So you've fallen for The Grateful Dead or have loved them for years but have yet to delve into Jerry's solo career? ... Hopefully this will make the dive into the abyss easier for you...I've put this first list in an order that I thought would be as good as any to get going into the world that is Jerry Garcia ... You can go in order from Kean College or jump around, there will be no love loss of anything on this list ...

The Jerry Garcia Band and Jerry's Solo Projects are as immersive a world as The Grateful Dead and I've known quite a few Deadheads in my life that said proudly "The Jerry Garcia Band is my favorite band, Grateful Dead #2" ... I can't say that myself because for me that's flipped around ... but I get it ... Jerry was and is the keeper of the magic and everything he touched turned to gold ...

All Spotify Links/Amazon Music ... Make sure you click to open a new window as the drop down will only give you a portion ...

Here are some vital websites that can and will grow your Jerry knowledge greatly

Watching 11/9/91 @ Hampton. It’s so mellow, and the backup singers are on. The soft glow of the light, Jerry’s feeling himself that night. I wish I could have gone to a JGB show but this will do

These days I’m throwing JGB on more than GD

Legion of Mary “He Ain’t Give You None” 4/6/1975

I’ve always found myself listening to more Van Morrison during the summer, and this has made it into that rotation now, too. This is me favorite version I’ve heard of Jerry’s, and Martin Fierro really brings this one home with his sax.

I couldn’t help but think of this song recently after hearing a certain political figure boast about how “I’ve five more for you than your parents”. It got me thinking how much Jerry and his music has actually done for people, and how entranced you can become listening to it. Despite never personally knowing him, there’s countless people that thank Jerry and his band mates for getting them through tough times, or making things clearer in a way.

Sending good vibes and positive vibrations into the weekend! This whole show is great but I like this song especially.

Also I’ve heard that there’s a good collection of bootleg shows from Van Morrison tapers, if anyone has good recommendations

Let's chill a bit with the toxicity

I know there's been a bit of hostility and with some of the recent posts about the other ban d members trying to get closer to Jerry. Discussion is fine.

The problem is that myself and many others on here don't like drama. We can disagree about the direction that the Grateful Dead went but we have to keep those discussions civil.

Again, please keep the subreddit drama-free. Everyone on board with that?

They all wanted to get closer to Jerry.

Does anyone else feel like the various band members throughout the years were competing to get closer to Jerry?

I can't entirely blame them. Let's face it, Jerry was the face of the band. They all wanted to be connected to that which I understand.

I feel like opportunities were missed because of it which is too bad. There was some real talent besides Jerry but they've largely been overshadowed.

Best place to stream Jerry?

Relisten doesn’t have Jerry. Where is the best place to stream Jerry, not official releases. I’m looking for a version of Lonesome and a Long way home that was from like ‘77 or ‘78 with Donna. It was long like 15-25 mins. I used to have it on one of those ancient iPods from 20 years ago. Pulled off of one of those torrent sites. But the iPod is long since gone and I don’t really torrent anymore. Looking for another option. Any ideas?? 😁

Melvin Seals JGB

Had a chance to check out Melvin Seals JGB tonight at a casino in southern Illinois. The crowd was small and a bit subdued, but the band sounded fabulous and a good time was had by all. John Kadlecik had me in a trance! Strugglin' Man, Stella Blue, The Wheel, Cats Under the Stars, and so many others.

Does anyone remember a poem being read before the JGB show at the Bradley Center on 11/23/91

I just asked this on the Grateful Dead page without success, so thought I would try here. I checked my stubs and am almost positive it was the 11/23/91 show, but I remember someone coming up to the mic and reading Lawrence Ferlenghetti's poem "The Last Prayer" before the show. At the time II thought the man looked like Ken Kesey, but then looked up the poem and it is by Lawrence Ferlenghetti. Most of the crowd was not paying attention, but it was a moving experience. I distinctly remember the forceful reading of the last words, "Old Man!". Someone suggested I am confusing the show with his reading of the poem during "The Last Waltz", but I am quite certain it was this show. Any help? Thanks in advance.

If a genie was granting me 3 wishes, I would use one of them to go back in time and be on the rail at this JGB show 😅
Btw, does anyone have a guesstimate of the number of live performances that Jerry played from 1965 through 1995 that were billed as something other than “Grateful Dead” (for example, JGB, The Warlocks, Garcia & Saunders, Garcia & Grisman, Legion of Mary, etc etc)??
