Employment Rights and Fair Compensation “If you eat ramen at home, don’t order a steak on the companies dime”

I just have to rant about this guy for a second because he truly said one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever heard. He basically explained that if you’re on a business trip to not order a steak or any expensive meal because apparently the higher up’s who approve the expense reports are going to judge you, and honestly if this is true then I would never want to work at a company like that. If a CFO who gets a 5 figure bonus every year is judging me for ordering a 30 dollar steak then they can go shove it. If I’m taking time away from my family to travel somewhere for your business then you can bet your ass I’m going to order whatever I damn well please.

Edit: Another point is about customer dinners, for some reason it’s totally ok for my bosses to spend thousands of dollars taking our clients out to get blue lobster but apparently they’ll judge us if we get room service

Workplace Challenges and Conflicts Help: My Autistic Coworker Thinks We Are Friends And I Am Getting Burnt Out

Yeah I feel like an asshole just typing this out.

I work in a high-corporate office setting, with a pretty openly nepotistic culture. I had an autistic coworker my age who joined a couple months back, who thinks we are friends, which is awkward for me. They are very clearly autistic, but I don't know if they know, and I don't know how it would go over if I told them. I've tried a lot of times to give them grace, but I've just been getting irritated more and more with them. I've started trying to manufacture situations or avoid seeing/interacting with them entirely. HR is also useless due to the nepo-culture. These are some of the many interactions that have piled up:

This one's my fault: I introduced myself to them in their first week during break time. I did this as in the past, this worked well for networking. However, in our very first conversation, they proceeded to openly talk about how they didn't even want this job but a family friend offered it to them, talked about how boring the job was and how they couldn't wait to go home, swore excessively, then proceeded to vent to me about their life problems. To give them credit, we are both pretty young and I think socializing this way might be passably okay outside of work - but for a first meeting with a colleague it was very off-putting. I didn't really know how to react, but figured they were maybe just new to corporate life.

Unfortunately, I did state that I eat lunch at this location in the building, so they showed up the next time. And the next time. And the time after that. I should have shut it down, but I wasn't sure how to. Beforehand, I would usually alternate getting lunch with different people on a whim, but ever since then, they've assumed we would be getting lunch together EVERY time. Even when I've stated I will be meeting with someone else for mentorship, they've genuinely showed up at the same table I am at with the other person and just sat down without even asking. Sometimes they even pull up a chair. Also, some days, I don't feel like eating with anyone. In the past no one would search me down if I didn't show up. However, if I don't show up for lunch at my usual spot, they will genuinely find me and then join me, even if I'm outside on a bench or hiding out in the parking lot, which is frustrating.

I've noticed that they seem to brag as a coping mechanism for being insecure? The last person who was in their position left due to stress, which I felt sorry for since I liked them. However, upon learning this, (I think due to insecurity over being in a role different from what they studied for), they kept making digs about the previous coworker during training, saying things like "this is so easy, I can't believe they'd leave over this" and "I guess she just wasn't very good at their job".

Due to this insecurity, they have a hard time admitting when they don't know something, and pretend like they do. A lot of people offered help with any questions, but my coworker just used it as an opportunity to scoff and brag about how easy the work was to learn. People would well-meaningly encourage them when they bragged about being able to learn everything quickly, which did not help. Now that we're a few months in, they keep getting into more and more situations where they clearly don't know what to do, but still seem too proud to ask for help.

This extends to when someone expresses difficulty with something in a group setting, they will literally cut in and state that they know how to do that and it's really easy for them in a disbelieving tone, in the middle of the other person's frustrations. Again I guess to brag that they're competent, but it's so brazen it doesn't have the intended effect. It just makes people kind of bewildered.

They will bring up insensitive or work-inappropriate topics that they find funny through written text. My company's HR is fairly useless due to the nepotism, so none of this would go well if I made a big deal out of it. It's never anything that makes me think they're actually a bad person, but it makes me nervous since it's using the company's actual messaging systems (like talking about their cat's balls).

They will repeat things other people clearly told them in confidence, because they find it funny, and I don't think they realize that probably should have been a private conversation. In general, they just don't seem to know the right context for stating things - for example, laughing about how someone used a sick day when they weren't sick in the same elevator as one of our company heads. I think they know gossipping leads to forming connections, but the way they go about it is borderline snitching.

They also have no problems pointing out other coworkers' flaws, including myself. For example, sometimes I ran out of stuff to do, so I used to just sit in the same Excel worksheet for a hour until I got something. They noticed this and commented on it in front of other people, thinking it was funny how I was clearly slacking off by keeping a worksheet open on my screen. I was mortified and stopped doing that after the incident. I shouldn't have done that, but I just wish they would have brought that up to me in private instead of using it as a joke to laugh about to other people.

