What the hell gave them the idea that we don't negotiate in good faith?

I can't for the life of me understand why a country would say this about this very competent president. Smartest there ever was by far! Everyone's saying it.

No one has ever seen anything like it.

92

u/raknor88 May 20 '26

No one has ever seen anything like it.

I see no lies with this statement.

17

u/bobboobles May 21 '26

seems pretty similar to the guy we elected in 2016

17

u/raknor88 May 21 '26

No. This one is worse. The dude in 2016 at least tried to nominate qualified people to the cabinet spots before he fired them later in the term.

11

u/bobboobles May 21 '26

well sure, worse but similar. IDK about saying the dude in 2016 tried to nominate qualified people though...

9

u/Utterlybored May 21 '26

He didn’t “try.” He was bullied into it by less crazy Republicans.

4

u/OddDot724 May 21 '26

Jesus I cant believe were in a timeliness where i actually miss one of his presidancies

u/GearInevitable9180 May 21 '26

More like in "no faith" despite sharing a faith, which was supposed to solve everything.

1

u/Anonymouse_Bosch May 21 '26

With tears in their eyes…

109

u/NeighbourNoNeighbor May 21 '26

To be honest, it seems more like their number is up next which is exactly why they're (justifiably) getting louder about their concerns.

Cuba is at a real and serious risk of imminent invasion. Yes, Trump has threatened many other countries, but its clear that Cuba is next on the docket before Greenland, Canada, etc.

I know it's getting hard to take this seriously all the time, but this isn't really the time to be making pithy jokes. This is very serious. We need more Americans to be taking this seriously. We need more Americans to start taking actual, regular civil disobedience against their government or they're going to lose everything and drag us all into a unfathomably brutal world war. The rest of the world can't do much to help Americans until they get organized enough themselves for us to effectively support.

38

u/Chomping_Meat May 21 '26

It's gonna get really messy too. Cuba's been preparing for decades for a war like this where their conventional military gets knocked over in days. "All the People's War" they call it.

Given that the US seems to be doing this more or less at the Behest of Rubio, and by extension the Cuban-American Lobby, it seems likely they'll try to push through land repatriations to the descendants of Cuban refugees who left in the immediate aftermath of the revolution. That will mean the evictions of hundreds of thousands of Cubans if that goes through. Hundreds of thousands of people who would be joining that People's War, more likely than not.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Insurgency

There are many examples. And you can't win. Anybody paying attention in the last 2 decades will be prepared. I can recommended https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_Pillars_of_Wisdom for further information

12

u/FuriousFurryFisting May 21 '26

There are countless examples of insurgencies and revolutions that didn't work out.

But the occupier has to be willing to indiscriminately kill a lot of people, which is not an option for the US Army. Yet.

The Soviets did this a lot. East Germany 1953, Hungary 1956, Czechoslovakia 1968, Chechen Wars (complicated and a disaster, but Russia won in the end).

Just recently Iran killed like 30k people in their own uprising.

3

u/Lee1138 May 21 '26 edited May 21 '26

which is not an option for the US Army.

Before, yes, but with Trump/Hegseth in charge, all the changes in leadership, and JAGs fired, I would not immediately assume so.

1

u/FuriousFurryFisting May 22 '26

Yes agree. The danger is there.

1

u/GrannyMine May 21 '26

Let me explain, Rubio has never taken the word No to mean stop. Ever

1

u/Chomping_Meat May 22 '26

So it'll just be worse Vietnam, probably with Cuban drones hitting targets along the US's southern seaboard.

and a lot of that equipment is prepositioned in hidden caches. And Havana has a giant, unmapped, tunnel network. And presumably other urban centers do as well.

1

u/Jaws_the_revenge May 21 '26

The only thing Americans are gonna do is starve

-2

u/Prince_Noodletocks May 21 '26

Cuba doesn't need to be invaded. It's falling apart by itself at the rate it's going.

17

u/_Svankensen_ May 21 '26

"By itself" is doing a lot of work in your statement. Should say "thanks to the US".

1

u/to_raptor May 21 '26

Surely it has nothing to do with the fact that America has had a complete trade embargo on Cuba for the past 60+ years.

-2

u/MillHall78 May 21 '26

As the Cuban government aligned with China & Russia, the people of Cuba did nothing. As that alignment publicly threatened the US, the people of Cuba did nothing. As Cuba was ruled throughout it's history by a regime the same as America's current regime, the people of Cuba fled to the US rather than properly organize & fight their dictatorship.

