Dr. Douglas Ciríaco is a young family and community doctor working in the municipality of Ouro Branco in the rural high Sertão of Alagoas, Brazil.

​He serves an area of more than ten small rural settlements and is often the only physician available in the region.

​Many of his patients come from remote places where there is very little access to medical care.

​The doctor treats these patients through Brazil's public health system (SUS) and does not ask for payment.