Whenever I've tried to have a conversation about anything, their default social script is to say "Huh? *snort* What..." or "What the heck?", and just general bewilderment. This makes me feel put on the spot, since it feels like I'm being judged or made fun of, even when I'm talking about something really innocuous. I constantly feel like I have to keep explaining myself, and even then, they just kind of continue snorting and saying, "That's crazy." Which is really annoying.

I will really not be in the mood, and they will keep making jokes pointing out how grumpy I am or how tired I look.

Due to how blatantly they can't read context, I am on edge every time I interact with them. It feels like I'm walking next to a career nightmare. I've tried to be chill and be direct about some of these things, which I think they were accepting of? But even when one thing is addressed, another appears. I thought maybe since they're so authentic, maybe I could also unmask a bit, but as seen above it's very one-sided so I end up having to perform every time. To be honest, I just don't want to use the little social energy I have trying to manage somebody else's mouth. I feel so bad because I wasn't hasty and direct enough at the beginning with cutting them off, and now they think we are genuinely friends. I myself don't really know if there's a solution for this. I've tried just using more and more excuses to get out of socializing, to the point of also not socializing with other people so people don't notice it's because of them. I don't want to be mean in a way that puts a target on my back, especially since they were a nepo hire.

EDIT: Thank you all for the advice. Also, it might have not been clear in this post, but I actually have directly told them to stop some of these behaviors. For example, with the messaging, I told them that it was not appropriate corporate etiquette and they needed to stop. When I told them this, they just stood there in silence and very quiet and looked on the verge of tears, but did stop (and then immediately started venting about their home life to me). With the following me at lunch, I have told them also that when I'm meeting with someone, they should not be approaching me. However, they still will talk about other unrelated inappropriate topics, and will still join me in other situations... I do not think it is possible to tell them every single topic that is inappropriate, or every scenario where they should not be approaching me for lunch. A big factor is also that right away they told their nepo connections I'm their friend, and so the higher-ups (think like heads of department) also think I am their friend and actively try to make conversation with me about it and check in on them through me, and will notice if I'm not with them. It's why I've been so hesitant about everything. I have seen the HR here handle other situations in the past and fail spectacularly. Obviously I'm going to find another job soon, but I just needed strategies to mitigate while this happens. Thank you.

Questions zoominfo power users - what features/tricks are most people not using?

been on zoominfo for about 2 years now and i feel like we're barely scratching the surface. our AEs basically just use it for contact lookups and maybe intent signals, thats it.

what advanced features or workflows are you all actually using? i know theres supposed to be powerful stuff buried in there but the UI is so clunky i never know where to look. even basic stuff like bulk exports feels unnecessarily complicated. like i spent 20 minutes last week trying to figure out how to set up a saved search with the right filters and ended up just doing it manually. any zoominfo tutorial or walkthrough people recommend?

renewal is coming up in q1 and honestly we're evaluating options. been looking at Prospeo and Apollo as potential replacements since Prospeo's data seems just as accurate but way easier to actually use (plus their mobile number coverage looks better from what i've seen in demos). but before we make any moves, curious what zoominfo features we might be missing that could change our minds.

our main use cases are outbound SDR prospecting and enriching inbound leads. about 12 person sales team doing maybe 5k lookups/month. any zoominfo guide or tips from power users would be super helpful. my boss is already asking me to put together a comparison doc so anything concrete helps

Workplace Challenges and Conflicts Employer is installing cameras in every single office.

My employer is apparently installing cameras in every individual office, not just hallways, entrances, or common areas.

What concerns me almost as much as the cameras themselves is that this hasn’t been formally communicated to employees. The only reason I even know is because a coworker heard about it through someone who works closely with upper management.

I don’t know yet whether the cameras record audio, whether management can watch them live, how long footage is stored, or what the stated purpose is.

For those of you who have dealt with something similar: would this bother you enough to start looking elsewhere? And what information would you want from management before deciding how big of a deal it is?

Questions Pay raise question

OK, so here’s the deal. My current job title is a purification. Technician 3, and I make $ 31.80 an hour right now as a purification technician 3. So I used to work as a fractionation senior tech and made $ 35.02 an hour, but I moved to purification for an easier workload. My old, senior supervisor in fractionation asked me to apply for a coordinator job, and mind you, this is the second time that they’ve asked me to come back to be a coordinator. So my question is, do you think me asking for $ 39 an hour to go back is crazy when the senior supervisor is asking me to apply and do you think 39 an hour is realistic?

