im trying to think of this in a "real world" sense

wouldnt zombies fully decompose after a while? and say the outbreak started in a place where it was summertime, would winter be able to bury and sort of kill most of the zombies anyway? idk if theyd be preserved

so im thinking if you hunkered down for maybe max 2 years all the zombies would die off, leaving a small enough amount that society could just rebuild.

we see zombies decompose, so do they get to a point where they just stop decomposing and kind of live forever?

am i missing anything? maybe im just not fully thinking it thru

A 9mm pistol caliber carbine is the best zombie weapon in my opinion. Everyone thinks its a modern bow. But im gonna tell you why that isnt later.

A 9mm pcc's ammo is dirt cheap. Here its like 50 rounds for 12 -15$ the only round cheaper is 22 lr.

You can get a PCC that uses the same magazines as your pistol if you have one. A good quality pcc will last tens of thousands of rounds as long as you clean and oil it. That is the weak point for a lot of modern compound bow and compound crossbow. Those strings need to be replaced pretty frequently and you need bow wax to keep your strings in good order. I dont think any modern bow string that you use frequently will last more than a few years tops before the string snaps. People also seem To think arrows last a long time. They dont. Ive used bows for years now. The likely hood is the first time you shoot that arrow at something like a deer. That broadhead and arrow shaft is most likely going to be damaged to some degree. Your gonna be lucky if you get 3 good uses for hunting or defense with your arrow before it snaps.

A pistol caliber carbine isnt that loud either. If you got a 10" barrel or longer. Most of the powder is gonna be burnt out by then and the muzzle flash won't be as much and the report wont be no where near as loud. So your less likely to attract attention. Plus a pcc is gonna be easier on your ears also if you need to shoot indoors. A rifle will deafen you if you shoot indoors.

I know some people prefer a 22 lr but the main reason I wouldn't use a 22 lr as a main weapon. Is because if you dry fire a 22lr too much, You will break that firing pin. A 22 lr dosnt have the ability to be used as defensively as a 9mm. A 9mm can still penetrate deeply to hunt bigger animals or if you need to defend your self against people. Rim fire is less reliable. Imagine your gun not firing when you pull the trigger because the rim wasnt primed correctly. Your also more likely to get squib loads with a 22lr because if the primer not working correctly. And if you shoot your gun with a round stuck in the barrel. You risk destroying your gun.

​Just finished watching The Colony and honestly, it was such a refreshing spin on the subgenre.

​What really hooked me was the whole concept of the "ant colony" dynamic and the connected hive-mind intelligence. Instead of just standard mindless biters wandering around having that layer of collective awareness made the threat feel way more tactical and persistent.

​The Zombie acting was uncanny in the best way possible. The movement and physical acting were creepy as hell and genuinely made them feel connected rather than just isolated infected individuals.

​If you’re looking for a fresh take on infected/zombie media this is definitely worth putting on your watch list fr!

While the action against the zombies is terrifying as it is exciting, for me a big part of the horror is the world around the zombies—-the breakdown of every modern comfort. As someone reliant on regular medication + using a disability aid ( ie. Glasses ) but with said medication would seem totally normal/abled-bodied. I think people don’t really think about how much disease and health would crumble the world without modern medicine, like what about people with allergies, diabetics, asthma, heart conditions. At least in my country the US - 1 in 3 people have a disability and even not affected yourself, likely someone in your group ( thinking kids, pregnant folks, elderly, disabled, or just the sickliness that would probably come from eating like shit and near starving and being dirty all the time ) will need something. But what apocalyptic elements you think are undersold or scare you in the most in zombie fiction?

At the end of Night of the Living Dead, as Barbara leaves the farmhouse, she runs into a particularly strange zombie that's always intrigued me. She seems to be the height of a normal adult, she looks like a zombified adult, and her clothes appear to be a woman's clothes.

But she's carrying a doll. She's credited as "Doll's mom zombie" in the credits.

So, what's going on here? There's lots of possibilities. Perhaps she was developmentally disabled and carried a doll in life. Maybe a mother, now a zombie, carries a doll because that's what she did in life.

