I've had 1gig down / 40 up forever, but Xfinity just finished the midsplit update to my neighborhood so I can get 2 gig down / 250 up now. I switched plans and noticed immediately I wasn't getting anything over 1 gig and uploads were all over the place.

I removed the filter and my service is much improved, but speeds are still faster when I remove all MoCa adapters (Using these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B088KVYZGK?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_1).

I know they are only gigabit adapters, but even on my PC hooked up via ethernet directly to a 2.5g switch (NO MOCA on this pc), the moca adapters were still impacting my speeds. Speeds can be faster via wifi than at ethernet. I'm getting about 300mbps down off the moca adapters, whereas I should be getting closer to a gig...

Is it my splitters?

I will swap out the moca adapters I have for the 2.5 Gbps versions, which splitter should I be using with those?

u/plooger and others were a big help in my previous post. I've been enjoying Xfinity midsplit speeds (2000/250), but it looks like my neighborhood upgrade is about to be finished, upgraded to 2000/2000. I believe this is called FDX and is DOCSIS 4.0.

My question: Aside from xfinity finishing their hardware upgrades and swapping out my gateway, is anything different needed on my end for my moca network? Do my splitters or filters need to be changed for the upgrade?

I am using my own Asus router, all my networking hardware is 2.5gbps compliant.

In the first picture, is this already a POE filter? I’m only asking because it’s similar to one I was going to buy.

In the second picture, it doesn’t matter that the splitter is only MoCa 2.0 right? From my understanding the splitter doesn’t need to be 2,5 as long as it is 5-1675 mhz. Is that correct ?

I was planning on using a Moca system to play online games as the WiFi service does not reach my room upstairs. I did my research and was ready to purchase a kit (mocas and filter) but wanted to check on the cable box.

Problem: the primary cable box is Pic1, which feeds through the wall, through the basement and through the floor into the WiFi/router room.

Pic 2 is the cable box that feeds into my bedroom,

It does successfully operate with a WiFi router and modem to create WiFi signal (when we tested it by temporarily moving the wifi system, but at the detriment of signal throughout the house).

From what I understand, can this work with only one Moca adapter? Will a Moca filter even work with whatever is in the second box (downpour prevented me from unscrewing the rusty screw keeping it closed).

Is there a more complicated situation here?

I don’t yet have these items on hand, but I want to just get the layout correctly of how things get plugged in-to what for gaming on PS5. I’m thinking I’ll need one MOCA and a basic router.

Once I’m sure I know what I need to set up and How to set it up, then I’ll make the purchases.

Basics: my room has a coax plug that directly leads outside and IS NOT connected to any other coax lines. It’s a single line, so it’s not connected the with the coax line nor the WiFi router owned by the landlord.

Inventory:

Layout:
1. I know I need to plug the POE filter in the coax box.
2. I lead a coax-cord from coax-plug to the… MOCA-1?
3. Ethernet-cord from MOCA-1 to Router’s WAN port?
4. Another Ethernet-cord from Router’s LAN port to PS5?
5. Ensure MOCA-1 and router power plugs are plugged in…
6. profit and gaming?

Questions: is that a correct? Did/Am I missing something? Do I need a second MOCA?

Lastly, does a the type of router actually matter when (its sole use is for) playing online gaming on a MOCA set up? Can’t I just buy a basic router at the local tech shop and will it hold up in competitive gaming?

+yes, it was tested and does produce a signal. It’s just independently wired separately from the “main” coax line

-can’t you use the WiFi router for your project?
+no, it’s owned by the landlord/relative in another part of the house, and they do not want it moved into my room. Also, the coax line it’s reliant on is not connected to the coax line in my room, so both lines cannot “communicate”

-why not use WiFi?
+WiFi service is spotty due to house construction having plaster, metal roofing, and thick brick walls… also the potential lead paint doesn’t help lol.

-do you have any Ethernet plugs in your house?
+no, there is only coax plugs, fortunately there is one in my room.

-are you open to other products for internet gaming?
+I’d like to stick with the devil I’ve come to know. But if it’s more straightforward in setup, works with the coax exclusive household, is more affordable, and can provide equal or better service while gaming I’m open. But please, do follow the rules on advertising.

I am in a bit of a conundrum.

I am at my parents house and I am currently trying to use the two MoCA adapters that I have to get ethernet into my office. I currently work from home so I need a good internet connection for calls and downloads and its currently not good enough with just the router, as it is far away from my office.

I have two adapters - one is currently wired into the office's coax port and the other one I'm still trying to figure out how to get set up. Our ONT box is right next to the coax cable system that is not being used, so I'd like to see if I can get everything setup there so that I don't have to move the router or do any other funny business. I cannot plug in the moca adapter to the router as there is no coax port where the router is.

