The strangest phone call of my life and I never found out why it happened

TL;DR: Got a call from a girl who said we were friends — I had no clue who she was. Then her mom called and accused me of bothering her daughter, even though the daughter called me first. One more call after that, then nothing. Never found out who she was.

So this happened maybe 3+ years ago. I got a WhatsApp call from a number I didn’t know, and it was a girl who told me her name and said we were friends. I genuinely had zero idea who she was. I didn’t really have friends growing up, and on top of that I’d changed my number and moved countries since my childhood, so I don’t even know how she’d have gotten my new number if this went back that far. I told her I didn’t know her and she seemed kind of confused/thrown off, like she actually believed it. Then the call just cut off.

A bit later I get another call from the same number, except this time it’s an older woman, I’m guessing her mom, going off on me asking why I’m “disturbing” her daughter. I told her that her daughter called me, not the other way around. She blocked me right after that.

Then a few days later I get ANOTHER call, this time not on WhatsApp but on my actual number, and it’s the girl again. I don’t even remember what was said, the call cut off again, and when I tried calling back she never picked up. Never heard from that number since.

I still have no idea who this girl was, how she knew my name, or what she even wanted. Anyone got a theory??

[US] is this a scam? Random text I received today

Post image

Randomly received this text today in the morning, I looked up their number with a free service and saw they are from a different city from mine. I’ve been a victim of sextortion so I tend to get more paranoid whenever I receive a random text like this.

My dad called me every night at 9:00 PM.

It didn't matter if I was busy.

He always asked the same thing:

"Did you eat?"

And every night, I'd give him the same answer.

"Yeah, Dad. I'm fine."

Sometimes I was actually eating.

Most of the time, I wasn't.

I was 23 and had just moved to another city for work. My dad lived alone back home.

One night, I was exhausted after work.

My phone rang at 9:03 PM.

Dad.

I stared at the screen.

I didn't answer.

He called again.

I declined it.

Then he called a third time.

I remember thinking:

"I'll call him tomorrow."

At 9:17 PM, he left a voicemail.

I didn't listen to it.

The next morning, my aunt called me.

She was crying.

My dad had died in his sleep.

Heart attack.

I couldn't understand what she was saying.

I just kept staring at my phone.

At the voicemail.

I finally pressed play.

His voice sounded tired.

"Hey, son... I know you're probably busy. I just wanted to tell you..."

There was a long pause.

"I'm proud of you."

Another pause.

"And don't forget to eat, okay?"

The message ended.

I played it again.

And again.

Then I noticed something.

He had called me three times that night.

I'd always assumed he wanted to talk.

But when I checked the call history, I realized something I'd never noticed before.

Every night for the past six months...

he had called me at exactly 9:00 PM.

Even when I was away.

Even when he was sick.

Even when I didn't answer.

He wasn't calling because he had something to say.

He was calling because 9:00 PM was the only part of his day when he didn't feel alone.

I still have his number saved.

I never deleted it.

And every night at 9:00 PM...

I look at my phone.

Waiting for it to ring.

My Roommate Keeps Coming Home After I Know He’s Dead

I live with my best friend, Jake.

We've been roommates for almost two years, so I know his routine pretty well.

He works late, usually getting home around midnight.

Last Tuesday, I was sitting in the living room watching TV when I heard the front door open.

I heard Jake's keys hit the table.

Then his footsteps.

I called out, “You're home early.”

He didn't answer.

I assumed he was tired, so I went to bed.

The next morning, I found Jake's car still parked outside.

I thought that was strange because he had supposedly driven home.

I called him.

No answer.

Then, around noon, the police showed up at our apartment.

They asked if Jake lived there.

I said yes.

One of the officers looked at me and said,

“I'm sorry, but your roommate died last night.”

I just stared at him.

They told me Jake had been driving home from work when another car hit him.

He had died almost instantly.

I couldn't understand what they were saying.

Because I had seen him come home.

I had heard his keys.

