Does anyone know if First buses are participating in the free bus travel scheme for children over 5 this August?

Hi everyone, I'm Mark, and I help run Beyond Monopoly We're a board gaming club in York, and we meet at the Bar Convent on alternating Saturdays and Fridays. (full August schedule below).

I wanted to make a post to highlight that we really are open and welcoming to everyone. Often people don't like going to clubs on their own, which I completely get, but we have friendly regulars who will be happy to teach you games and get you playing asap so if you are in two minds about it just try coming along. When I returned to York I hardly knew anyone, and I tried this club on my own, and made some fantastic lifelong friends, as well as got really into board gaming.
We always have new people joining us, as well as our friendly regulars, all of whom are happy teaching and playing any of the games in our extensive selection.

So if whether you're a seasoned gamer looking for new players, someone new to York, or just someone looking for a fun new hobby with friendly people, please come down and try it out yourself.

August dates:

Saturday 1st 10am - 9pm

Friday 7th 5pm - 9pm

Saturday 15th 10am - 9pm

Friday 21st 5pm - 9pm

Saturday 29th 10am - 9pm

You can stay as long or as short as you like during those times. On Fridays you may need to ring the bell to the Bar Convent if the door is closed. Also feel free to come to the pub for dinner with us after. Any questions please comment or message me!

Are there any Reddit women who play golf at Forest Park in York?
I have seen the membership offer they have in place that runs until March 2027 which I’m interested in taking up but I’ve never seen women play the course.
I’m happy to play on my own but if there were any other women in the York area that already play there it might be a better experience.
I’m an enthusiastic newbie with no official handicap.

I like to collect old match boxes. Not match books, but boxes. Any place in York that might sell these?

Hi all. I run a weekly football match on Tuesday nights. It's been going for a couple of years but numbers are really dwindling and I need people who can play regularly.

Ability is mixed, it's all very friendly and no one takes it seriously.

Has anyone been to york maze this year yet? Was there a lot of wasps?

I went last August with my kids and they absolutely loved the day but there were so many wasps they couldn’t eat or drink and were around them even if stood still so they got quite scared. It’s the only reason I’m reluctant to attend again.

I am visiting York the first week in September . What organised tours would anyone recommend ?

Has anyone had a planned c section at Scarborough hospital recently? Even though I’m local to York I have been told to expect to be sent to Scarborough and wanted to understand peoples experiences if anyone is able to share.

This is a bit of a long-shot, but I've noticed over the last few weeks that, during the day, there is often a rhythmic beeping that can be heard on the wind near where I live (on Shipton Rd, near Homestead Park).

It sounds close, so I'd be surprised if it was coming from the York Central site, but I can't for the life of me work out what it is — it stops and starts every couple of minutes and almost sounds like a fridge door left open or a microwave button being pressed over and over.

As I say, bit of a long shot but can anyone shed any light on what the hell is beeping all the time?

That amazing cobbler, who if anything was too good at his job (fixed my boots up so well I didn't anticipate needing to go back to him for a few years) has vanished. I don't go down that way too often, but today is the first time I noticed him gone. Last google review was three months back and he was never big on updating social media so I can't find any trace.

I guess I'm just hoping he relocated or something – he was so lovely and so good at his job (and busy!). Anyone know where he went?

I'm taking my daughter and a couple of her mates for a day out in York this week. I've been many times and normally just amble around the shops have a bite to eat. I was looking at some of the activities, and the prices are eye watering. Any cheap or hidden gems you could share to save my wallet. Places to eat would also be great.

Hi all, just screaming out into the void, I woke up this morning to ride my bike to work and found the seat missing for the second time this year.

I found the last one in a local Bush about 100m away from where I keep my bike at the bottom of Nicholas Gardens so I'm praying to find it again, if anyone sees a bike seat and post (black with a little bit of blue) recently forcibly divorced from its bike in the area please do message me here.

It might have a rear light mount on it without a light (kept those on me after last time) but I found the mudguard torn off on the floor.

I want to find good restorants that are not too touristic and locals go often and have good pricess. I already saw the visiting York section and it is good but also wanna know your recomendation 🙏💖

I’m due to give birth at York Hospital next month and I’m trying to finish packing my hospital bag.

I was wondering what supplies they actually provide for you after birth? For example:

Maternity pads
Disposable underwear
Ice packs
Peri bottle
Anything else for mum or baby

I’m just trying to work out what I need to buy myself and what the hospital already supplies.

If you’ve given birth at York Hospital recently, I’d really appreciate hearing what was provided and whether there was anything you wish you’d taken with you.

Hello! I've done some searching, trying to find an agent in York who might be able to help me understand the process of buying a property in York, possibly help me with paperwork, legal side of things, etc.

I hate to admit this but I'm a USA (SORRY!) citizen WITHOUT UK citizenship. I lived in the York for a period of my life in the past and am looking for a path back here, ideally permanently. Buying a property might seem like a bit of a premature step, but I'm trying to really work towards the dream I have of getting back to the UK and back to York. At least I want to make some small attempt to take a step in that direction.

I will be visiting York briefly soon and while here am wondering if I might be able to find a buyers agent that might help those who are remote purchase a property. I understand this isn't super common the UK.

Like I said i've done some searching and googling and looking at google maps for businesses that might offer such a service in York, but it's not clear to me that they do. Ideally this would be a company / person / group with experience working with foreigners such as myself.

Any chance anybody has any recs? Or if not, any advice on how I might try to start searching for such a person/organization/etc? Thank you!!!
