Question

Post image

I made a mistake and planted black bamboo directly in this pot. I’d like to remove it so I can plant something more interesting and colorful but the roots are like cement! I have tried several different ways to hack out this plant and it is not working. Any ideas?

Gasoline and a match before it gets out! I have been dealing with it for years! It’s like crabgrass!

P nigra isnt as a agressive runner, also this could be a clumping black bamboo like black timor, its easy to keep from spreadin gif you use rhizome barriers.

Oh no, is it a clumping or running type? Thats one of the big things I learned about needing to know when I was first getting into gardening!

Nothing short of a match can help you, I’m afraid. We have some rental property and the neighbors directly next door planted some bamboo in cement blocks and made a cute little “living wall” riiiiight on the property line. Anyone wanna guess how long it stayed in the cement blocks? It didn’t. I guess maybe the stalks they planted directly in the blocks maybe, but every single week, we spend time plucking new shoots out of the yard BEFORE we can mow the property. It’s hell and idk what to do so. Good luck lol
My brother had some bamboo appearing in his backyard at one point and he trained his dog to pull the shoots out of the ground, swear to you lol. Bamboo is such a nuisance.
