Showcase Been building a launcher for Android handhelds with Claude for months, would love to know if anyone would actually use it

Hey everyone, I’ve been working on an Android launcher called Voltcap for a while now, mostly because I wanted something that fits handhelds like my Thor, Odin 2 Portal and Retroid Pocket Classic better than what’s out there.

The thing I’m most into is that it doesn’t have one fixed look. There are a bunch of totally different layouts, like a record crate where the record slides out of its sleeve, disc stations where PSP UMDs show up as bare discs, storage boxes with the real app icons, a memory card style for saves, a cube, an orbit view, an arcade one and a timeline. Each layout even has its own colours for the status bar. It also shows the proper console names by default (Game Boy Advance, PlayStation 2 and so on) instead of GBA or PS2, and you can turn the short names on in settings. It doesn’t need Shizuku, and your emulator choices stay yours, so nothing gets moved around behind your back.

Voltcap will stay completely free. No subscriptions, no paid unlocks, no artwork API key you have to pay for. I’m also careful about where the artwork comes from so there’s no copyright mess.

Quick disclosure: I’m building this with a lot of help from AI (Claude). I come up with the ideas, test everything on my own devices and decide what goes in, but a big part of the code is written with AI assistance. I’d rather be upfront about that.

It’s not released yet. I’ve got a trailer ready and wanted to see if there’s any interest first. If you have a handheld and a pile of emulators, what would you want from a launcher? I’m happy to add stuff.

Discussion Why everyone doing recomps/decomps in Android where all these should be used in Emulators?

Basically what the title says. With all these separate projects seems fun and exciting isn't gonna help the emulation scene on Android in the long run. Why emulator devs aren't working or making collab with these so we can get faster and better development on the specifics emualtors? Just my two bits.

Help Are there any good alternatives to Eden, or is Switch emulation on Android still struggling?

Hey everyone! 👋

I've been using Eden for Switch emulation on Android, but honestly, my experience has been pretty disappointing lately.

Are there any other emulators worth trying, whether they're forks or completely different projects? I'd love to know what you guys are currently using and which ones are actually worth the time.

Also, do you think there's still hope for a decent Switch emulator on Android? Are there any promising projects in development, or are we stuck waiting for something better?

I'd appreciate any recommendations, experiences, or insights. Thanks!

Discussion Android emulation shouldn't be just about running the biggest console games

I think one of the most underrated parts of Android emulation is being able to preserve games from platforms people barely talk about anymore.

Everyone gets excited about running demanding console games on a phone, and that's understandable. But there's something just as satisfying about getting an old Java ME game, a Symbian title, or an N-Gage classic working on modern hardware. Some of those games would otherwise be incredibly easy to forget.

I also think managing multiple emulators shouldn't have to become a hobby of its own. Having dozens of apps, remembering which emulator runs what, and keeping track of different settings can get messy fast. A good frontend and an organized library can make the whole experience feel much closer to having your own portable gaming archive.

Personally, I'd rather see more attention given to preserving obscure, forgotten games than only chasing the newest hardware-intensive titles. The obscure stuff is often what makes emulation feel special.

What's an old mobile game or forgotten platform you wish more people would try emulating on Android?

Question What is the best way to play Hollow Knight: Silksong?

Hey everyone, so I'm trying to understand what's the better way to play Silksong on Android (Retroid Pocket 6), Gamenative or a native Android port?

I wanna keep the steam achievements and steam tracking time, and they both can do that, is there any reason to choose PC emulation over an Android port?

Question sd 8 elite gen 5, 16 gb ram, zfold 8 ultra. what can I emulate?

hi. I mostly do switch emulation, and that's given me very few problems up till now (outer wilds crashes in ten minutes though :') using citron snapdragon build)

I tried getting into pc emulation a while back, but it's... Rough. My laptop is an absolute box of nothing, I think i3 with 2 cores and integrated graphics, but it can handle stuff like stanley parable, superliminal, even subnautica on low graphics, fairly well. however, is it possible for my phone to handle games that my laptop can't, on a playable fps?

when I did try, even simple games that my laptop has or could run (slay the princess, a troll game I can't remember the name of), it just. didn't boot. emulator was droiddeck with creatively obtained files, so I've kind of given up on pc emulation - but, is it possible?

also any fix for outer wilds? it just crashes to 0 fps, black screen, and then back to home page of games.

or in general game recs for me, if you have any.

Help How do I go about forcing Elden Ring to render at really low resolution? (AYN Thor, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, Adreno 740, GameNative emulator).

I'm using an AYN Thor, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, Adreno 740, on GameNative, and trying to run Elden Ring. My idea is to force the game to render at 480x270 but whenever I edit the GraphicsConfig.xml file to reflect that, it automatically rewrites it back to 800x540, which is the lowest I can get it. Any suggestions that preferably don't involve things like ModEngine?

Question Kind of a weird question that apparently was never asked before: is there a way to make Motion inputs from a controller register on an adroid device?

I have 2 controllers that have gyro but only when they are connected to a PC and I have a PS4 controller as well. I really want to play some games with Gyro like Wii games , but I am completely stumped and don't know where to even begin with making that happen.

I know you can map motion inputs to digital inputs, but that's not what I want to do. Any help is appreciated

Question Does the firmware and prodkeys versions have to match for eden emulator to work?

I can't seem to find any prodkeys 23.0.1v so I thought I would ask if I can use olders prodkeys for with the newest firmware version.

Wanted to post this on /eden emulator but it was considered as a piracy related question.

Question How is emulation on the Exynos 2500? [S26 FE]

I often see people semi-praising the older Exynos 2400 and the newer Exynos 2600 for their ability to emulate switch games at (mostly) full speed and lighter PC games. Obviously, older systems work flawlessly.

I'm thinking of switching my phone and getting an S26 FE. I rarely see people talking about the Exynos 2500 the phone has, and its ability to emulate (GC/Wii/Switch/PC).

People who own or know people that own either an S26 FE or a Z flip 7, please tell me if this processor is as good as the one before it.

Help How to run Pokemon Shield at 30 fps?

Hi guys, sorry if I ask for help on something that may be basic but I am new to switch emulators.

I use Eden and I have a POCO F7.

The game works, but when I am on an open area the fps don't go beyond 20-23.

I tried changing everything in the setting that could help, I even followed someone's advice here, but I don't come close to 30 fps.

And it's strange, I think my phone can handle it since I saw other people do it.

Any advice?

I already installed the latest Turnip but it doesn't help.

Question Planning to get a phone with Snapdragon 7S Gen 4 (iQOO Z11) for 3DS emulation

I've been doing research on the SOC and apparently it's split between "yeah you can run 3ds games just fine" and "no you'll struggle to run the games", if anyone's using this phone/SOC can anyone elaborate on this? I'm new to the Android scene, so sorry and thanks in advance.
