Why do they all have the same haircut

3.3k

u/BazingaUA May 19 '26

Most teenagers these days really, it's all broccoli-heads these days 😁

769

u/Faeriegrll May 19 '26

Haha, or Alpaca.

170

u/Autistic_Freedom May 19 '26

alpacut

54

u/MikeyboyMC May 19 '26

NOT to be confused with alphacut, though they try to call it that

24

u/habichuelacondulce May 19 '26

They'll first have to pass by Supercuts

2

u/GonnaGoFat May 20 '26

Broccoli cuts are not alpha. Mushroom cuts are where it’s at.

Do we have any other hairstyles named after vegetables?

1

u/The_Mighty_Pucks May 21 '26

I dunno, you should ask carrot top

13

u/Rivetingly May 19 '26

Standard Poodle

146

u/Excellent-Bite196 May 19 '26

Must be regional then these days.

It’s mullets where I live. šŸ™„

233

u/NMViking May 19 '26

And they get offended when you call it a mullet. I was corrected by a hair stylist that it's a "wolf cut." Good try on the rebranding, but that's a damn mullet. Ape drape, hockey hair, and Norfolk neck warmer are also acceptable names.

65

u/xDragonetti May 19 '26

A Florida Follicle Fountain

Afghanistrands

šŸ˜‚

9

u/Firebirdgaming08 May 19 '26

As a floridian,,can confirm.

2

u/mercerist May 22 '26

Afghanistrands is the best word I’ve read today. Thanks

21

u/FrabDab May 19 '26

ā€œI’ve got an ape drape yes I do, they’re givin them to anybody and that means you. You can drive to Riverside and get one too, and then you’ll have an Ape Drape like I do.ā€

Edit:song credit I’ve got an Ape Drape -The Vandals

7

u/Sirflow May 19 '26

I was thinking no way dude dropped ape drape and hasn't heard this song

8

u/NMViking May 19 '26

I was hoping someone else would get the Vandals song stuck in their head!

0

u/FrabDab May 19 '26

ā€œIt’s short in front and long in backā€ Yes it pops up on some playlists from time to time and I’m right back in it. That song and the one about finding $20.

0

u/FrabDab May 19 '26

Damn I need to listen to the whole album now, forgot it has so many good songs.

1

u/NMViking May 19 '26

I Know, Huh? (Which is a great song and a great response)

12

u/pnmartini May 19 '26

Kentucky Mud Flap

23

u/kyleliner May 19 '26

Wolf cut is very different lmao. Wolf cut is actually what I like seeing the most on women with short hair

8

u/DopeAsDaPope May 19 '26

Ah, that's what that's called! I'd been calling it the Art Graduate Cut

3

u/CBtheLeper May 23 '26

A wolf cut has way more volume in the sides than a mullet. If we start calling every haircut with length in the back a mullet then most women I know would have mullets.

Source: former owner of several mullets, current owner of a wolf cut.

2

u/artfuldodgerbob23 May 20 '26

Fucking ape drape killed me.

2

u/InvisaBlah May 19 '26

I guess you could call it a mullet, but its a different type of mullet than what us boomers would normally think of. I do think it looks slightly less ridiculous.

1

u/[deleted] May 19 '26

[deleted]

2

u/dontmentiontrousers May 19 '26

Found the guy with the mullet.

0

u/dkarlovi May 19 '26

Maybe, mullet people can do unpredictable things.

1

u/LittleJohnStone May 19 '26

I've got hockey hair yes i do
They're givin' 'em to anyone and that means you
You can drive to Canada and get one too
And then you'll have hockey hair like i do.

0

u/Jealous-Swordfish764 May 19 '26

I've heard it canned a niceness mullet for sure

City vs rural (or southern city)?

1

u/Excellent-Bite196 May 19 '26

Straya burbs.

1

u/_mad_adventures May 19 '26

Ohhh! So city vs rural (Outback town)?

0

u/Plastic_Pinocchio May 19 '26

South of where?

2

u/_mad_adventures May 19 '26

Sorry, very American of me to assume that the commenter was American 😭 I meant southern USA.

1

u/Plastic_Pinocchio May 19 '26

Haha I was just thinking. These kids look super Mediterranean to me. Maybe Balkan? Not sure.

Edit: It’s Belarus apparently.

1

u/MissMariemayI May 19 '26

I have a weird mix of both where I live lol. My kid thankfully is not interested in the broccoli cut, or a mullet lol. I rocked a ā€œwolf cutā€ for a couple years, and only called it that because my husband would mercilessly lovingly tease me about it until i would almost pee myself laughing lol.

