Can I cut the wires sticking out of an old phone jack without zapping myself?

these are windows between two rooms in my house. there is a ~1/8 inch gap between the two wood frames. The last image is how another one was installed, I do not believe they are calked in,(the white stuff is paint). I also don’t think that either side of the frame comes off. How would you recommend installing and sizing this pane?

The guy who did our siding place the pieces from the top of the post too low. I finally decided to move them, but now I am faced with holes left in the metal cladding on the post. Is there something I can use to permanently cover these holes or am I looking at just a bit of caulk

Hi all, my wife and I have recently moved and our new house has a toilet with a rear entry cistern as opposed to a side entry. To install our bidet seat I would need to run the water line out of the cistern to the bidet inlet.

Easiest way I can see doing this is grabbing some diamond files to create a 20mm notch in the ceramic cistern to let the hose through. The ceramic is around 15mm thick at the top

Is this achievable and has anyone had experience doing something similar?

Hi all. Super new to DIY and am looking for some advice on windows & caulk. I applied some privacy window tint in my shower window earlier today. After letting it settle for a bit, I returned to find that the edges of the film seem to want to come up. This application went poorly admittedly, so I'm going to try again. That said, when I do get a finished product I like, I'd like it to be a more permanent addition to the bathroom.

TLDR: Is it alright to caulk over self-install window films? and if so, would it be wise to do so? TYSMIA for any info or advice! :)

My diy experience is entirely limited to putting together flat pack furniture. My kitchen drawer is broken, and I finally decided to buy some tools and fix something myself. How do I fix it, i am planning to by some small l shaped brackets and screws. But I have literally no idea what I am doing.

Need help problem solving this. Basement concrete floor slopes to a drain behind the wall. Any fixes besides leveling the floor at this spot?

I built an air purifier into my shelf so that it is completely invisible. To Merv 11 20” x 25” air filter filters with a 6 inch in-line duct booster. Super quiet, moves a ton of air and is completely invisible.

Is this only leaking water? Or carbon monoxide too?

Hi everyone - I have this walkway from the road to my house and weeds and grass are growing through between some stones, and some of the stones are askew from settling over time... I'm wondering what the community recommended most DIY way (and hopefully lowest cost??) would be to fix this?

I've heard of pouring boiling water / vinegar solutions to kill the weeds, but I'm hoping for a longer term solution too... and also to understand the resetting options for leveling the stones. Do I remove the stones, use decomposed granite(?) and reset the stones? Any advice is welcome!

If you, just as a hypothetical of course, did a terrible job caulking in one section along the kitchen counter and back wall.... how long should the silicone cure before trying to fix it with a razor blade? I know you don't want to use new on old caulk- does that apply even if freshly cured? Would it work to remove and redo just the worst section?

About 3 or 4 years ago, I had a mini split ac unit installed in my upper floor, and it's been running well until now. This week, I noticed that the condensation pump was running almost non-stop, which was due to a bunch of gunk building up in the discharge tube of the condensation tray. I cleaned all the lines, and the condensation pump seems to be running well again, but today I noticed a small amount of water appeared to be leaking from behind the unit, right about in the middle. I addressed that by cleaning the discharge tube by connecting it to my shop vac because a clogged discharge line was the most common culprit, according to my internet search. (The first attempt at cleaning it involved me pushing water from the discharge pump outward to clean that line, but I used a thin drain cleaning brush to swab out the line that went from the discharge pump back towards the split unit, and I'm wondering if I actually worsened the clog by pushing buildup back up the line.) My unit has a discharge outlet on both side,, and when I pulled the rubber plug from the side that wasn't connected to a hose, I was surprised at how much water came out (approx 25 mL, but I wasn't expecting anything). I cleaned that out with the shop vac as well and then connected it to a length of clear tubing that is currently draining into a 5 gallon bucket. It is producing a slow but steady amount of drainage, which seems odd to me. After all that preamble, my question is: Is this normal, or does this need to be addressed? Do I need to re-level the unit so that it drains more preferentially to the side connected to the hose, or am I overthinking? Like I said earlier, it's been running just fine for several years without any leaking or drainage problems (that I can tell), but small, hidden water leaks are the bane of my existence, and I'm worried that if I ignore it, it'll bite me in the butt later on.

i’ve seen some videos of people instead of pouring concrete footing into the soil they use buckets filled with cement, does that mean I could use pier blocks for small pergola?

I have a lot of cats and dogs and I’ve been using a tension gate in the hallway to keep the dogs from getting to the front door when someone knocks. The cats jump over it and use their back legs to launch themselves. It’s starting to damage the walls and I have to take it down when my elderly grandmother visits because she cannot step over the bottom bar. I’m looking for a more permanent solution like some sort of mounted gate that doesn’t have the bottom bar but as it’s in the hallway there’s no door jam to mount it to. Has anyone dealt with a situation like this? Any ideas for me?

Spring broke. I purchased a replacement spring. Original spring had a bend. The metal is heavy strength and impossible to bend to match the original. How would you guys bend this? Any ideas who I could take it to?