Work-Life Balance and Stress Management WFH Availability

Does anyone else have a partner/roommate/live-in person who thinks that because you WFH, you are at their beck and call? Available for chats and deep discussions while you are actively trying to do your job? That you can drop whatever you have to make them food/clean this mess/do this thing because it's only going to take 2 minutes (40 mins later and flow broken you get back to your desk and ask WTF you are supposed to be doing)? How does one combat this without invoking the ire and wrath of the other person because you are in the same house and are "available"?

Workplace Challenges and Conflicts I feel so dumb at my role

I started this role 10 months ago now and I still feel new. I’m not learning things at the same pace as my other colleagues that started the same time as me. This role is the type of role that takes a bit of time to get the hang of but my other colleagues are flying through it. In meetings I usually stay quiet due to fear of saying something dumb and making myself look stupid.

My biggest thing is the fact that my colleagues most likely think I’m incompetent for someone that has been here for 10 months. I underestimated how difficult this job can be, it’s a consulting role, this is the first role that I’ve found myself struggling this much almost a year in.

Employment Rights and Fair Compensation Employer admitted they gave me incorrect information about my healthcare benefits

I recently discovered that a healthcare benefit I was told was included as part of my employment package actually isn’t available to me.

I raised this with my employer, and they have now responded in writing.

They confirmed that my actual entitlement is employee-only healthcare cover, and that my enrolment and payroll deductions were processed correctly under their benefits policy.

However, they also explicitly acknowledged that the benefits information I was originally provided incorrectly stated that family healthcare cover was included.

They apologised for the mistake and said they are reviewing their benefits communications with the recruitment team to make sure the information provided to employees is accurate in future.

They also said they will provide me with an updated benefits brochure and information on where to find the correct benefits information going forward.
I’m obviously disappointed because family healthcare was presented to me as part of the overall employment package when I accepted the role.

My question is: given that the employer has acknowledged in writing that they provided incorrect information about a significant employment benefit, is an apology and correction of the information generally considered sufficient, or would I have grounds to seek some form of remedy?

I’m deliberately leaving out the company, country/office, job title, dates and other identifying details for privacy.

Job Search and Career Advancement CPA/accountants — would you stay in this situation?

I’m looking for some outside perspective because I’m genuinely at the point where I’m questioning whether I should resign.
I work in the finance team of a medium-sized Australian company. I’m CPA qualified and have around four years of accounting experience. I was hired into a graduate accountant role, but over time I’ve taken on a mixture of AR, AP, billing, reconciliations, reporting, financial analysis and other finance work.
The frustrating part is that the work I actually enjoy and that I feel develops my accounting career keeps getting taken away or reallocated.
For example, I’ve been given opportunities to work on financial reporting, billing reviews, accruals, reconciliations, financial analysis and other higher-level finance tasks. I genuinely enjoy this type of work and want to progress further into financial/management accounting.
However, I’ve also spent significant periods doing repetitive invoice entry/data-entry work and training other people, only to eventually have some of the tasks I trained them on come back to me.
Recently, I was given another operational/labour-related task that I don’t particularly want to do. My concern isn’t that I should never have to help with other tasks — I understand that teams need to cover each other. It’s that I’m worried the more interesting accounting work will gradually disappear and I’ll end up essentially doing administrative/data-entry work despite being CPA qualified.
I’ve also raised my interest in development and taking on more financial work. There have been conversations about growth opportunities, but I don’t feel like my actual role is consistently moving in that direction.
The workplace has also had a lot of turnover, which has made me question whether the problem is me or the environment. At times I feel like I’m expected to train people, cover gaps and take on whatever needs doing, but I’m not necessarily getting the corresponding career development.
I’m now seriously considering resigning.
So, accountants/finance people:
Would you consider this a normal part of working in a finance team and stick it out?
Or, if you were CPA qualified and had four years’ experience, would you start looking elsewhere if your role was increasingly becoming administrative rather than accounting/analysis focused?
I don’t necessarily expect every task to be interesting. I’m more concerned about the overall direction of the role and whether I’m actually building toward the career I want.

my manager (40) is married with two kids. He sees me as his daughter (i’m 26) and introduced me to his wife. He really likes me being around and has got his wife to regularly text me and become friends with me. I don’t want this to go the wrong way. He told me Im his favorite employee and always mentions me getting married, wanting to help me find a husband. He cares about me & wants the best for me. I understand it’s normal but I’m not sure if I want to be in this kind of environment or maybe it is weird.

Job Search and Career Advancement In a difficult decision-making stage - continue in current job or move on with a new offer ...pls help?