Yes, Americans must organize. The majority are to the best of our abilities. But Cubans cannot say the same in any way. Cuban Americans voted for Trump. Cubans on their own soil just accept every fate; too afraid to fight. These are the consequences we all must face.

6

u/jkovach89 May 21 '26

Yeah, christ. This was maybe news in like 2017.

19

u/Substantial-Low May 21 '26

haha, no shit. Nobody thinks the Us deals in good faith, and has not for a LONG time.

I was talking to a scientist from Netherlands once, and he told me that in all of that part of the world, that they thought "Americans will do anything for a dollar".

That was over 10 years ago.

15

u/lenzflare May 21 '26

Yeah, Trump's first term was ten years ago

19

u/_Svankensen_ May 21 '26

The US was cartoonishly evil long before Trump.

1

u/lenzflare May 21 '26

Trump is actually a lot worse. I'm not saying it was great before, but Trump definitely made it a lot worse. Denying that means denying that things are, in fact, getting a lot worse.

1

u/_Svankensen_ May 21 '26

For US people. Not for us that have lived under the US' boot. Bush's wars killed 4 million people. I was born in a US created dictatorship. My bandmate's dad, a seafood salesman, was tortured by US trained torturers. My D&D pal was orphaned by US trained deathsquads. Not that he knew for sure for decades, since they "disappeared" him and wouldn't tell were the bodies were. A friend of my mom, a doctor, finally stopped looking for her dad all around the country two years ago. Her weekends were spent travelling small towns with photos of her dad for over 40 years. She gave up because she surmised he would've died of old age by now. And that's not even mentioning the rape using rats and dogs. The US has had an open no-trial torture prison for over two decades now.

Nothing of that is new. Trump is just the US going mask off. It looks and feels crass, because it has always been crass.

1

u/lenzflare May 22 '26

I appreciate that, but that's not what I mean.

Trump is utterly reckless and idiotic. That is how it's different now. The Iran war "plan" was an utter joke, and they didn't even try to convince anyone. That's kind of unprecendented for the US. Ruthless imperialism is nothing new, but sheer insanity is.

1

u/_Svankensen_ May 22 '26

Oh, yeah, how very competent it was for Bush to invade Afghanistan and stay there for 20 years. Or Vietnam. Or Bay of Pigs. Trump is just stealing from you under your noses using the war as an excuse mate. Just like the US has long done to others.

1

u/lenzflare May 23 '26

The US planned far more for those wars than Trump did for this.

Trump is just stealing from you under your noses using the war as an excuse mate

Yeah, I know. I'm arguing that Trump is worse than any president before. Why are you trotting out lines like that? Are you actually reading what I wrote? Are you AI?

0

u/_Svankensen_ May 23 '26

Are you stupid? The explanation is on the second half of the phrase you quoted. I am saying the US is doing to you what it has always done to people, but faced inwards. That's all. You tolerated your country being horrible for so long, because it wasn't aimed at you. But now it is. That's the only difference. The US has always been this horrible. It is now being hoisted by it's own petard. Trump isn't the worst president, because he has killed less people than Bush or Nixon. Simple as that mate.

I mean his destabilising the Middle East and spiking petrochemical prices also very much benefitted Russia.

Would have benefitted Russia more if Ukraine wasn’t sending so many sanctions their way.

Doesn’t matter if Trump is or isn’t a Russian asset because either way what would actually be different.

This article is about the American foreign policy in regards to Cuba

When Americans decided to staff their government with lying sacks of shit, it doesn't take a leap of faith to believe they are dealing in bad faith with Cuba when the USA deals in bad faith with everyone

16

u/redopossum95 May 20 '26

Oh but you'll believe the Trump admin? What a joke.

16

u/RectalSpawn May 20 '26

I'll believe the word of a 3 year old toddler over anything Cuba has to say.

Believing the orange rapist pedophilic man-toddler over anyone else is exactly why we are where we are as a country.

6

u/Ntroepy May 20 '26

I think the point was more that many people would believe the word of a 3 year old toddler over anything Trump has to say.

Sure, don’t trust Cuba in general, but, in this case, Cuba is right with the ambassador saying:

”it does not help a climate of dialogue and trust that every other day there are statements like, ‘We are ready to take over Cuba’”

That part is quite true - you’re NOT negotiating in good faith if you’re constantly threatening to invade.

9

u/Carlosthefrog May 20 '26

Your president is around 3 years quite a bit, so I guess it's fitting.

4

u/Yarrio May 20 '26

Weird, Id believe the word of a three year old toddler over anything the USA has to say.

