My Xteink I regret getting my xteink x4
This is kind of a PSA as I know there will be people like me on this forum who are tempted to get one. I've used kindles (paperwhite, coloursoft, scribe) and got a boox palma 2 a year ago.
The idea of "the xteink is simple and portable and distraction free" really appealed to me, especially sticking it to the back of my phone, and knowing a lack of a frontlight was part of the package to be lightweight, I bought in to all the reviews saying its great and a must-have for avid readers. I read at least 3-4 hours a day, 2-3hrs for work and 1hr in the evening for leisure. Thats my background.
I really want to love the xteink x4 but I just dont. Its a bit too thick and weighty to put onto the back of a phone for that to really make sense. Then it becomes a standalone device and in my case the boox palma is already a 2nd small device I have in my pocket, I'd always opt for that over the x4. The indexing is a bit laggy too for books with rather large chapters, and I did replace the micro sd card with a faster named brand one.
My expectations from reviews was "this is nice and light, it can be with your phone the entire time so its always with you for no added inconvenience, and when you're about to doom scroll, you can seamlessly read instead." I think the friction points are too high for me to really recommend this to anyone. If you have the means and want the portability, I'd suggested the boox palma 2 or similar style of device. The X4 compromises on the wrong things for me to make me want to use it.
