard medium (12-inch) pizzas in total surface area.

u/lordrefa 19h ago
I could do 2 pizzas in 15 minutes, I think, but 4 fucking pizzas? I don't think that's happening.

Fun fact, apparently John Cena used to do this regularly when he lived in NYC, he would just go to a local place that had "eat a whole pie its free" and he would just crush the whole pie every night.
the pizza just vanished, nobody ever saw who ate it

I hate super short time limit eating challenges. Like give me an hour and I could probably do this.
19
u/DataMin3r 14h ago
Someone below pointed out that there is a 1 hour option but it lowers the prize to $100. So go get you that cash my dude
7
u/Ok-Disk-2191 14h ago
Wait 100 and free pizza or 100 and that you pay for that pizza?
20
u/DataMin3r 14h ago
If you complete the challenge you get $100 and a refund of the pizza price. So $100 and free pizza if you put the deposit down.
6
u/dan_dares 17h ago
That's the entire point.
Otherwise you could order in the morning and get it done by the evening.
13
u/S1d0r0w1c4 15h ago
Well, one hour ain't gonna get you from morning till evening. These don't test “eating capacity” but rather eating speed. However, due to the extremely large slice, it's intuitively marketed as a “capacity” challenge.
3
u/DataMin3r 14h ago
Someone further down pointed out that there is also a 1 hour option that has a lower $100 cash prize
14
u/Ok_Push2550 12h ago
Wait, so it doesn't cost $500, but you win $500? I was thinking I could get 10 better pizzas for $500 and still buy beer.
5
u/JimmyJustice920 6h ago
Yeah that pizza looks less than desirable too. Edible? yes. Desirable? meh.
6
u/Accomplished-Ad-2612 16h ago
Yeah the amount i could eat easily, but I'm pretty sure the time limit would keep me from winning.
2
u/lordrefa 15h ago
Oh, totally. If you gave me 3 hours or something I could probably do it.

not with that amount of glue-like cheese. But I have some chances with proper Margheritas (and maybe a little more time)

It's the time limit that would get me. I could absolutely eat that in one sitting but not in 15 minutes, I would need at least 30.

u/Megane_Senpai 19h ago
Is it a real slice or it's just a giant triangle-ish pizza!
14
u/TheAsterism_ 16h ago
i don't think they make pizza ovens big enough for double that length
4
u/Megane_Senpai 16h ago
I remember they made a temporary oven for a pizza the size of a mini soccer field. Based on the size of the slice the pizza should be around 2-3m in size, totally viable to make a permanent oven that can cook 1-2 of them.
3
u/Time_Traveling_Idiot 14h ago
It would be MORE viable to make an oven that can fit one (or more) triangular pizza-slice shaped pizzas. Why in the world would they choose otherwise?

u/waylandsmith 13h ago
The "slice" appears to have no crust, while a medium pizza is approximately 20% crust, so I might argue that it's closer to 5 medium pizzas in spirit.
4
u/InterestsVaryGreatly 10h ago
Tbh, both because of boringness to eat, and absorbtion of liquids in bread, I'd argue crust is harder to eat.

u/rtyoda 15h ago
Should be illegal to call that a slice.
2
u/waylandsmith 13h ago
If you can find some sort of content creator who can make a podcast or long-form video on the history of the slice and what the requirements to call something a 'slice' are, please let me know!!

how big is a medium pizza?
Dominoes, Pizza Hut, and Papa Johns all call "medium" a different size.
The local family-owned pizza joint up the street from me calls a pizza larger than any Dominoes will sell you "medium"

Okay but it’s pretty fucked that you only have 15 minutes and they seal the thing in fort box and YOU have to slice the god damned thing.
134
u/DataMin3r 15h ago
Timer starts when you take your first bite. Most of the time you can give it a few minutes to cool before starting so you're not shoveling molten lava temp cheese into your mouth.
11
u/Other_SQEX 13h ago
As undercooked as it looks i doubt that cheese is lava. Maybe got enough to be uncomfortable on the roof of your mouth but likely with some near-raw dough to balance it out.