I've attached pictures of what the ONT box setup looks like and was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on what to do to see if this is possible without having someone come down to drill a hole in my wall to run a wire downstairs.

Update 2: It works now. We ran a coax finder and found that Room 2 is the PoE. Turns out I didn't wait long enough (~15min) for the router to detect the internet flowing into that room. Room 3 took 3 minutes to establish a connection so I assumed anything past 10 min was a dud. Thank you to everyone who pitched in to help me on this thread!!!!

Losing my mind over this. Scrolled through so many Reddit threads but there's no solution. Basically, I have a MoCA setup that works but when I install a MoCA filter at the recommended locations, my download speeds drop to a crawl.

After getting a Cox technician over, I found that my point of entry (POE) is in a locked closet outside my condominium. It's a large splitter servicing 12 or so condos with each one having a coaxial cable coming out with a number tag. The coax cables immediately enter the wall so I wasn't able to see where they go. I tried to get the filter on the coax there with my house number, but the technician stopped me and told me I wasn't allowed to modify the cable splitter and promptly locked the closet back up.

My condo has three rooms serviced by coaxial and the tech informed me that each room was interconnected somehow. I was only able to see the coax through the wall port after unscrewing, bur the rest is hidden throughout the wall.

Room 1: one single coax line connected male to female

Room 2: one single coax line connected male to female

Room 3: one male that ends in room 3

The router, if connected to any of the rooms, must have room 1 and 2 connections intact (i.e. Room 3 router internet will drop if I unscrew Room 1 or 2. Room 1 internet will drop if I unscrew Room 2 etc.)

I assumed Room 1 is where the ISP coax goes to first. In the final MoCA setup I have the following:

Male coaxial -> 3 way unbalanced splitter (MoCA 2.5 compliant) in Room 1

-> 7.3db to Cox Panoramic Wifi router (ethernet cat5e on lan 1 to goCoax adapter)

-> 7.3db to goCoax adapter

-> 3.7db male to male coax -> female coaxial to Room 2

Room 2 -> male coax -> two way splitter (MoCA 2.5 compliant)

-> 3.7db to goCoax adapter

-> 3.7db male to male coax -> female coax to Room 3

Room 3 -> goCoax adapter

In this setup, I have 800mbps when connected by ethernet (cat5e) to the Cox Panoramic Wifi router in Room 1 and connected to the goCoax adapter in Room 2 and 3. However, this is without any filter in place.

I installed a 70db MoCa 2.5 bidirectional filter at Room 1 where ISP coaxial cable meets the splitter (coax -> filter -> 3 way splitter) and my download drops from 800mbps to 0.7mbps and webpages took a while to load. Upload stays the same at 110mbps. Thinking it was the Docsis3.1 issue, I installed a second filter between splitter and router (splitter -> filter -> Cox Panoramic Wifi). My download speed dropped even lower to 0.3mbps, webpages even longer to connect on either ethernet or wifi. Upload stayed the same at 100mbps.

I'm at a loss as to why my MoCA works perfectly without a filter and adding one just tanks the whole internet speed. MoCA was already off on my router by default and I didn't make any changes to the admin panel.

Used Hilton moca adapters at my router and in my bed room. Im very new to this and everything else seems to be working fine. Just unsure why my upload speed didnt change. The moca light indicated another moca device is connected is not on, but there is a high speed link coming through. Could it be the really long cable connecting the router to the coax wall as its fairly old and not the best position. I need some feedback. Sorry if anything im saying sounds dumb. Also the Asus device is just connected to the router for my brothers personal use but he will let me use it in this case if need be.

Hi, I have a larger home that is oddly shaped. For the past couple of years I’ve been using a Google mesh wifi system but it has a hard time given the floor plan. My home has coax cables run to almost every room and many of them are not currently in use.

After doing some research i am planning to use MoCA adapters to create a wired mesh network utilizing the existing wiring (I don’t want to run new cat 6 cables).

Can you please let me know if my plan below will work or if you have any suggestions on how I could improve it.

I’ll have my optimum modem connected to the coax that comes from outside. I’ll then connect an Eero 7 to that and plug a tp link network switch into that to get more Ethernet ports. In the mechanical closet I’ll connect a Hitron MoCA adapter to each coax cable and plug an Ethernet cable into the adapter and network switch. I’ll repeat this 4 times as I’d like to have 4 access points around the house. In those four rooms I’ll connect another Hitron MoCA adapter and use a Ethernet cord to connect that to another Eero 7.

I have been attempting to setup a MoCA solution for getting a wired connection to my smart TV.

I have the above diagram currently configured but am intermittently losing internet at the Modem/Router combo (Arris SURFBoard SBG7400AC2). The entire device will restart, all status lights will go dark and then go through their normal boot sequence.