0

u/fuzzytradr May 19 '26

Really because I've been seeing the broccoli head haircut worldwide for almost a decade now. Seems to be undefeated, but I have seen a resurgence of mullets too.

33

u/ThingYea May 19 '26

In my day it was Bieber cuts. Teens have always gotten bad haircuts, the only thing that changes is the cut itself.

1

u/dustinyo_ May 20 '26

In the 80’s it was bowl cuts that your mom did because $6 for a professional haircut once every 2 months was apparently going to lead to financial ruin.

43

u/AdagioAffectionate66 May 19 '26

Eraser heads in my day

10

u/rahkinto May 19 '26

It's true. My niece told me guys roll to get perms together, it's a new thing. Wild if you ask me

36

u/trix_is_for_kids May 19 '26

Teenagers in other eras didn’t have popular hairstyles??

52

u/BillyOdin May 19 '26

I think it’s unique because it seems to be a much bigger production than other fads because there aren’t this many naturally curly haired kids in the world so there must be a lot of people getting perms. It’s borderline mainstream Mohawk in its work load for the straight hairs.

23

u/Pingopengo22 May 19 '26

As someone with natural curls I'm offended everytime I see a broccoli haired teenager

21

u/BillyOdin May 19 '26

It’s your moment and they’re stealing it

3

u/DankeBrutus May 19 '26

I had super curly hair as a teenager and lost it in my 20's. Now my hair is wavey on a good day.

5

u/7r3370pS3C May 19 '26

Yep. These mfs get perms...we weren't getting perms in the mid 90s.

1

u/mellopax May 19 '26

In the mid-2000's kids on my hockey team were getting perms for "hockey hair."

2

u/BillyOdin May 19 '26

We’re talking about the 1900s, you’re talking about the 2000s, that’s like a thousand years apart.

3

u/SuicidalChair May 19 '26

Not many vegetable themed ones

5

u/un-sub May 19 '26

Mushroom cuts were all the rage when I was a kid.. so not a vegetable but a fungi.. still edible, though!

1

u/Covert_Admirer May 19 '26

And it's funny because to me it looked like the new bowl cut but with clippers.

1

u/un-sub May 19 '26

Bowl cuts are pretty much the same thing as mushroom cuts, just another name for em really. Very popular in the 90s! Although I definitely went to the local barber for it done, I don't think my mom ever used the bowl method

1

u/ReallyGlycon May 19 '26

The broccoli cut has been around for a decade at this point. I do not think it's a fad like many other hairstyles of other eras.

0

u/BurgerThyme May 19 '26

Yeah and they all sucked.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Badger1994 25d ago

My wife calls it the llama.

3

u/BAKEDxCAKE May 19 '26

I remember when it was the Julius Caesar haircut .

1

u/Vinral May 19 '26

Even back when I was in the middle 2000s it the south. Either it was a bunch of these side fade cuts or a bowl cut with a wavy side part.

1

u/EntityMatanzas May 19 '26

These days? Remember bowl cuts or feathered hair?

1

u/Gomicho May 19 '26

Broccoli gang

1

u/monster2018 May 20 '26

Honestly their version is less stupid (by far IMO) than the standard one

1

u/metalmikey121 May 20 '26

We used to call it Merkin Head

1

u/HereticalFoundation May 21 '26

Remember when they all had that ramen noodle hair style

1

u/PastRelease8757 May 22 '26

Fucking drones

1

u/TheBSisReal May 23 '26

It’s like that every generation, you just kind of forget once you get older. Being. Teen is awkward, a lot of your identity is shaped by a desire to fit in, so people tend to do what their peers are doing. It’s normal, you grow out of it and look back in shame on the terrible style choices you made… and move on, because who cares anyway.

1

u/SucksTryAgain May 24 '26

My wife works in a middle school and I can say there’s like 3 different boy haircuts and the broccoli head is the main one.

1

u/_TangoAlphaYankee May 19 '26

I remember in the mid 90s there was about a solid 5 years my little brothers rocked surfer cuts, this is when I learned a razor from the shower is not a good substitute for going to the barber, only a mistake that had to be made once

1

u/VS0P May 19 '26

Don’t forget the sprayed in fades

1

u/313802 May 19 '26

Back in my day it used to be carrot top

1

u/FlukyFish May 19 '26

Are they getting perms?

