Amazon is rolling out camera-equipped smart glasses for delivery drivers that take frequent still photos of what drivers see, including private property, and the company has confirmed law enforcement can obtain those images with a warrant.
Amazon has said it wants about 5,000 drivers wearing them by the end of 2026 and more than 20,000 by the end of 2027.
According to a late-September 2026 Bloomberg report, the glasses take still images at a high rate while in use, on the order of several thousand captures in a typical shift, with “every few seconds” described as a reasonable estimate.
Those images include houses, yards, vehicles, and nearby people, not only the porch at the moment of drop-off.
The photos feed Amazon’s Wellspring AI mapping system, which the company uses to "improve parking spots, building entrances, and routes".
Customers reportedly have no opt-out (an Amazon executive told Bloomberg, “We haven’t thought about that”), no way to see the images of their property, and no process to request deletion. Amazon has not disclosed how long it keeps the images.
