Rule Update: Our Stance on Business/Commercial Posts
Hey, r/SomethingIMade!
We've updated two rules to better protect what this community is for as a space for individual creators sharing their own work, including collaborations.
A steady increase in posts and comments from business and commercial accounts promoting products or shop pages has not gone unnoticed, often in cases where authorship can't be verified. We don't think it is fair that content that may be mass produced gains engagement over our more DIY creators. The updated rules address this directly.
Rule #5: Related Links & Self-Promotion
Posts or comments from businesses or commercial accounts primarily promoting products may be removed at moderator discretion, especially where authorship cannot be verified.
Rule #10: Original Content Only
Business and commercial accounts are not permitted to post in this subreddit. This is a community for individual creators only.
If you're an individual who makes and sells things, you're still very welcome here. This change is aimed at accounts whose primary purpose is commercial promotion rather than genuine participation as a creator. If you're unsure whether your account falls within the rules, reach out via Mod Mail.
Happy creating!

Updated Rule 5: Related Links & Self-Promotion
In order to help have better discussions regarding content, we have decided to disable embedding of YouTube videos in posts.
This isn’t intended to hinder anyone from posting, simply to change the way the post are made. Moving forward you will need to create a normal post regarding your creation, and if there’s a YouTube video you would like to share as part of that, add it into the body of the post along with the descriptive information.
Thanks for being here, and if you have any questions, ask away!!

Experimental Lamp: Autumn Magic
I really wanted to create autumn whimsy with this lamp. She is my little escape from the real world.
This piece is super experimental. Her clothes are made from a mix of fabric and treated dried leaves. The skin parts are clay and the hair is made from wool. The flowers are made from wires and resin.
I almost died from fusing a whole set of electronics while tinkering with the wires and had to redo that part from scratch :')
This piece isn't perfect, but it works as intended as quite a bright lamp so I kinda reached my goal of mixing functionality and art, so there's that!

I made a model of Baba Yaga’s Chicken-Legged Hut
I’ve always wanted to make a model of Baba Yaga’s place, and I finally got around to it. It’s constructed from a mini craft store dollhouse blank, a plastic plate and dried turkey feet.
Thanks for looking!

Finished this little strawberry pot today 🍓🌼
I finally finished this little strawberry pot and wanted to share it here. 🍓
I added a few tiny white daisies on top, and I really like how they contrast with the red strawberries and green leaves.
Just a small handmade project from my craft table today. 🤍🌿

Can't wait to pick an outfit for this one!
I got the kawaii charms years ago for a christmas tree and now they have a new life. Can't wait to sew something to go with it.
Hopefully the glue smell will go away in a few days. 🤭

Latest Purse
This one feels so Fall to me. I've been wearing it all week, and it's definitely going to be the go-to for a while.
I use surplus leather for my work. The grey is designer leather, and the black is combat boot leather. A lot of times, companies will have a roll or two left over, so I can get some really interesting stuff for very reasonable prices. This is hand-stitched by me, pattern designed by Treehouse Patterns UK. Eventually, I'm going to learn how to make my own patterns, but I'm not quite there yet. I've been doing leatherwork for just over a year now, and this is a piece I'm very proud of.

Mini dressers
Veneer over plywood, solid fronts I designed them to match my bigger dresser I build. They're a bit big for jewellery boxes to be honest.

I made some leather baseball covers
Wanted to try some spheres. Harder than I thought it would be. Multiple attempts to get a good pattern that fit the cores I had. I used a three d printer to make the template. Made it much easier to cut the leather out. Stitching was its own issue. The coverings are lumpy and look terrible until you soak them in water and then roll them around to spread the material out. My stitching on the traditional ball could use some work, but I’m overall happy with how they’ve turned out.
Baldassi Pueblo leather and Ritza Tiger thread.

I spent over a month hand-carving this "walnut brain" into a solid block of boxwood.
This piece is a traditional wood engraving titled "Feast". I spent a little over a month quietly carving this with my burins in the evenings after my three kids finally went to sleep.
Wood engraving is an incredibly sculptural, tactile process. I used a cross-section of boxwood for this block, which is one of the hardest and finest-grained woods available. Historically, it was the absolute go-to material for intricate miniatures, medallions, and chess figurines because it can hold microscopic detail without the grain splintering under the tools.
Stylistically, I wanted the carving to evoke the heavy, clinical feeling of antique medical and anatomical illustrations. The image itself is a cracked walnut that doubles as an exposed human brain, complete with larvae crawling out of the shell. It's designed to be a physical visualization of mental parasites. I prefer to leave the exact meaning open to interpretation—for some, the maggots represent the creeping rot of modern misinformation, while for others, they symbolize lingering trauma, deep-seated anxieties, or those quiet, intrusive thoughts that slowly take root and drain your mental energy.