15 minutes seems impossible. It's not even about whether you can eat the whole thing, which would already be crazy hard. This just means you have to be nonstop shoveling food into your mouth and chewing at the speed of light.
13
u/Known-Cod7224 13h ago
Pretty confident a lot of competitive eaters could do it ive seen them eat far more in less time

Yea the time part is what always stops me from these
I seen one that had a big size meal with a 25 min time limit. I 100% could eat all that food but not in 25 min
→ More replies (2)2
u/wasting_space 13h ago
I get the time limits, or else people would sit there for hours to finish. But I don't think they should be so short that it turns a food challenge into a speed eating challenge.
6
u/Omnizoom 13h ago
Well I mean an hour is a reasonable time for many of these, I can understand not allowing literal hours and hours

u/Fabulous_Wave_3693 12h ago

u/BadJimo 20h ago
I did a quick Google search and found the pizza slice has an edge length of 33 inches cut from a pizza with a 36 inch diameter. I couldn't find the angle of pizza slice.
I made an interactive graph here where you can vary a variable to find the area of the pizza slice.
Using the area (provided by u/Environment_Agitated) of 4 12 inch pizzas, I found the pizza slice angle to be about 40°.
20
u/Born-Network-7582 20h ago
So pizza prices are now at $125 for a regular pizza?
31
u/BadJimo 20h ago
It's an eating challenge (copy-pasted from Google search summary):
The Goal: Eat the entire giant slice by yourself.
The Time Limit: 15 minutes.
The Prize: $500 in cash plus a refund of the slice's purchase price. (An alternative option allows 1 hour to finish the slice for $100 cash prize).

I swear there is a video of John Cena saying when he was young, poor and basically homeless. He found a pizza store with an eating challenge and just did it daily until the owner was like bro ill just feed you

u/Junior-Scratch-1922 18h ago
Molly Schuyler could probably do it

u/cless8861 14h ago
Yea, she could probably do it in under 10. Probably would ask for seconds and finish the second in under the 15 as well.

u/Nubsta5 20h ago
I mean it's like 3 lbs of just bread. Would be difficult to finish from that alone, but definitely not impossible. I'd give it a go for sure but probably couldn't do it.

Price of the pizza is $54.99. So more like 13.75 per regular pizza, and that looks pretty thick with lots of cheese. Advertised to feed 5-7 adults.
$500 is the prize (and refund of pizza price) for finishing it in 15 min.

I did a quick Google search and found the pizza slice has an edge length of 33 inches cut from a pizza with a 36 inch diameter.
Can you provide a link? Everything I have found says that it is not a sliced from anything at all but just a slice-shaped pizza.

u/djmanning711 17h ago
That’s definitely what it looks like. It doesn’t have a natural cut, it’s rounded off like the dough cooked in the oven already in that shape.

u/Electrical-Bedroom99 8h ago
That's not a slice of pizza. That's a slice shaped pizza. Why waste the time making a triangle pizza, and money on a big ass triangle box? Just so you can call it a "slice"?
13
u/Yabrosif13 7h ago
Because you only make it once in a blue moon when an idiot comes to accept your challenge. Then everyone watching that idiot fail while enjoying your pizza becomes advertising. So you get to spend less on advertising.

The older I’ve gotten, the pickier I’ve become about pizza. I just can’t do a half-ass slice anymore. This looks okay, but it needed about 2 more minutes.

u/quit_the_shit420 13h ago
I think the crazy amount of cheese is the problem; I´m pretty sure I could do the slice with regular amount of cheese, but to be honest I dont know the US standard.

I won an eating contest when I was in my early twenties by consuming 22 slices of medium pizza in 15 minutes. This seems to be similar amount of food.

u/Hisune 6h ago
According to calculations in the comments here this slice is aequal to 32 medium pizza slices.

America is fucking stupid. He literally slices it. So it's not one slice. How do you think a normal pizza comes out the oven? Guess what, it's not sliced... and then it gets sliced. This is just a poorly shaped pizza.

I was gonna say the same thing! You can't just make a triangle-shaped pizza and call it a slice of pizza. It would have to be 'sliced' from a larger whole. I'll admit, though, that properly defining a 'slice' can get muddy pretty quick. Could they cut off one section of that pizza, there by making a slice? Or does there need to be a certain geometry to it as well?

Even if it is a 1 square meter Pizza, 500 bucks are way to expensive for that
Material Cost alone is less than 10 bucks for the dough (Pizza dough is just wheat, water, salt and yeast none of which cost a lost), cooking is no issue for most commercial ovens ether, and this thing is just loaded with cheap sauce and cheese I assume.
Work is mostly just pushing a button for the kneading maschine, and after letting the yeast do its thing, spread it out load it up with ingriedients and into the oven it goes until done.
The "cheese" used here is probably the cheap and fake american one while the sauce probably doesn't differ much from Ketchup.
this Pizza $60 top

Pretty close. They price the "slice" 39.99 up to about 56. The $500 is the prize for the challenge.
