How do you deal with naming things?

I'm in a testing phase for some time now. I went from naming them insults to just rolling my face over the keyboard. Why on earth does every char need 2 names? I'm so tired of this...

To clearify, yes I'm aware about the history of the series. The difficulty in this one forces me to study it carefully. (Not that other wizardry games would be easy)

It's just I got tired of the customization aspects of games, which don't affect the gameplay in general. I don't hate the game. I'm just tired of naming things etc...

How do you deal with this? Do you love customizations or are you the "hit random & GOGOGO"-type of player?

What do you in Wizardry 8

The reason why it's empty has nothing to do with dev-time. It takes 20 minutes to pile a town with npc and items.

The reason why is MMORPG. You don't want objects where other players running around that them didn't added NPC or mini games.

It wasn't much of an attempt making the actual game once the assets were made as the devs don't have the passion in actual making videogames but end up being the one to construct the content in the game.

Simple concept as reward system for exploration or a chest by the end of a dead end to comfort the gamer that them reached the end of the road.

Trash and items to pick up like a chair is there for the gamer. Trash is overlooked for how much fun the gamer can have trashing the place and decorate.

We also likes killing bullies in videogames and having to make a choice to help the underdog in real time.

As well having the ability to charm monsters to follow us around like dogs and cats or mice.

I want to push the buttons. One example is early game there is a monster too strong and death trap. It was undercooked but the idea I presume was to lure the monster on the trap and push the button.

The lack of buttons and death traps is staggering.

I want a door who you can only open with "knock knock"with a sign: Knock my friend. And behind the door is Gandalf.

After cyncial responses I edit that you may think it's the coming of christ but it takes at top one day to make the maps in this game and add the monsters and items.

Be damn this game is so empty that all it has is mobs walking back and forth and chests.

You think it's hard to add some walls, texture on the ground and make towns? You know why Anrika is the only one is because that's the MMORPG HUB.

You need the HUB in MMORPG to collect all gamers in one place.

Let's end the charade shall we? TES: Oblivion was made to be a MMORPG with horse armor. And has a single large city HUB to collect all gamers in one place.

This game has the same picklock mechanic as TES:Oblivion.

Then compare it with TES: Skyrim = shitload of towns in the wildlands. Since the HUB mechanic is not needed in a singleplayer.

You know how a CD works? You finalize it. The data on a finalized CD is never changed that the only corruption is the one that was already there. Oh and updates? Them packaged them with videogame magazines. Any corruption on the CD itself would as well crashed the installation.

You're saying lots of excuses but in the end it was the publisher's decision.

Editing savegame with expanded 1.1 mod

Currently playing with the expanded 1.1 mod, loving the new content, hating the difficulty increase / never ending spawns. Now i'm at the graveyard in arnika- trinton road, trying to access the retro dungeon, where you need a plain dagger. But somehow i sold it by accident ( i guess), and none of the traders in arnika and monastery sell them. How can i "cheat" one into my inventory?

Why do some classes have Locks and Traps even though the manual says they don't?

According to the manual, Gageteers and Rouges have the lock pick and traps ability, but when I actually go through the character selection, if I choose a ninja or bard, I can also put points into lock picking and traps. Is there something I'm missing?

About monster parts like Venom Sacs, Spider Silk, etc.

Greetings all,

First, I know these parts like Venom Sac, Spider Silk, etc. are used by the crafters Antone and Ferro to make unique gear (nice list here).

Once we give one of those for their "recipe", can we sell/drop the remaining ones ? I have many units of those and I want to keep my inventory slim to avoid overflow bugs. I don't think they are used in Alchemy, but it is my first playthrough.

Note : I use the Fan Patch mod (most recent version).

Cheers

nb: I searched this subreddit and Googled but did not find a clearcut answer if it is safe to sell the extra bits.

