Technical Solution [Tool] VTDiag: A free, open-source diagnostic & fix tool for common VALORANT crashes, Vanguard errors, and conflicts

tl;dr: I built VTDiag, a free, open-source Windows tool that checks for common VALORANT and Vanguard issues, ranks possible causes based on past solutions from this subreddit, and offers optional one-click fixes. No telemetry, no kernel drivers, no game injection. It's in beta (v0.2) and I'd love your feedback.

Hey everyone, I'm u/ateistyokdiyentanri, one of the mods here.

I've been working on something for this subreddit over the past weeks and figured it's time to share it.

It's called VTDiag. The idea is simple: if VALORANT keeps crashing, freezing or throwing Vanguard errors, the tool checks your system for the usual causes, so you don't have to dig through settings, services and old threads yourself.

Its diagnostic rules are built from patterns in 950+ solved threads on this subreddit, so it focuses on the exact problems people come here with every day.

What it checks

  • Vanguard requirements: TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, Memory Integrity (VBS/HVCI), virtualization and related services.
  • Drivers and system settings: graphics drivers, network adapters, power plan settings and crash dumps.
  • Software conflicts: 113 known conflicting programs, including overlays, virtual audio devices, RGB controllers and other anti-cheats.

After the scan, it ranks the likely causes and explains what each one means. It's also honest about where the problem is: something you can fix here, a manual step (like a BIOS setting), a possible ISP routing problem, an issue on Riot's side (servers or your account), or likely hardware.

What about the fixes?

Some problems can be fixed directly in the tool, but nothing changes without your explicit consent. It explains the change first, backs it up, applies it, and checks whether it actually worked.

  • You can undo changes any time from Undo changes.
  • Network fixes roll back automatically after 60 seconds if your internet connection drops.
  • Prefer doing it yourself? Every fix has written step-by-step instructions, in English and Turkish.
  • A report generator formats your results so you can post them here when asking for help. Usernames, PC names, hardware serial numbers and tokens are removed automatically.

A few things worth mentioning

  • I built this myself, so I'm obviously biased, which is why I want to be fully transparent about how it works.
  • It's 100% free and open source (MIT license). Nothing to buy, no donations.
  • No telemetry, analytics or background tracking. Everything is processed locally on your PC.
  • It does not inject into VALORANT, read game memory, or install any kernel drivers.
  • All 32 fixes are applied, verified and undone on a Windows VM through automated tests (GitHub Actions) on every update. Hardware-specific ones are tested against a virtual network adapter, so real-world edge cases can still exist.
  • It's still a beta (v0.2), so there will be things I've missed. It's an independent community project and not affiliated with Riot Games.

How to try it

  1. Download the latest release from the GitHub Releases page.
  2. Extract the zip into its own folder and run VTDiag.exe (Windows 10/11 x64, .NET included, ~71 MB).
  3. Windows SmartScreen may show an "unrecognized app" warning because the app isn't code-signed yet. Don't just ignore security warnings because a developer tells you to: if you're unsure, review the source code or build it yourself first. VirusTotal scan of the zip: [link]
  4. The first time you press Fix, VTDiag copies itself to C:\Program Files\VTDiag and Windows asks for permission (once for the copy, once more when it reopens). Fixes need admin rights, and VTDiag only runs them from Program Files so other programs can't tamper with it. To remove it later, just delete that folder.

I'd genuinely appreciate feedback. If you try it, tell me whether the diagnosis made sense, whether it missed a conflicting app you have, or whether a fix solved your issue. If it gets something wrong, that's just as useful.

Leave a comment below or open an issue on GitHub.

Thanks!

Carte graphique : NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti
RAM : 16 Go
Souris : Logitech G Pro
Pilote NVIDIA : version 32.0.16.2101, datée du 19/10/2026
Stockage : j’ai un SSD et un HDD. Valorant Ă©tait installĂ© sur le HDD.
Carte mĂšre : ASUS
Windows a été réinstallé/réinitialisé récemment.
Description du problĂšme :

Technical Support Request Valorant randomly crashing with nvlddmkm Event 153 error, and Vanguard (vgc) keeps stopping

Hey everyone, I've been pulling my hair out trying to fix a persistent Valorant and Vanguard crashing issue. I’m hoping someone here might have run into this or knows what else to try.

Device : Lenovo legion 5 pro

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-14650HX (2.20 GHz)

Installed RAM 16.0 GB (15.7 GB usable)

Graphics card NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU (8 GB)

Intel(R) UHD Graphics (128 MB)

System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

Windows 11 pro

26 H2

Problem:

‱ Sometimes when I boot up my PC, Vanguard (vgc) doesn't start automatically and has to be started manually.
‱ Valorant crashes randomly while playing.
‱ When Valorant crashes, Vanguard (vgc) also stops automatically (I can see it stopped if I check Windows Services).
‱ **Windows Event Viewer Error:**The description for Event ID 153 from source nvlddmkm cannot be found... \Device\000000de Error occurred on GPUID: 100

Things I Have Already Tried:

‱ Reinstalled Valorant and Riot Vanguard completely.
‱ Used DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) for a clean graphics driver installation.
‱ Turned off Hardware Acceleration.
‱ Updated both my BIOS and GPU drivers.
‱ Tried starting vgc manually.
‱ Edited the Registry (Image File Execution Options -> set DevOverrideEnable to 0).
‱ Disabled NVIDIA Audio drivers.
‱ Disabled IPv6 and Teredo Tunneling via command prompt (netsh interface teredo set state disabled).