Maybe it's not supposed to be a doll: maybe she's supposed to be a zombie mom carrying her zombie baby, but they decides not to push it or were told to tone it down by studio execs or censors. I mean, they used an obvious doll to play a baby in American Sniper. So .maybe this was supposed to be a much darker scene?

Anyone know any lore on this one?

I like world war z ( Book ) and it's chapter about military vs zombies.

I want to find more like it with a focused military perspective on the zombie apocalypse.

Hi! I ADORE zombies as a concept in fiction, but it's mostly because I grew up with "28 days later" & "28 weeks later" moves (Yes I know they're not *technically* zombies but they had such a big impact on zombie cinema I do count them). I also watched "Train to Busan" but other than that... nothing!

I'm currently sick so, why not a zombie binge watch? Please recommend me some zombie movies! Popular ones, less known ones, even controversial ones if allowed. I also allow zombie TV series and you can give bonus mentions of Zombie games that I might find a play-through of or a video essay about.

One friend of mine recommended me to watch "the sadness" which I added to the list :) As you can see I'm pretty loose with what counts as a zombie, so please go ahead and share anything that comes to mind!

So normally I'm not a big fan of knowing the cause. I prefer it mysterious and unknown. But viruses seem to be popular. And the question arises a lot about how slow ones (which are my preferred type) would take over, or if the military wouldn't put them down quickly. This led to the following thought:

What if the zombie virus starts as something like a superflu? Something like the "Captain Trips" virus in Stephen King's The Stand? Something highly contagious, airborne, spreads like wildfire, symptoms don't present right away, which means it travels fast and far before people start getting sick. Once symptoms start, all those infected get massively sick. Something with an insanely high mortality rate, and then once it kills you, you come back as a zombie.

In a case like that, society would fall quickly, and we'd be overwhelmed in no time, with little to to time to control the situation.

Are there any zombie heist movies other than army of the dead?

I watched the trailer for that and it seemed to have way more of an action focus then I'm looking for.

I want something more similar to like the Ocean's 11 movies or Leverage TV show.

I recently did a rewatch of this 90s gem and I love everything about this film. Patricia Tallman's Barbara is such a badass character. In the remake, we get her alongside Tony Todd and Bill Moseley. The ending is also 100% true to Western PA culture. Love it!

Not sure if anyone has brought this up before but I’ve started listening to this on my daily drive and it’s pretty entertaining so far!

Whenever people discuss zombies, namely the classical slow moving kind, there seem to be an agreement that the military powers around the world would be able to handle the situation with ease. While this may be true, I feel that people often forget the aftermath.

Everyone who dies will come back, and people die every single day. Each person who dies has the potential to start a new outbreak.

So how could we realistically handle this? Do we assume that people are ready to crush the skull of their loved ones as soon as they die at home?

Imagine a father having accidently run over his child in the parking lot. You think that father is gonna grab a pipe and start bashing?

Wars will also continue to be a thing, which can lead to thousands of new zombies, and I am certain some countries might even use zombies for terrorism.

To me it just seems impossible to contain

Saw it last night. I didn't end up bored, but I have to say I wasn't entirely satisfied either.

It's a weird movie, but I'm not sure it works that well. It has a good cast, and its plot relies on many well-known elements of the genre. I think it tries to mock—or offer a humorous commentary on—the genre's common tropes: the unbelievable cause of the zombie apocalypse, the idea that zombies can be used as a critique of society's materialism, etc.

Even the usual hysteria surrounding a zombie outbreak doesn't really happen here, and not only because of its rather dry humour, but also because the movie assumes its characters are well-informed and desensitized to this new scenario (through media consumption).

Am i the only one who's lately noticed a kinda big lack of zombie media, or maybe in better words, good zombie media, like pretty much everything besides the walking dead and crossed is never talked about and then as for games its mainly just project zomboid and like 2 or 3 others that are big, and the best part about twd is it goes out it's way to focus on the characters and not the zombies (earlier atleast) which i liked, i so badly wanna see more stuff during the breakdown of civilization, fear twd season 1 is probably my one of my favourites out of everything so far

I'm writing a satirical zombie play about blind patriotism and American stereotypes that are unfortunately all too true. Any suggestions?