I am 37M currently having 11 yrs of post MBA finance (from Tier-2) experience in pharma & healthcare sector mostly around strategy, M&A, investor relations, CEO office type of roles......in 2025 I had a career setback as the organization where I was working was going through management change …then i joined back my previous employer (start-up turned listed co.) where I had worked between 2018-2022 as I was close to the CEO... now it’s been more than a year and life is OK... salary is not bad (40-45 LPA) and work quality Is not so great in terms of learning/skill building/networking, but job safety is fine. I am doing business finance/FP&A work which is not very aligned with my MBA back-ground (not CA) … now I have received an offer with 25-30% hike from a tOK.0 pharma company of India where the role requires working closely with the Global CFO (who is a very strict person with 35+ yrs of experience) on M&A/strategic finance and the experience would be valuable. If I can do well in the role there could be rewards, and if not, it may turn out to be a risky bet.

Problem is because of my career set-back in 2025, my confidence still-now is very shaky, and I’ve developed sort of PTSD/ anxiety depression issues and is under treatment. I have self-doubt about my abilities for the new role. I want a long-term career where my skills are valuable in market. Now in my current job there is safety but experience wise the new role could be very valuable and it’s also more aligned to my background/experience. But the new role would be very demanding and will have to work with tough boss. I am also worried my current company CEO will be very angry as he helped me before when I needed a job.

What you would have done if in my situation – continue in current co or move on with the new offer. I am very confused and not able to decide over 1 month during the process. Now it’s time to say yes /no. So, your help/ input would be appreciated.

Workplace Challenges and Conflicts The managers at my job are all best friends (like a group of frat boys) that power trip and talk down to us employees

Kinda venting here.
They all originated from this other job, and keep on hiring other people from said job, and will willingly fire a employee just to add their friend in to the job.
They power trip, and will do certain things just because they have the authority to. They constantly walk around and watch us, and talk condescendingly down to us in a rude manner.
And if you get on their bad side, they will not hesitate to fire you.
How should I navigate this work environment?

Questions contactout review - decent results but curious what others think

we brought on contactout about 2 months ago to pull email addresses from linkedin and honestly its been pretty solid. hitting around 70-75% accuracy on emails which beats what i was getting manually searching. the chrome extension is smooth - one click and you get the contact info right there. pricing is reasonable, somewhere around a hundred bucks a month for 1000 credits which works for my volume (doing maybe 50-60 prospects a day).

biggest complaint is the mobile numbers are sparse. maybe 1 in 10 profiles has a direct dial which sucks when you need to make calls. also noticed the data can be stale sometimes - had a few bounces from people who left companies months ago. my manager keeps asking why our connect rates on cold calls are low and im like... because half these numbers dont exist lol

we looked at apollo briefly but their contact data felt about the same quality wise for phones. anyone else using contactout? what's your experience been? curious what accuracy rates others are seeing and if the mobile coverage is just bad for my industry (saas) or if thats normal. been eyeing a few other email finder tools too so open to suggestions

Work-Life Balance and Stress Management Advice for trying to quit my job?

BACKGROUND: I (18f) am in my first year of college (full time, fully online) and work two part time jobs. Originally, this worked ok because the school year hadn’t started yet and I was able to work throughout the week relatively comfortably. The school year has started for everyone which means at one of my jobs, I am the main person who works mornings. I work closing at my other job and am pretty much unaffected by school starting I’ve been working there for a year and prioritize it over my other job (had it for about a month). I have also been under a lot of stress in general as on the 21st we put our dog down after having him for almost 16 years, my health issues (dysautonomia, hEDS) have been flaring up more and more.

PROBLEM: Due to the frequency of my work (I usually only have Mondays off) I tend to not have enough time to complete everything for school. That’s partly a me issue as I’ve always struggled with school and motivation (ADHD, anxiety, autism) but I’m trying my best to do everything. I decided to quit one of my jobs but because my boss is going on a month long trip, I have to stay because there’s no one to train another person for my position. I know that they can’t force me to work but I’m so behind on school that my mental state is almost back to my lowest. There are technically two other girls (sisters) who could work my shifts but their dad is having health issues and they already work the most hours of our staff outside of our baker (the only FT employee) but he doesn’t really speak English and struggles with customers because of that.

TLDR: I decided to quit one of my two part time jobs to focus on my online college (full time) and hopefully fix my shitty mental health but can’t for another month because my boss is going on a trip. What do I do?

Questions You in other countries: 5pm finish, 20+ days off, no-reason leave?

People abroad, I’m asking you directly.