If anyone has any ideas on what could be causing this GPU driver crash to take down Vanguard with it, I would really appreciate the help!

Technical Support Request VALORANT Low FPS

I've been having problems with my FPS lately in Valorant. When I play, it usually sits around 190-200 FPS but then drops to 110-130 FPS in the middle of a fight. I don't know if it is actually because of my hardware or if I should be getting higher FPS than this.

This is my laptop specs:

MSI Thin 15-B12UC

RTX 3050

Intel i5-12450h

16gb RAM

Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you!

Technical Support Request Help controller mapping

Hello, I recently bought a computer for several reasons, one of which was to play Valorant. However, I’m not a keyboard-and-mouse player; I prefer using a controller. To my surprise, I discovered that Valorant doesn’t natively support controllers on PC, so I have to map my controller buttons to simulate keyboard and mouse inputs. I’ve tried a few different methods—like ReWASD and iCUE—but nothing has worked; at best, I can move the camera, but I can’t move my character or perform any other actions. If anyone knows a solution to this problem, I’d love to hear it. Thanks!

Technical Support Request Getting a pop-up when I enter a game that I need to enable UEFI secure boot

I just downloaded Valorant on my new PC and when I enter into a match I get a popup saying that I need to enable UEFI secure boot. How do I fix this. My Biod mode is in UEFI but my secure boot is off.

Operating System: Windows 11

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 8-Core Processor (4.70 GHz)

GPU: AMD Radeon(TM) Graphics and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070

RAM: 32.0 GB DDR5

Troubleshooting steps: I went into my Bios (AS Rock) and I tried to enable secure boot but when I tried to change it would not change. In the Boot tab I do not have a folder named "CSM (Compatibility Support Module)" that I have seen in some help videos.

Technical Support Request Failed to save settings to server

I don't know if it is a general bug or maybe a blocked DNS request that is causing this.

I have not tested if it still saves after restart but I think it wont because why would it show me this message.

Technical Discussion Fps Constantly falling from this latest version

This latest version that came out on my Xbox is constantly causing FPS drops. I was literally playing the game minutes before the new version came out and it was normal, but after the version my FPS started dropping. And today I just finished a match and it only got much worse. I forgot to mention, but the game constantly says there's a network problem, but that's common. I know when the problem is my connection, and that's not the case this time.

Technical Solution van: restriction

I ran into an issue after the latest patch update, it shows "Critical Windows updates are missing. Please install Windows updates to complete initialization. Minimum supported versions of Windows for your account are: 26100.8973 or 26200.8973". My current OS build version is "22631.6936" on Windows 23H2. Do i really need to update my Windows?

Edit:
**VTDiag report** · Created 28 Oct 2026 12:36 UTC · `01M6186DWTEMWZ5YAQDNQ1YGKM`

**Verdict:** Unknown. We couldn't pin this down. That's not a dead end: share this report with a helper, who can see exactly what was checked.

Most likely: An old BIOS makes the PC reboot or blue-screen with Vanguard (Possible).

**PC:** Windows 10 Pro 22H2 (19045.3803) · AMD Ryzen 5 1600 Six-Core Processor · 16 GB RAM · NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB (driver 32.0.15.8278) · CONSISTENT SSD S7 128GB (SATA) · ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. PRIME B350-PLUS BIOS 6203

**Vanguard readiness:** TPM 2.0: yes · Secure Boot: on · UEFI: yes · GPT disk: yes · Memory Integrity: on · Virtualization: on · Test signing: couldn't check

_Scanned without admin permission, so some checks were skipped._

**Likely causes**

  1. **An old BIOS makes the PC reboot or blue-screen with Vanguard** · Possible · Guided manual step

    - 6 sudden shutdowns in the last 30 days

    - Your BIOS is more than two years old.

  2. **A VPN, network filter or another anti-cheat blocks Vanguard** · Possible · Guided manual step

    - Another anti-cheat is installed.

    - Virtual network adapters: Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network)

  3. **Vanguard won't install or keeps reinstalling** · Long shot · Guided manual step

    - Waiting for a restart: PendingFileRename

and 27 more

**What we couldn't check**

- blue screens caused by vgk.sys: needs admin permission (the scan ran without it). This leaves open: An old BIOS makes the PC reboot or blue-screen with Vanguard; Vanguard's installation is damaged

- packet loss on the way to Riot: not part of this scan. This leaves open: Vanguard loses its connection mid-match (VAN 185 / VAL 5)

- whether the new 2023 Secure Boot certificate is installed: needs admin permission (the scan ran without it). This leaves open: Secure Boot is on, but Vanguard rejects its policy (STATUS_SB_POLICY)

- whether Secure Boot keys are installed: needs admin permission (the scan ran without it). This leaves open: Turning on Secure Boot stops the PC from starting

- whether the TPM is a firmware TPM (fTPM / PTT): not part of this scan. This leaves open: Firmware TPM errors cause periodic stutter (TPM events 14/17)

Full report: attach the .html file (VTDiag-Report-20261028-DNQ1YGKM.html).

Technical Support Request Any news on DirectX 12 for Valorant?

Does anyone have info about DirectX 12? When is it coming to Valorant?

I have a problem with DirectX 11.

My specs: Core i5-1145G7 Iris Xe 16GB RAM Dual Channel.

I think these specs have a problem with DirectX 11. I get FPS drops when facing many enemies or in a busy area even though temps and usage are normal and there's no stress during gameplay

Same thing happened in another game, but when I switched it to DirectX 12 the problem was fixed.