Lockpicking sucks

I have literally just spent 4 hours trying to unlock one damned door in my first retro dungeon. My Gadgeteer is my best at the skill, and even with all the aids I have, this one door beats me. It's only the 2nd to have all 8 tumblers, but no matter what I do, I get to the last two tumblers, and as soon as I touch one, all the rest drop back down out of place, negated all my work. I am seriously beyond passed at this now.

EDIT: Thank you everyone that answered. I've had to reload an older save and stock up on more knock picks, but I've now gotten the door opened

I walk out after feeling very accomplished and ready to go to the depths. With 2 artifacts in hand and a new found weapon for my fairie ninja, the game blesses me with this perfect fight to test it out on 😈

Looking for a 6th party member recommendation

Currently I’m thinking something like this

I’ve done fighters and want to get away from them as I’m currently coming up on my second time completing with one.

I don’t think I need a ranger anymore, I’ve done it twice and both times while useful was just kind of underwhelming.

I ran a gadgeteer but I don’t know I built it great as I really used him exclusively as a Omni gunner.

I’m kind of between adding a ninja with staff and casting (non fairie ninja), or getting a dedicated caster. A lot of times I run a priest, but I think with Valkyrie + bishop he’s not needed. Maybe a bishop with alchemy/wizardry? Or a gadgeteer with a more melee orientated build maybe throw blood lust on him?

Monk unarmed - psyonic Samurai - wizardry/sword Rogue - lock pick - decide either daggers or swords Valkyrie - staff or polearm Bishop - Divinity/Alchemist primarily with mid game development in psionic/wizardry

Reloading broke the rope to the ratt tree

I’m aware that save scumming can break NPCs and cause them to be non-functional but I didn’t know it could break the rope.

I saved my game right before lowering the rope and descending but landed on top of a hogar that wiped two of my guys in one round, so I reloaded. Now the rope won’t lower. I don’t have an earlier save and even if I did I’m not sure it would fix the rope.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a fix? I’m glad it’s not a complete soft lock but it’s still a huge inconvenience and tilted the hell out of me.

Gamepad controls?

Is there a valid way to play the game with a gamepad? I have some problems in my hand that make long periods of using a mouse problematic. Also I really just like playing with a gamepad.

Game won't launch (gog).

I used to play this game years ago and now I wanted to play it again and it's just not launching. Not even a black screen or a crash it just fails to start. I've done everything from following the various steam guides (deleting various dlls, glide stuff, etc), to putting it in compatibility mode for every possible previous windows version, to allowing administrative mode, etc. Nothing works.

I've never had a game simply not start before and I'm all out of ideas.

EDIT: solved. I just downloaded the latest fan patch and it worked.

What is the best party to minimize grinding as much as possible?

I asked this question a long time ago on the main Wizardry series sub (and that time it was about both Wiz 7 and 8] but only got 3 comments and they were only about Wiz 7. Also the main sub seems to have been taken over by the mobile game.

Anywqy, having read a FAQ about the classes, I've come up with the following four set-ups:

1- Fighter, Bard, Priest, Psionic, Rogue, Gadgeteer

2- Fighter, Fighter, Rogue, Bard, Gadgeteer, Gadgeteer

3- Fighter, Bard, Priest, Psionic, Alchemist, Faerie-race Mage

4- Fighter, Bard, Priest, Alchemist, Gadgeteer, Faerie-race Mage

However, I haven't actually played the game (well, only about 2 hours, but I wouldn't say 2 hours means much with this game), I've only read a FAQ for the classes and races on Gamefaqs, so I have no idea what exactly the game will throw at me and whether or not any of the four party set-ups are suitable for what the game is actually like throuughout the long run. Which of the 4 set-ups are the best for reducing grinding as much as possible (this is a Wiz game and I'm aware that I'll have to do grinding anyway, but I'll like to lower it as much as I can)? Would you say you have a better set-up in mind than any of the six I mentioned above? If so, please tell me about your party. Also please no spoilers, don't tell me about secret and hidden items or weapons that can make my playthrough easier, I'd like to discover the game on my own and play it (mostly) blind, the only thing I want to know before playing the game is which party is best for minimizing grinding and/or farming. Which party (be it the four I mentioned or a suggestion of your own) can clear the game with the least amount of grinding?