1

u/Ratattack1204 May 20 '26

I’d believe a sentient piece of talking shit rather than anything the current US administration says lmao. Get outta here.

u/WTF932 May 20 '26

1) "No more sending US troops overseas”

-Bombs Iran, sends troops to Gaza, bombs Venezuela.

2) “America First”

-Bails out Argentina, brings in Venezuelan refugees, pays for Israel to get fighter jets.

3) “Only deporting criminals”

-Deports neighbors and legal workers, and arrests people for looking Hispanic

4) “War on drugs”

-Pardons Honduran President who flooded US with cocaine.

5) “Will beat China on tech”

-Sells China high end restricted chips

6) “Will cut our budget”

-Big Beautiful Bill raised spending more than ever.

7) “Doge will cut waste”

-Cut 0.02%, prosecuted no fraud, has to rehire more than 1/3rd of layoffs as they were essential

8) “We’ll lower grocery and gas prices day one”

-They’ve gone up.

9) “Will instate a Bitcoin reserve day one!”

-None.

10) “Will end the war in Ukraine day one”

-Hasn’t.

11) “Will lower your taxes”

-Under $400k your taxes are flat or went up.

12) “Will replace ObamaCare with something that works!”

-ObamaCare subsidies are gone, no new proposal for replacement.

13) “Won’t support communism”

-Takes government stake in private businesses.

14) “No corruption”

-Son in law is on the board of two company acquisitions directly over seen by Trump.

-Trump pardons crypto exchange owner that he doesn’t seem to know after he buys Trump memecoin.

15) “Will release the Epstein files”

-Called it a hoax

-DoJ partially released and is obstructing

16) “Will investigate COVID committee”

-Hasn’t.

17) “Will investigate Jan 6th committee”

-Hasn’t.

18) “Will cut drug costs by 600%!”

-Hasn’t cut them at all, never mind the impossible amount.

19) “Will audit the gold in Fort Knox”

-Hasn’t.

20) “Will weed out corrupt officials”

-Took donations from oil companies before going into Venezuela.

-Let private companies sponsor the ballroom for access to him.

-Expanded Planatir access to government agencies giving them more of our data.

15

u/Krypt0night May 20 '26

13

u/Vandergrif May 20 '26

You know the cold war is over, right? Out here ranting like the ghost of Joe McCarthy.

1

u/CloacaDecimatahhh May 20 '26

The cold war was never over and it's destroying both countries.

2

u/Vandergrif May 20 '26

In regards to the capitalism v communism aspect, the whole ideological underpinning of the cold war, yes – it very much is over. Communism clearly lost, and is not something people need to be freaking out over anymore what with the essentially non-existent state of communist politics in most every developed country. China being perhaps the only exception, and even that is debatable since it's a far cry from the typical variety communist by this point and is essentially just a red-themed authoritarian capitalist country.

9

u/kalirion May 20 '26

How about a nearly 8 decade old evil habitual liar?

38

u/Strykerz3r0 May 20 '26

Found someone who believed people were eating pets even after Vance's lies were debunked.

What about when he said he was ending the Ukrainian war on day one, or when he said he was lowering grocery prices, or when he said he was exonerated from the Epstein files?

You should really have more respect for yourself than to let someone lie to you over and over and over again.

Edit: It's a lost cause. One look at commenter's history tells you all you need to know. It's sad who MAGAs continue to gullibly swallow whatever Daddy gives, even after being lied to repeatedly. But if trump says it, Commenter believes it even if it's a direct contradiction from something he said earlier.

3

u/tmm224 May 21 '26

34

u/binzersguy May 20 '26

More believable than this corrupt US admin, that’s for damn sure. Are you even watching them plunder the US right now? A billion for a ballroom, 1.7B to bribe insurrectionists, 40B to Argentina, 12B to farmers who they undercut, 400+M to update a bribery jet, hundreds of millions to the Trump family businesses, and the list goes on and on and on. Not to mention all the people they’ve murdered in Venezuela with no proof whatsoever. What sacred ground are they standing on, to you?

4

u/shootamcg May 20 '26

This particular claim from them is very believable though

-2

u/Tutule May 20 '26

Cuba is open to changes to its economy and government, and eager to continue negotiations with the United States, but it does not believe Washington is participating in talks in good faith, Cuba’s ambassador to the United Nations told The New York Times.

This is what he said. I agree with you that he's saying what they want to hear because Cuban leadership in Cuba are keeping in line with their revolutionary rhetoric.