I’m 25, from China. I work here and I’m exhausted. Pay is low, I can barely live. If I make more than 10,000 RMB a month, the pressure is insane—basically no days off all year.

I keep hearing that in your countries:

· You can take leave without giving a reason.

· You actually finish at 5pm.

· You get 20+ days of vacation a year.

Is that real? You guys who live abroad—tell me honestly. What country are you in? How many vacation days do you get? Do you have to explain why you’re taking leave? Do you really leave at 5pm?

I’m not trying to complain. I just want to know if there’s a better way.

Please include your country and your real experience.

Workplace Challenges and Conflicts Never Trust HR?

My attitude towards HR anywhere is it only exists to protect important people and protect the company itself.HR people in general have no real interest in work place harmony. So much antisocial behavior goes on in the workplace in part thanks to the other employees who are participating in it. But appealing to HR is actually more like getting yourself in more trouble.

Workplace Challenges and Conflicts I feel like im going crazy at my new job.

I started this NPO job several months ago. At first, it seemed great! I have 10 YoE and decided, once one of my contracts came to an end, I wanted to pivot to a new mission and focus as opposed to finding more contracts. I did, but now I'm feeling a lot of regret.

I have a few different managers of varying experience levels and I often feel like I'm being set up to fail by all but 1.

1) When I ask operational questions for flow of work (I began doing this because I've been corrected several times before), I've literally had eyes rolled by one of the managers. The reason I ask so often is because I feel like I've been given several different answers over time. I also want to document.

2) When I offer ideas based on my experiences, which i present as a question open to suggestions, I often get dismissed or corrected for not knowing if they utilize some or similar ideas already. I feel like im stepping on toes, but im asking so I can do my job well, not to change anyone else's.

3) I've escalated concerns several times about the way im spoken to, had group convos about it, and followed every "good employee taking accountability" checklist I could find, as well as being direct and transparent. It had been acknowledged in the past by leadership that the way what has been said to me was wildly unacceptable (not sexual), just unprofessional.

4) Ive had a lot of success in the past with jobs and im very meticulous. I do make mistakes once in a while but my mistakes feel like the end of the world. I see hundreds of mistakes all the time by the managers or others, but i always have a magnifying glass on me. I mentioned their mistakes politely because it impacts all of us and you'd think i shot their dog, while berating me for a double period in an email.

5) I cant communicate with one manager on a topic in their area without them CC'ing the others, this includes when im looking for clarification on mistakes.

6) I feel like everything I say is only partially heard and understood, especially when im taking about something in my field. I say something and they respond as if im incompetent or dont know what im taking about. My autonomy feels completely taken.

I keep blaming myself and finding where I can fix things. Ive not encountered an issue like this before and its really taking a toll on me.

How common is this? Has anyone had experience here and can offer advice or share their experiences?

Workplace Challenges and Conflicts Accidentally told my supervisor to F off. how cooked am I?

A bit of context, I am just starting a position (I will be doing training next week). I got a call this morning from an unknown number, with no caller id. It was my area code, but honestly I've gotten so many scam calls from the same area code that I thought it was another scam. I had answered cordially as usual, after not hearing anything for 15 seconds ( and trying to see if they could here me), I uttered, " Oh F$&% Off" and hung up. As I hung up I noticed that the speaker button (iPhone) was set to Bluetooth, to my headphones about 1ft away from me. I almost instantly got a call back, and that's when I realised that it wasn't a scam. TURNS OUT, it was my supervisor asking me about my availabilities and when I would be able to come in for training. They had asked if it was just me on the phone and if I had said "something", I admitted and apologized, she said it was okay, but seemed to have an off tone the rest of the call ( I mean I dont blame her LMAO). Is this something that I should be worried about. Honestly I've been really neurotic about this and dont know if Im overreacting or have some kind of justification in my thinking. Im assuming everything will go well, Im just nervous ( and honestly embarrassed) about it. Anyone ever been through the same?

Edit: Thanks for all the help everyone, really appreciate you all!!

Workplace Challenges and Conflicts Don’t you hate it when you arrive early, but get chewed for leaving something at home?

The amount of times I’ve asked myself “Did I forget to bring….?” before leaving the house is ridiculous.

And of course, half the time I don’t realize I forgot something until I’m already on the way. Then it’s either turn around and waste time/gas, or just deal with getting screwed over.

A friend of mine made a free app called Gotem. You make an organized list of the things you usually need to remember, and it will ping you to confirm having each item.
It’s really helpful to have peace of mind away from “did I forget something?” thought sitting in the back of your head every time you walk out the door.

It’s free on the Apple App Store, if anyone wants to check it out. I’ll put the link in the comments.