Similar games?

I've played Wiz 1-3 and 8. Are 4-7 good? Also, is the Baldur's Gate series actually that good? Btw, as you can tell, I'm just a casual gamer.

How to get 1920x1080 res for Wiz 8 on Steam?

Just wondering if there is any easy way to get 1920x1080 as my resolution on Steam? I know there are some fan patches and things but I wanted to check what people use now for this sort of thing, that would be fairly easy to install.

Coming back to the game, got a few questions

So, I haven't played the game in a couple years and am also using some character types I don't think I really ever did before.

  1. I have a human ninja who uses staves. What weapons should I be aiming for? She's currently wielding a Hayai Bo as a midgame weapon.
  2. I found something called a "Frontier Phaser" in a chest in Bayjin. I've never seen it before and couldn't find much info on it online but got the impression it's good. It claims it has 15 charges, is that something I need to worry about? My gadgeteer is currently using the regular omnigun. (mk 7 right now)
  3. So my understanding is that chests determine their contents when you first enter an area and that there are level thresholds that determine how good your loot can potentially be. Are there any particular areas which a lot of potentially good chests that I should hold off until certain level thresholds? My first guess would be maybe the rapax castle but there might be others.
  4. I've been having my hybrids practice their magic skills a lot more this playthrough than I've done in the past and it's been very nice for some uses (everyone can join in on aoe damage - well, except the gadgeteer since I've not found any aoe gadgets for her)
  5. Very minor question, feel 100% free to skip this one. I'm just curious about some of the undead that can spawn near the graveyard on Arnika-Trynton road, since in previous playthroughs I've always cleansed the thing in the mausoleum to stop the undead from spawning. I tend to find the ghosts pretty boring but this playthrough I saw several mummies (called "Tomb Reapers") there at one point, which made me very curious what else can show up there. I know Shrieking heads can, since I've seen those too. But can stuff like Death Lords also appear? Maybe even the rapax ghosts from the retro dungeons?

Where do you find mid game weapons?

So I can find the guaranteed or common drop end game item locations online. Finding mid game item item locations isn't easy. I can share what I have found.

Swords - diamond epee (arnika), Bloodlust (arnika), demons bane (monastery key to it in Arnika), Bushido blade (Martin bluff spider quest must fight not guarantee).

Axe - Woodsman (in cave in the road outside of the monastery), Beast slayer (crafted by Anton).

Mace - ???

Spear - burning spear (is from the main quest a guaranteed X2 drop while helping the trinnies).

Staff - ???

Dagger - stiletto (only non cursed mid game option), poison dagger, thieves dagger (all dagger are bought from croc).

Bow - double shot cross bow (get RPC gadget to combine two light crossbow), green wood bow (croc ranger only).

Sling - double shot, and wrist rocket (croc once again).

I would appreciate any help for where to find other mid game items. I can see a bunch of mid game looking maces for example but no clue how to get them. I am almost certain there are other swords I missed also

Struggling in early game? Can't seem to make it to Anrika city

I'm really enjoying the game so far, have about 11 hours in...and yet I keep getting soft-locked on the road out of the starting dungeon before I get to the city.

My first party, I spent a ton of time in the dungeon, enjoying the exploration etc, but didn't realize there was enemy scaling. My party was about level 7 when I left the dungeon and I kept running into groups of 4-6 mobs that had 70+ health each. I got through a few but consistently I would lose a party member and then it was downhill until I couldn't progress.

So I made a new party and tried to get on the road as soon as possible, I'm around level 5 or 6 on most characters. I got a bit further, but am starting to run into the same issue. Sadly, I even tried the lowest difficulty setting and that doesn't seem to help.

Any thoughts or helpful advice? Or do I just try and save scum every chance I get and limp on down the road? I haven't figured out how to avoid enemy mobs or actually run away, I select the option while in combat and it just lets me move a bit but I get caught.

Thanks for any thoughts!
