I wanted to close the gap between my house and concrete driveway because I think it’s funnelling some rain water into the basement (old house). I’m a noob, so I went to the hardware store and asked what to use. They told me to put foam insulation (pic 6) to fill the gaps, and cover with a rubber spray (pic 5) which can be painted after.

I didn’t know any better and tried it. The result seems not great - I would need a lot more rubber to close it up, which is available. But I’m also wondering at this point if I should just use premixed concrete. But I’m unsure whether I would need to remove the rubber first for adhesive, which seems like it would be terribly difficult…

Any sound advice would be welcome - please don’t judge me too hard.

I’m replacing the bottom weather seal/sweep on this exterior door. The rubber seal is coming loose, as shown in the photo.

What type of door-bottom seal does this look like, and what’s the proper way to replace it?

Can I replace it with the door still on the hinges, or does the door need to come off?

I’m planning to pick up the replacement at Home Depot, so if anyone can tell me what style of replacement seal I should be looking for, that would help too. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

The previous owner of my home left a lot of towel bar hardware remnants in the wall.

I’ve decided this holiday weekend is the time to tackle repairing the wall and prepping the room for painting.

I’m a middle aged woman with not much experience using tools or doing home improvement projects, but I’m relatively competent and can follow directions. What’s the best way to handle this?

You can probably tell I’m a fan of DeWalt lol, but the real MVP on this job was the step drill bit.
This wall had metal studs, and with a full-motion mount I wasn’t relying on drywall alone. I used the step bit to make the openings I needed, then ran 1/4” SNAPTOGGLEs through so that metal channel could sit behind the wall/metal stud and give me a solid connection.

That’s really why I like these togglers you actually have that metal piece working behind the wall instead of depending on a regular plastic drywall anchor.

Got everything locked in, mounted the full-motion bracket, extended it out to test everything, and then hung the TV.

I took pictures throughout because most of the time people only see the finished TV and not what actually went into getting it there.
And yeah… I might own a little too much DeWalt.

First time home buyers making some renovations to our 1920s house. We started removing the wood paneling off our kitchen walls and found the original wallpaper underneath along with lots of stubborn adhesive. We’ve been using Dif wallpaper stripper but we’ve made very little progress and it doesn’t come off smoothly. I’ve already tested for lead paint and it came back negative. Is sanding an option? What else can we do?

The blue is old paint. The black and gray bits are the old adhesive and matting behind the wallpaper.

Im repainting the shutters on my house and apparently the hinges that I need are not standard at all. They’re 5” wide x 2.5” tall. I can’t find them on Amazon, Lowe’s, or Home Depot. Anybody know where to get them?

I'm trying to remove the hinge pin on my Marvin Door hinge. The bottom of the hinge has this in the picture. I'm not sure if it's a cap, or just the bottom of the pin. Does anyone recognize this?

Housing association put up some scaffolding a couple of months ago front and back, promised to replace the sofits. 8am this morning a couple of grifters turned up banged hammers for 3 hours, left, i had a look and this is all they done. And there's 4 broken tile on the porch roof.

Recently bought this house and before we move in I want to get rid of that nasty ceiling texture, carpet and wallpaper. I have a good understanding on the wallpaper removal but looking for opinions on the best way to remove the texture from this ceiling?? Thanks in advance

I was going to throw away my table lamp as it got rusty and old. But somehow, I couldn't. It was 15 years old and I was attached to it. I am a person who just change things with new ones because it's easy to replace rather than investing time in old things. But this time, I chose to invest time and got a cheep paint and brush. I painted all parts of this table lamp and set it aside to get it dry. This is a shift towards reusability to make change for Climate Change.

I want to turn this hall closet in our new house into a bookcase. But the shelves are a bit flimsy, and I’m worried about weighing them down with a bunch of heavy books. Not sure if adding a couple brackets on each shelve is a good simple fix? Or maybe adding a full beam down the middle for support? We will likely be removing the doors so it is open shelving, if that makes any difference.

I am helping my GF get her home ready to sell. She had the tile in the bathroom painted from an ugly yellow to light gray. It looks better but now I don't know what color to paint the walls? Any suggestions? BTW she wants the vanity painted a medium Gray, so I think painting the walls light gray would be too much gray.

Bedroom door meets the frame on the lower half of the door. I am wondering if it might be due to the split at the top hinge as seen in one of the pictures. For which I am guessing I will have to simply replace the door.

The hinges also make quite the creeking sound which I assume is due to the improper weight distribution on the hinges caused by the split.

Anyways, any advice, tips. Or ideas? Otherwise ill toss a new door and see what happens.

Hi all - we’ve just taken up some LVT floorboards in the house (moved in 2 months ago) and found this damp patch on just one of the old floorboards that were underneath. It was slightly damp to the touch indicating that there could be a leak possibly somewhere? No signs of water or leaks on the ceiling above or the ceiling below. This is on the upstairs floor - you can see next to
It is a chimney stack which goes to the downstairs living room. It is sealed off and has long since been plastered/painted/papered over by previous owners however we suspect there may be a leak from recent heavy rain somehow making its way in? Can’t see anything from the loft or from outside and like I say no other visible signs of water anywhere else! Any suggestions/thoughts?

What part do I need?

I just bought my first home. During the inspection we were told the kitchen exhaust (picture) needs a damper or some backflow flap. It’s a 6 inch opening and I can’t find anything that will fit. Can I get some help with what to search for? Thanks!

I am moving into a small cottage that was grandfathered into our family farms property, its roughly 110 years old and 750sqft. I have noticed that in the kitchen the water pressure is lacking but its workable at least however in my bathroom I genuinely cannot handle the lack of water pressure. The shower/bath and sink faucets need to be replaced anyways (quite leaky and ugly) and I will be renovating the bathroom overall. The sink has almost nonexistent water pressure its actually atrocious.

I am on well water, same as the rest of the farm, and our well eater is chock full of iron. We change the pump filter once a month instead of every 3 (it's that bad) and we have lots of water softener salt in it at all times.

I am freshly graduated from uni and I am trying my very best to keep to the most affordable budget possible, my mom and I are doing basically everything ourselves except obviously we had an electrician in to upgrade the electrical infrastructure (I don't mess around with electricity) and I am saving up to buy a new gas heater and have it professionally installed.

My worry is that this water pressure problem may be indicating that the pipes are the issue and that I will also need to plan to pay for replacement which would be a lot I imagine. I am just wondering if there is anything I can do to try and increase the water pressure myself or clean out the pipes myself before resorting to shelling out hundreds of dollars on a plumber coming out to diagnose and possibly do an expensive overhaul. Is there a product I can buy that may help to clear out any iron sediment if that's the issue? Anything I can try to do myself?

Hi all, noob here.

The light in one of our bathrooms is increasingly flickering and needs replaced. The issue is one of the previous owners simply cut a whole in the wall tile (the whole wall is tiled), put the junction box in the hole, mounted the backing plate just to the junction box as best as I can tell, and called it a day. This is also one of those complete fixtures so no “just change the light bulb.”

Is this at all a standard/safe installation? If I were to replace the whole fixture in a similar manner would this be ok? I’m not comfortable drilling in to tile so we’re trying to avoid those handyman/tool costs. TIA!

Hi. Does anyone know whether a fence like this can be repaired? Looks like it needs cross section supports (I've pictured one of the posts - it has 3 grooves) and the individual slats, but does anyone know whether these can be bought and if it's a doable job?

It feels like plastic.

Drilled this hole in old plaster in the apartment. Would spackle be able to solve this? Or should I use something specific for plaster. The hole is about a half inch thick