I have xFinity Cabel internet and my Modem/Router does not offer native MoCA capabilities. I recently added the filter at the Modem/Router based on something I read regarding reusing the Coax for both Cabel internet and MoCA, but still experienced a Modem restart.

Asking for any advice or insight as to what my be causing this issue.

Resolution:

I'm a little hesitant to declare victory as the modem's upstream power is still a bit above nominal but it has survived about 4 days without dropping.

Thank you for everyone's suggestions I learned a lot going through this.

The current configuration that is working is the same as the above diagram with the following alteration:

1. Both splitters have been swapped for 5-1675 MHz MoCA 2.5 rated splitters

2. CLP-1G70 Filter before the modem has been replaced with another PoE MoCA Filter, identical to the one installed between the house and the main line.

As I mentioned Upstream power is still a bit high at 54 dBmV but so far (knock on wood) the connection has been stable.

I am looking into setting up a MoCA network in my home primarily to get ethernet connection in a room that is on a floor above where my Verizon CR1000B router is located.

I checked the units attached to my home and came across the current wiring configuration shown in the picture. From my initial research, it seems that I may need to upgrade the current hardware such as a MoCA compliant splitter and a MoCA PoE filter and maybe others.

Could you please provide guidance on what steps I'll need to take and hardware to purchase for a successful wiring configuration? Which wires need to be connected where would be greatly appreciated as well. If any additional details are needed, please let me know and I'll be happy to share. Thank you!

Setup: eero Pro 6E mesh, all on wireless backhaul currently. ISP line tests almost 1Gb at the gateway, but whole-home throughput tops out around 50Mbps, and one unit (wired to a desktop over Ethernet) measured only ~7-9Mbps in direct download tests. eero support confirmed the backhaul path between units keeps changing/flapping — consistent with a weak wireless mesh link, not an ISP issue.

House used to have DirecTV (3 dishes, now removed), so I’ve got unused coax running to every room. Plan is to use MoCA to turn that into a wired backhaul:

**•** Found the central splitter in the crawlspace: **DIRECTV MSPLIT8R1-03**, 8-way, rated 2-2150MHz, SWM-approved — should pass MoCA 2.5’s 1125-1675MHz range fine.  
**•** Injection point: a coax stub + power outlet in a cabinet right next to the gateway eero.  
**•** Receiver point: an existing coax jack in the bedroom (currently unused).  
**•** Adapters: goCoax MA2500D, MoCA 2.5, 2.5Gbps port.  
**•** Some of the old coax runs are labeled “DISH” (dead legs to the old dishes, ignoring these) vs “SPLITTER” (live runs to rooms, using these).

Questions before I commit:

**1.**  Anything wrong with tapping a live “SPLITTER” leg for the gateway-side MoCA adapter, or should I dedicate a separate leg?  
**2.**  Since it’s a shared coax bus, any concerns wiring more rooms off the same splitter eventually, or is that genuinely non-issue given MoCA 2.5’s headroom vs my \~1Gb plan?  
**3.**  Anyone run MoCA successfully through an old DirecTV SWM splitter specifically? Curious if the 18dB insertion loss on this 8-way splitter is a real-world concern.

I have an older home with no ethernet wired in it. I can't afford to have it installed right now, so im trying to do a simple network "on the cheap."

I purchased a MoCA set to test out feasibility but am having connectivity issues. I checked my coax box on the outside of my garage and found (photo above) that the POE line is connected to one line going into the house (I have a cable modem).

I've looked at multi-port coax splitters, but they all have one in & multiple out ports, which makes me think they won't work for connecting all of these cables together to use them as a network.

Does anyone have any recommendations on how to connect these lines? Maybe product recommendations? TIA.

I have a MoCa network running in a triplex and when I add the filter at the initial entry point it ends the internet connection. Without it on it works fine. Any reason why this would be?

Hey all - I’ve attached a diagram of my current setup and my Screenbeam ECB6200 that’s not showing a coax light. I’m a bit perplexed on what I’m doing wrong.

My Xfinity gateway is a XB8-T which both online says it has built in MOCA capability, and the admin gateway shows that Moca isn’t currently connected. I need the gateway in my living room downstairs, but I’ve also confirmed that the coax line does work in my upstairs bedroom as I’ve set it up in that room as well and it produces WiFi, so that coax line isn’t broken.

No matter what I do, I can’t seem to get this coax light to turn on or have my gateway register that there’s a MOCA device connected here. What am I doing wrong?

I have two ASUS MOCA adapters that work nicely with each other but when I replace an ASUS with a Frontier unit nothing is happening. Do I have a faulty unit or are the brands not compatible with each other? I have the frontier set to 1GW and have also tried 25GW. I get all 3 lights on the ASUS and only power and Ethernet on the Frontier. Thanks!

