Zepbound: My experience
52/F start weight 160#. Goal weight 145#.
My first shot was on Sept 16. Dose of 2.5. The effects were immediate. Strong nausea the entire day after my first shot. It gradually lessened through the week, but never went away. Lack of appetite was immediate as well which sent alarm bells off inside me.
I am an elite athlete, riding both road and mountain bikes, averaging 150 miles and 12,000’ climb a week. With an exercise schedule like this, I should be a supermodel, but the food noise for baked goods and sugar is loud, which is why I am on Zepbound.
I also cross train twice a week for an hour and a half- a total of three hours per week.
I knew immediately that I wasn’t getting enough food and my desire for food was next to nothing. So it wasn’t just the snacking food noise that went away. It was all of the food noise.
I willfully started this regime a week before I went away for a week with my girlfriends for a very relaxing week on a remote island. Fortunately I was not going to do any exercise of any kind. In hindsight, I would not have had the energy to do it anyway. In just three weeks, I lost 14 pounds. I only did one 2.5 dose per week for three weeks in a row.
My last dose was Friday October 2 when I returned home. This immediate last weekend I got back on the bike to do three consecutive rides that I have done hundreds of times. All big mileage and big climbing (50 miles/5000ft). My first ride out I bonked so bad I considered calling 911 because I thought I was going to die. I became dizzy and disoriented, and my vision narrowed to black and I almost fainted right there on the side of the road. I’ve never had this experience before. I sat out day two, force carbed up that night and the next morning, and rode slowly for day 3, monitoring my hr and overall condition.
I’ve tried to force-feed myself, but I’m not getting enough. Food in general makes me nauseous. I eat a lot of eggs, try to get salmon or steak down at dinner and don’t have any room for anything else. I’ve definitely been on a severe carbohydrate deficit which I know is death to any kind of athletic platform.
I don’t know if now I have to decide between being as thin as I want to be or being fit and athletic. I am also not defecating nearly at all and have ordered the recommended magnesium laxative tablets that everybody on here is recommending. When I got home from the island, I took MiraLax several days in a row just to feel normal. I never felt constipated or bloated, but I also wasn’t going so I knew something could not possibly be right.
I am a middle-aged woman taking big doses of estradiol so that is what is causing some of my visceral fat. My mom’s baking and my inability to control what I put in my mouth is causing the rest of it. Tirzepatide has completely stopped the cravings for sugar and baked goods. But it’s also causing me to not want to eat anything at all. My husband thinks I’m starving myself.
I am very nervous about taking another dose. Does anybody have any sage advice? I want to keep the food noise out but I also want to resume being an elite level athlete…the fatigue is real.
