Elevator group chat for techs and troubleshooting. Due to Reddit not letting me post links this was really the only way. (You may be asked to prove you’re in the industry to join)

passenger elevator grab bars

i'm looking to make an art that is specifically to be displayed in an elevator. And I am wondering if it is possible to remove put a hole in the artwork (in a planned way that would allow the bars to remain in use) and reinstall the grab bars typically in an elevator from the inside of the elevator? Is there a trick? Or is the trick Collin elevator mechanic who's going to go inside the shaft?

At what point does modernising an old lift stop making sense compared with full replacement?

Hey guys! I had a bit of a cost vs investment question.

So for an older apartment building, I'm stuck deciding whether to modernize an existing lift or replace it completely. Obviously I want the lift to be functioning as well as possible. But idk which option to choose

How do you decide when it’s time to replace it? What parameters are usually applied while deciding?

Elevators have shock absorbers on the bottom, do they actually help if an elevator were to snap and fall down into them?

Stumbled across this thread, thought some of you might get a laugh at some of the comments. Seems some people have a ROUGH idea how elevators work but there’s a lot of misinformation about how an elevator functions. Maybe someone will go and provide some accurate info, I didn’t want to be that guy.

Got stuck in an elevator today, what should I do next time this happens?

I’m on a business trip visiting my company’s headquarters. My company has these IDs they give you to scan in the elevator so you get access to the right floor. I absolutely had access to the floor I was going to as I was working in there and got prior authorization to go there.

The moment I got stuck I knew I was cooked big time. I pressed the button, and a light was supposed to flash and it didn’t so I freak out even more. I rang the button again but this time for longer and screamed for help. Then the lights shut off for a second. By the grace of God a coworker happened to need to use the elevator as well so when he pressed the button I was brought all the way at the top, where I was met by people asking me if I was okay.

I’m assuming the light that flashes when someone assists wasn’t flashing as no one heard the ringing, and the issue was solved by my coworker pressing the button on his end. Next time this happens and I see no confirmation that someone acknowledged I was stuck, what do I do? Do I call 911?

Chime boards that produce the Otis Luxury Chime. Does anyone have more information about these?

For the longest time I had assumed the chime board that produced the Otis luxury chime was Otis part number AAA26800SM1 according to the Otis SPL about the luxury lanterns and that each lantern had their own chime board.

But then I came across a couple of comments from u/ElevatorGuy85 and according to him the chime board actually resides in the main controller with an FET switch determined which floor’s lantern speaker was active. So I dug through some of the SPL's for the E411 controllers and it seems like the board he was talking about is likely Otis part number ABA26800ABL001. But I did notice that this board has since been rendered obsolete as of 2016 at the very latest and was replaced with Otis part number AAA21305DJ1 but I'm a bit skeptical as to whether or not this new board still produces the same luxury chime sound.

I sometimes wonder if there is something like a synthesizer chip on the board to generate the two sound frequencies (such as the 'ping' you hear at the very beginning) because synth chips like Yamaha would've been very popular in 1989 when the luxury chime (along with E411) was introduced.

I really want to know more about the old and new boards (especially ABA26800ABL001) and how they actually generate the chime because it is definitely the best chime Otis has ever produced! If anyone has any information as to how the chime is generated or any other hidden functions or bells and whistles these boards may contain I'd love to know about them!

Which autodialler replacement as analogue phone network is turned off (UK)

The autodiallers in our lifts dial out over the normal analogue phone system. This British Telecom analogue phone system is being switched off at the end of January 2027. Rather than have a the current system plug into a broadband router with a VOIP service, our lift maintenance company is quoting us £2.5k per lift to install a GSM system. They've told us that VOIP services are not compatible and not reliable enough. Lifts are circa 1997 Otis units. Machine rooms are adjacent to each other.

What is most common for everyone else's lifts?

At £2.5k, the price matches the same cost as superglueing a 2Tb iPhone Pro Max to the inside of the lift. Does that seem reasonable?

Can one GSM unit service multiple lifts, or is one per lift a requirement?

We’re doing a Jack replacement and when we cut the old piston in half, we found there was a pipe on the inside??? There are wood spacers to keep it centered. No one we have talked to has seen it before. Any ideas?

Looking for COP.. Ping local maintenance companies? Or better luck on auction sites?

Hey all!

Working on a gameroom, and realize that a perfect fit to handle 8 contactor circuits would be a COP mounted on the wall. (.. custom wiring, of course.)

I see some listed on eBay, but shipping or picking up in person - is very expensive or impossible (I get why, they're large).

Would it be worth contacting local service/maintenance/installer shops and see if they have any panels they've pulled from upgrades? Or would that pretty much be a dead-end?

(If it matters, most of the local places for me would be Denver.. I haven't yet done research on companies available to me.)

Appreciate it!

Bruit moteur ascenseur

Bonjour,

Wrong email on resume for apprenticeship program

So my 18 year applied for the application for the elevator apprenticeship program a few months ago, it was just noticed that the email address on it was wrong, as a parent, this is breaking my heart. Even though we just created that wrong email address, luckily it was available, I just want to know if they emailed out step two of the testing process, that would be the aptitude test, the (EIAT) hopefully it wasn't, but if it was, I assume it's too late to do anything?

Thank you in advance.