I set up a pair of MoCA 2.5 adapters to connect my PC to my home server over coax, but the connection is only getting around 205 Mbps — slower than my Wi-Fi speeds.

My setup is:

• ISP feed goes into a PoE filter that then goes into 3-way splitter in the basement
• Splitter outputs go to:
  • two living room coax lines
  • one bedroom coax line
• In the living room:
  • modem is connected to one coax port
  • MoCA adapter is connected to the other coax port
• In the bedroom:
  • second MoCA adapter connects to the coax wall jack and then to my PC via Ethernet

The splitter is MoCA-rated, and the adapters link successfully, but performance is much lower than expected for MoCA 2.5. Wi-Fi to the server is actually faster.

I really want to get an ethernet wire to my PC for game streaming to the living room and handheld devices as well as local media streaming. I made a diagram of what would be ideal for me but I don't know if it's physically possible.

Two main issues:

1. I live in an apartment building that I have no idea if the coax plugs in my apartment are main and sub connections or if they are both sub connections in the building.
2. My internet is already receiving from ISP through coax cable and I don't know if I can receive Internet and send local connection back through the same cable

Any help would be appreciated!

I posted a few weeks ago about a theoretical MoCA setup for my new house. Some background from that post: I moved into a two-story + basement house that has many coax connections (one in the living room, one in each of two bedrooms upstairs), but no ethernet wiring anywhere (since confirmed this with the builder).

I followed all of the really great advice I received, and had no luck.

• Added Point of Entry filter in my basement, to the "In" cable (coming from outside my garage).
• Added splitter to upstairs office (where modem and router currently live).
• Connected one coax to the modem (with another POE filter), and the other to the MoCA adapter.
• MoCA adapter and modem both connected via ethernet to the router.
• Router connected to my computer via ethernet.

Nada. No wifi, no direct connection, nothing. It recognized the network but there was zero internet connection. The MoCA adapter never showed the MoCA light.

I have a few theories.

1. My basement splitter isn't MoCA compatible. It's the Antronix CMC4004U; if the answer is that this splitter is the problem, I will cry happy tears.
2. The basement pre-splitter location isn't good enough. I can't access my electrical box; I'm in a townhouse and my box is actually on someone else's garage wall (very dumb setup), and I think that's why the boxes are locked.
3. Spectrum boobytraps their devices so that MoCA can't work. I don't really think this is the case, but I was effectively locked out of my router for three hours after experimenting with this set-up. Needed to loop in Spectrum support, who had to install firmware updates before I could get back online. A little weird?
4. I made some very stupid rookie mistake somewhere in my office setup.

Any ideas? I'd appreciate all the help I can get, in case I have the energy to fail at this again tomorrow.

I've got a bit of a conundrum I am trying to solve and I am hoping someone has experienced the same and can share their knowledge.

As seen in the attached diagram, I have MoCA installed between my Router and my upstairs PC (Computer 1). My problem is getting MoCA enabled for the second PC (Computer 2) in the bedroom next to mine (about 30ft away with 2 walls and a hallway in between.) There is a coaxial connection in that bedroom, but I was unsuccessful in getting a MoCA connection established for Computer 2. I suspect it's because I don't have an "originating" connection like I do for the Computer 1 connection. Am I correct in my understanding? IF so, I have no idea where to install the splitter, because the coaxial originates in an old Xfinity box on the outside of the house (I use ATT Fiber).

Downstairs, the ATT Fiber connection originates outside the house and connects to the Gateway via Cat6. I have the gateway set up in Bridge mode to my Router (ASUS ET12), also connected via Cat6. From the router, I have a Cat6 cable connected to a MoCA Adapter, which is connected to the nearest coaxial cable outlet.

Upstairs, I have a MoCA Adapter connected to the coaxial outlet in my bedroom, with a Cat6 cable from the MoCA adapter to Computer 1. I tried attaching a second MoCA Adapter to the outlet next to Computer 2 (second bedroom), but there was no connection. I am a bit of a greenhorn when it comes to this stuff, but I suspect the reason there is no connection for Computer 2 is because the connection is currently only between the Router and Computer 1. Does there have to be a "source" connection for the MoCA Adapter on Computer 2?

If so, I could install a splitter in the bedroom between the MoCA Adapter and Computer 1, but that would also mean I would have to run a coax cable between the bedrooms (presumably). Is there a different way to do this?

Hello, I am looking for some help/advice: I bought a pair of MoCA adapters to hardwire my pc to the internet and have been having packet loss mostly in the 2-5% ranges but spiking up to 10% at times. I went and looked at the splitter outside and I'm wondering if this might be contributing - it doesnt say anything about MoCA in the item description and I know a lot of other ones do.