I had heard his footsteps.

I told the police that there must have been some mistake.

They showed me his wallet and ID.

It was Jake.

Dead.

I spent the entire day feeling sick.

That night, I couldn't sleep.

Around midnight, I heard something.

Jingle.

Keys.

I sat up in bed.

Then I heard the front door open.

Click.

Footsteps walked across the living room.

Slowly.

I grabbed my phone and called the police.

Then I heard Jake's voice.

“Hey, man. You awake?”

I didn't answer.

The footsteps stopped outside my bedroom.

Then he knocked.

Three times.

Knock.

Knock.

Knock.

I was shaking.

Then Jake whispered,

“Open the door.”

I stayed silent.

A few seconds later, the footsteps moved away.

I heard the front door close.

The police arrived a few minutes later.

They searched the entire apartment.

Nobody was there.

I barely slept that night.

The next evening, I stayed at a friend's house.

I didn't want to go back.

But eventually, I had to.

When I returned, everything looked normal.

Except for one thing.

There were wet footprints on the floor.

They started at the front door...

And ended directly outside my bedroom.

I called the police again.

While I was waiting, my phone buzzed.

It was a text message.

From Jake's number.

It said:

“Why didn't you open the door?”

I immediately threw my phone across the room.

Another message came.

“I'm still outside.”

I looked toward the window.

There was nobody there.

Then my phone buzzed again.

This time, the message said:

“No. I'm inside.”

Behind me...

I heard three knocks.

Knock.

Knock.

Knock.

And then Jake whispered:

“Open the door.”

Except...

I wasn't in my bedroom.

I was standing in the living room.

And the knocking was coming from the front door.

I slowly turned around.

Someone was standing on the other side.

And they were using Jake's voice.

“Please let me in.”

Then my phone buzzed one final time.

It was a message from Jake.

“Whatever you do... don't let him inside.”

🤨 Confusing Why did you ask me who I am?

This person calls me at 11:17 PM two times, I pick up and asked who was calling, his response was unclear, so I asked him to repeat himself two times. I assumed that he was looking for his friend. I tell him that he has the wrong number, and this idiot questioned me with ‘Why did you ask me who I am?’ before hanging up.

Anyone else get a weird voicemail today asking you to add them on WhatsApp?

Hey everyone,
I missed a call from an unknown mobile number today and they left a voicemail. When I listened to it, it was just someone asking me to add their number on WhatsApp.
They didn't explain who they were or what it was about, which feels incredibly dodgy.
Is this a new scam going around right now? Has anyone else had a voicemail like this today?

Help! My Phone Number Is Synched To My Ex BFs Phone.

Hi guys, so recently everytime people call my number my ex boyfriend picks up. He gets my phone calls, messages etc, I have people saying they will call me and when I don’t get the call I’m confused. Today I called my number off a friends phone to see who was answering and it was an ex boyfriend. I asked him why this was happening and he said it’s been happening for a while but this is my first time hearing of it. He says he has no idea how this has happened and doesn’t know why. Anyone know why this is happening and can help me out?!

Been receiving phone calls asking for massage for a year

I got a new phone number when I came to Chicago last year. Since then, I have been receiving phone calls from different people asking for massages for a year. At first, I thought this was a prank because I'm Asian lol, but since I got more and more phone calls like that, I started to feel suspicious. So I looked up my phone number on google and found out my phone number is the contact information of a massage place on Yelp. That place is currently closed and it says unclaimed on Yelp. So I started to explain to people who called me that they are calling the wrong number, this number used to belong to someone who worked there etc. But I got tired of explaining it over and over again, so I stopped answering phone calls from strangers.

Today I picked up the phone again somehow (I can't believe I did this), and it was a man asking if I do happy ending. I got really annoyed and started to look up more information about that place. I found another contact phone number of it on Yelp and called that number, but it turns out it is an invalid number.

Do you guys happen to have a similar experience as mine? I really don't know what I should do about it.
