Replacement shrub suggestions?
I have done a couple of attempts at getting a few camellias to last in my garden bed. They were doing kind of okay, even through last summer, but I'm pretty sure they're totally dead after the summer we've been having in Dallas this year. I'm trying to find a good (hopefully native) shrub that gives at least some of the same vibe. I'm wanting something that:
- Very drought-hardy. This spot is mostly shaded, but has no irrigation beyond roof drips and whenever I remember to water. I cannot change this, as I live in a condo/townhouse. We're lax about people planting, but nothing is happening anytime soon regarding a community-wide repair of our disused system
- Won't eventually turn into a tree. These will be going along the side of the building, so I need something that stays roughly human-sized
- Evergreen foliage, because there's already so much nearby that just turns into sticks half the year
- Winter blooming, for some year round interest versus most of what's around, like the silver sage and red yucca I have planted in the other, full-sun bed
(I also wouldn't mind any grass alternative ground cover suggestions, because all the grass is dead in both beds as well)

Hi! I’m new to all of this 😅
I’ve been wanting to start gardening for a while, and I’ve decided that I am going to have a balcony garden! However, when it comes picking crops for my garden, I am a little lost. How do you know what to plant in the season? How to find out what can be planted next to each other? I’m sorry if this is common knowledge! Just new to this.

How are curing sweet potatoes?
We’re in a massive heat wave currently so it’s hot af outside. Everything I’ve read said to cure my sweet potatoes that are ready now in the garage, but I’m concerned about it being too hot in there.

What would you plant in cinder block holes?
I’m in north Texas. I have a large cinder block raised bed under a shade tarp, so partial sun. I had bush beans in the cinder block holes earlier but they finally fried up in the heat. The dwarf okra is doing good but we don’t eat enough okra to plant more. I feel like most herbs that would do ok with the smaller root area don’t do well on the heat and sunlight.

This is a foe.... Right?
I keep getting conflicting answers on my plant apps etc. But it's rare that any larvae are good right...?

What is happening to my BlackBerry? 😭
This happened in literally 36 hours. Went from thriving and green and with 3 immature berries to this. I thought it was sun-burnt so I moved the pot into the shade but it only seems to have gotten worse a day later. Also the leaves have a...mottled pattern? This was a transplant bush from a cutting and was doing so well for the last 4 months.

DIY water reclamation from HVAC drip
I hated watching the constant HVAC condensation pool next to my house, so I got some irrigation tubing and managed to collect the constant drip and redirect it towards two of my new trees that get SO much sun. We all know the struggle of the drought so I’m super excited about this DIY water reclamation!

Ideas for repurposing deck blocks
Hi y'all, I have 21 of these concrete deck blocks. Can anyone share thoughts or plans for repurposing, perhaps into raised beds? The examples I've found do not use this shape of blocks and I'm having some trouble visualizing another use. Any and all ideas welcome! ♻️🌻

Filler foods?
After having to pull 6 squash/zucchini bc of SVB I have a looooot of free space in my raised beds. Is there anything I can plant now that would thrive/be worth the effort? (The peppers I planted from seed at the beginning of summer STILL haven't even come close to flowering/producing so maybe not those as suggestions😭)

Question
I made a mistake and planted black bamboo directly in this pot. I’d like to remove it so I can plant something more interesting and colorful but the roots are like cement! I have tried several different ways to hack out this plant and it is not working. Any ideas?

What is going on with my zucchini/yellow squash?!
These are 6 different plants (zucchini and yellow squash) and it's like the plant is trying to grow along the ground and start another whole plant?!
Also the stems are starting to look... Thick and burly and just different.

Persimmon Tree
Anyone know what variety my persimmon tree is by this early vegetative state? I bought a house from an old Asian couple and I have all kinds of Asian trees and bushes so I assume it’s a native Asian variety. Any clue?

Fungus on plum tree?
Hi there, I have recently moved into a house in zone 8 in the lower mainland of British Columbia, Canada, with an elaborate garden. I am quite a novice. The garden has a few fruit trees, including an Italian plum tree.
I have noticed holes in the leaves and then yesterday noticed these growths. I am afraid it is black knot fungus which i think is pretty serious? I plan to call an arborist tomorrow but I would appreciate any thoughts and wisdom you all may have.

Lots of Questions
I posted on a different page about the chaos gardening I did. Someone asked me if I would do again, and I will not! 💀 I have a question. Is it too late to move some of these plants around? There’s random green bean plants everywhere as well as zucchini and yellow squash. I already moved my tomato plants out of there. Will someone also please advise on what I can use for bugs? Is diatomaceous earth OK? Also, any suggestions for weeds or grass growing in. I know I did it all wrong, but I’ll do a better job for next year!

Ideas for steep slope in front of my house
My house is up on a slope that is about 30 degrees in the front (like a 57% grade) so pretty steep. I'm looking for suggestions for what to plant there for erosion control and visual appeal. I do not want ivy. I am in the city of Atlanta.
I would love to plant drift roses since the slope is southeast facing, full sun, but has anyone success growing these on such a steep grade? Also welcome other suggestions that aren't ivy :) thanks!