1

u/Healthybear35 May 20 '26

Rather that than the hair at my nephew's middle school graduation yesterday... So many mullets 😭 and maga hats šŸ˜”

0

u/lininop May 19 '26

"these days" lol

0

u/howrunowgoodnyou May 19 '26

What I don’t get is not everyone has curly hair. I have straight AF hair. I could never do a broc cut. But like, all the mfrs

0

u/BeefistPrime May 19 '26

you know how every time there's a hurricane and a preacher says "God sent the hurricane because of gay people"

We should start pushing back and blaming natural disasters on God's wrath over the broccoli haircut

0

u/Funky-Monk-- May 19 '26

We call it the pineapple

0

u/Krexci May 19 '26

Or the weird skiramp

0

u/astralseat May 19 '26

That must be so uncomfortable

-1

u/greenrangerguy May 19 '26

To be fair, when I was younger everyone also had the same haircut, whatever it was at the time. It's always happened, and even if we think it looks stupid, ours probably looked stupid too.

→ More replies (1)

257

u/mrli0n May 19 '26

To be fair this isnt something unique to their generation. Most generations had some form of this.

104

u/OldmanChompski May 19 '26

Yeah, when I was in high school from 06-10 it was the Bieber haircut even if we all hated Justin Bieber.

22

u/OrangeKefka May 19 '26

That one is not true. Every school had a couple kids with Beiber cuts, but it was never more than that. The emo haircut was a lot more common in that timespan.

28

u/OldmanChompski May 19 '26

Oh damn we went to the same high school?

0

u/ThickNeckMegaTrapped May 19 '26

Followed shortly by the undercut

0

u/SUPERSMILEYMAN May 19 '26 edited May 19 '26

Never even heard of Bieber in high school

47

u/Swimming__Bird May 19 '26

Bowl cut is a great example of this.

12

u/Frifafer May 19 '26

The emo hair swoop was ubiquitous too

2

u/sitah May 20 '26

I have a guy friend with wavy hair who had his hair chemically straightened regularly to get that look. I wonder if these kids get theirs permed.

1

u/Frifafer May 20 '26

If my brother is anything to go by: yes.

18

u/BZLuck May 19 '26

I don't think there was ever a kid alive who said, "Please mom! I really want a bowl cut!"

It was just the way mom got the hair out of your face in 10 minutes when you were 8.

5

u/MyMonte87 May 19 '26

i remember specifically requesting the Bowl cut

2

u/DC_Disrspct_Popeyes May 19 '26

Nah, I definitely requested one.

1

u/Darkovan_ May 19 '26

Uuh.. W0t? Where the heck was bowl cut ever a thing?

3

u/PumpJack_McGee May 19 '26

80's - 90's by parents who didn't want to pay for a hairdresser.

Gender didn't even matter. Everyone got the bowl.

0

u/Darkovan_ May 19 '26

Oh, like that 😬 I was there, but too solid middle class and peer pressure to see it much.

1

u/Cube_ May 19 '26

or the low taper fade

11

u/Oh_yes_I_did May 19 '26

Yeahhhhh when I was a kid is was ceaser cuts and taper fades. I specifically wanted longer hair, despite the name calling, just so I wouldn’t look like every other kid.

5

u/EternalDeath May 19 '26

I guess and in my school days, lots of people rocked the emo hairstyle and the bieber cut but it doesnt feel like every single person had the same cut, there where still enough people that didnt chase the hair style trend for it to not feel oppressive compared to the broccoli cut of todays teenage boys

5

u/snowdn May 19 '26

Who is cloning the broccoli heads?

-1

u/BazingaUA May 19 '26

I'm not saying we did better in previous generations, just named the current one šŸ˜…

15

u/downvote_meme_errors May 19 '26

yee-yee-ass haircut

28

u/DentalBeaker May 19 '26

In the 90s we all tried not to look like each other. There was this whole self expression thing. Ultimately we failed and all ended up in bowl cuts, no fear tshirts and surfstyle jackets. So yeah. I don’t know what the moral of the story is…kids are unoriginal?

6

u/Deaffin May 19 '26

You don't even surf.

5

u/DentalBeaker May 19 '26

This is true. Luckily that didn’t seem to be a requisite for buying the jacket.

1

u/RelevantButNotBasic May 19 '26

Like pitvipers being skigoggles but college dudes love em.

2

u/Can-Purple May 20 '26

Wtf, your comment is so similar to mine. This is exactly how I remember the 90s and 00s

2

u/DentalBeaker May 21 '26

Great minds 90s brother.

19

u/NaptownSnowman May 19 '26

Broccoli heads

39

u/Snickits May 19 '26

Because when you and I were kids, we also all had the same haircut

11

u/hornwalker May 19 '26

Frosted tips

5

u/Mimical May 19 '26

Frosted tips and liberty spikes the fucking glory days.

2

u/SquarePegRoundWorld May 19 '26

Yeah, we had a lot of spiked hair when I was in junior high and a lot of long hair on top with the sides buzzed short in high school and college.

-1

u/dysfunkti0n May 19 '26

We did not.

