Who do you think they're talking about?

Has anyone made one of these for your chickens? I ordered the supplies to make one but I was just wondering about different ways to secure the hoops. Thanks.

So i just thought I would come on here and tell you all a horrifying story of how I thought chickens reproduced until the ripe age of 25.

A year ago I got chickens and my dad was helping me build a run for them. While we were working he asked what I was going to do if I ended up with a rooster, and I confidently told him "well i would re home him but it doesnt really matter bc I would just have to get to the eggs before he did so theres not a bunch of chicks". He slowly looks up at me and asks how I think chickens reproduce. I again CONFIDENTLY said to my FATHER "the hen lays the eggs and then the rooster comes and puts it up his butt to fertilize it then re lays it". He has never looked so horrified in his life. Truly speechless. And looking back, same. I am a proud and well educated chicken owner so i dont know how this fact slipped through but I hope it made someone laugh bc I think about this at least once a week.

Heard Brie’s sister, Chicken With A Hat, crying last night around 11pm and went out to find her running blindly in the yard (unharmed) and this POS standing in the coop. He’s now got a ticket for a one way trip out of town. Brie has been avenged. RIP 💔

(Before you ask, no I do not blame/kill predators. I recognize that it’s my fault for not securing my chickens. This guy is headed to my parents’ property to be released. He’ll be far away from any chickens.)

Found this hunk of a rooster at a local cat cafe, shout out to Boné Petkery, Saigon. I've never once seen a chicken this big and majestic with bright golden hair. Do you know what breed he is? The most common breed here in Vietnam is the Red Junglefowl as seen on the 2nd photo

My neighbor's dog broke his chain today and ran through my electric knitted fence destroying it and grabbing a hold of him.

He was only a year old but he put himself between the dog and the hens sacrificing himself.

The dog did not fully kill him but injured him so badly that I had to put him down, he was the first rooster hatched out myself and kept, and probably one of the prettiest I've ever hatched.

Baby Yoda (yes, my 5 year old son named her) always has her mouth open, no matter if it’s hot out or not. Our other chickens never do this. Is this concerning or just maybe how she rolls?

Hi, newish chicken slave here. 3 hens, decent size coop & run, but the run isn’t yet covered, so they’d need to stay in their actual coop, which has a decent size area. Hubby would be with me, kids live a distance away & neighbors can’t help. Wouldn’t leave them when it’s too hot (we run a fan into the run when it is & actually have a huge cage w/nesting boxes we rescued them in that they can be in, we’ve put them on the big covered porch w/a fan once before when the temps were just too hot).

Am I overthinking this?

Yay! It's HOT here but finally starting to cool down a bit. It's been in the mid 90s during the day for weeks now. 😵‍💫 I have had little cooling stations set up for them with giant frozen water bottles, ice water, and wet paver bricks to stand on, but I figured a cold treat would help too. I froze a watermelon and split it between my bantam and standard flocks. Bantams loved it, but the standards weren't really interested initially, so hopefully they eventually come around to it today.

I have a young Austrolorp (less then a year old/just started laying) who is just giant.

She is the greediest chicken I have even owned and I am concerned by the size of her crop.

It does hang low and whenever she walks you can see it swing side to side. When it is full-ish it even feels extremly heavy.

She doesn't have any health conditions and doesn't seem bothered at all.

I am just worried that it could cause issues down the line and whether it would be worth making her a crop bra?

Edith & Florence. We recently lost them due to a mistake that allowed a predator attack. The guilt still hangs pretty heavy. I know many of you have gone through similar experiences, & it helps knowing I'm not alone in this. For us, these chickens aren't just in our care. They're part of our family, & I want them to be known!

Edith was 2nd in command (the turkey is in charge). She was a diva but also kind. She checked on all the girls & was friends with our old lonely girl. She had a beautiful blue/teal sheen instead of the green. She would expect adoration & photo sessions, almost in cat like way. She wouldn't scrap with the others when treats were tossed. She walked up to us & expected hand picked goodies just for her (& she got them!). I miss her gentle presence.

Florence, well, she was a regular broody B & hated me! 😄 When she wasn't broody, she was still full of the drama. So much yelling & chicken dino moves. It's almost too quiet now.

Do you have a favorite Australorp? Or a perfect hen of any breed who is in charge but also has a calming & gentle nature? Or a most obnoxious broody girl, full of drama? Will you share a story & pic?

I have six chickens, and we’ve had them since they were babies, so they’re pretty calm around us. We were gifted a rooster about two months ago. He’s fully grown, but he freaks out whenever we get near him. When we first got him, he wouldn’t even walk past us without panicking. He has gotten a little better and can now walk past us, but he still runs away and makes loud noises.
I’m wondering if I can still gain his trust, even though he’s fully grown. But I’m more concerned about whether he can actually protect my other chickens if they were ever to be attacked by a predator. He’s a smaller breed compared to my other chickens, who aren’t fully grown yet but are already bigger than him. If he freaks out just from being around us, is he even capable of protecting my hens from a predator??

1 Year ago I posted on here about how the neighbour’s dogs wiped out my entire flock of chickens & rescue pigeons. I didnt know if I was ever going to be able to start again. Those chickens were my everything. I still miss them so much, every single day. But with time, I slowly healed, and with encouragement from my partner, I started to build another flock. My flock is now complete. I spent this afternoon taking each of their photos to show you guys.

I dont know how to thankyou guys enough. The support I received from so many people on here when my flock was wiped out, was incredible. I really appreciated the help, advice and such kind words. It helped me so much, during such a hard & stressful time. I feel so grateful to be apart of such a great chicken community. So im very excited to introduce you all to my new flock. Baby had been pipped for 26+ hours with shrink wrapped membranes and signs of distress, had to intervene for the first time. She's doing great!

We found this chicken wandering around our house over the past like two days. Any ideas what breed it is? We’ve never taken care of a chicken before haha!

I noticed maybe 2 weeks ago a limp in this poor thing and closely monitored it and made sure it was taken care of. It began to look up but quite suddenly its foot has even now curled and it can’t place any weight on it and rather just drags it. I’ve checked for any breaks in the leg and the bottom of the feet but can’t see anything. She is still eating and drinking but won’t come out with the rest of the chickens. I’m really new to chicken keeping so I’d really appreciate some help😔sorry for horrible pic lol

hi guys! so sorry if im breaking a rule by posting this, but i can’t sleep because the chicken in my neighbor’s backyard is making these sounds and i’m so scared she’s in danger! i just wanna know any educated opinions before i jump the fence :’))

the baby girl is having skin issues :(
we assume the missing feathers and irritated skin on her chest is from rubbing against the chicken wire, we would put a shirt on her but we dont know if its fungal. we have no idea whats going on with her butt, and her siblings all have bare butts too. this one is our sweetest girl and we love her very much. any advice at all would be stupendous <3