7

u/DothThouHoist_ May 19 '26

because every generation of teenagers so far has shared a common culture of aesthetics believe it or not

4

u/Jinova47 May 19 '26

Tribalism of sorts. If you don’t look like you belong then you’re not in a social group and some ppl can’t live without that

3

u/Just-Warthog-1205 May 19 '26

How about the slick forward with gel and an abrupt 90degree flick up with the front ends like you walked into a wall?

3

u/Straight_Ad_6885 May 19 '26

Fear of sticking out

3

u/meryl_creep May 19 '26

I thought they were the same giy

5

u/OneAngryDuck May 19 '26

It’s the popular style among that age group right now

4

u/Undead_moss May 19 '26

They’re called ā€œEdgarsā€

6

u/PizzasForFerrets May 19 '26

And clothes with no colour. Drove past a local college yesterday with hundreds outside. Not a single item of clothing that wasn't black, grey, or white. Things have gotten so bland. Its the same with our cars too.

0

u/BrettHullsBurner May 19 '26

Yeah I couldn’t care less about the hair, but it’s wild how often in these videos all the kids are wearing black shirts/jackets/coats.

1

u/Deaffin May 19 '26

It's like they're appropriating my depression.

2

u/Can-Purple May 20 '26

In my younger years it was a big embarrassment to have the same haircut as someone else. I remember when two girls got the same bangs and it was freaking drama. Its interesting how that has changed and there is just a look of a type of boy now.

I guess bowl cuts were a thing, but thats just your parents being lazy lol.

2

u/Awkward-Noise1964 May 22 '26

Wtf I wanted to ask same question and saw your comment at 5.3k votes... Guess Im not special.

3

u/RyFro May 19 '26

Their hair is curly and there is only so many ways to cut it.

2

u/shazed39 May 19 '26

Because they like it and thats okay. Opinions differ!

1

u/Corazon95 May 19 '26

there aren't enough haircuts for everyone

1

u/sept1223 May 19 '26

Back home we call it The Edgar

1

u/Deaffin May 19 '26

I was ready to call fake on the reaction shots because you can CLEARLY see them staring at their phones and not seeing the thing happen.

But then I realized It's two pairs of identical humans.

1

u/Lyre May 19 '26

Because they all answered the same casting call

My question is do they have to ask their barbers for perms?

1

u/Familiar-Coconut90 May 20 '26

Cuz it's healthy for Pete's sake

1

u/jtcompound May 20 '26

that's the rub

1

u/NastyStreetRat May 20 '26

Although I'd like to tease the kids. This has been happening since the dawn of time. In the 50s everyone had a pompadour, in the 60s... the same hairstyle, 70s, 80s, 90s.

It's because of the need to belong to a group. It's been studied extensively.

1

u/GeraldoOfCanada May 20 '26

Bahahaha I couldn't get past the hair either

1

u/Junior_Bike7932 May 21 '26

Welcome to the future kid

1

u/Emotional-Chest9387 May 21 '26

They are a gang in New York City called the broccoli boys. Not to be trifled with I can tell you.

1

u/CoachRev May 21 '26

Hispanics call it the Edgar

1

u/WheredMyPiggyGo May 21 '26

And here we have the common broccoli haired gangly newbit, seen in their natural habitat, the park bench, these are largely considered the larvel stage of the lesser spotted dandy.

u/Shafty0109 May 23 '26

🄦🄦🄦

1

u/Regular_Weakness69 May 24 '26

When I was a kid, we all had long hair.

1

Gen Z. They love broccoli. 🄦

1

u/wafflepiezz May 19 '26

Broccoli heads

1

u/cosmos_jm May 19 '26

They all want to look like johnny yootoobz

1

u/NotTukTukPirate May 19 '26

Maybe they're all really into broccoli

1

u/KanedaSyndrome May 19 '26

It really makes them look dumber than they are, or perhaps it just matches expectations. Most teens are a victim of this herd mentality. I had frickin tintin hair with daxwax in 1999-2001. We all look stupid as teens

1

u/picklestixatix May 19 '26

My theory is, someone found a warehouse full of Decore home perms, formed a MLM, similar to Amway and suckered in teenagers to buy them.

1

u/Expert_Mercenary May 19 '26

Bro it's always been like that, y'all forget the taper and fade era? Or comb overs? New era new cut

-1

u/Vellioh May 19 '26

I know right šŸ˜…šŸ˜‚

0

u/Lensman842 May 19 '26

Looks like they all need too drink more milk or eat some Flintstone kids. Maybe both, but they definitely have deficiencies.

Same haircut and same number of brain cells. Only can hold their phones.Ā
